Good thing the Canucks know Marky's tendencies. I see lots of VAN goals
-
Speaking of toughness, adding Hamonic should be a nice boost, in addition to Gaud and Jake, who seem a bit feisty this year. Big Mac too. And always nice to have a giant (Myers) on D. Losing Tanev and Stecher certainly wasn't a big loss physically. Then in early May adding Podkolzin!
-
Thrilled with the way the roster is shaping up, better than I thought it would. Adding Hoglander up front and Hamonic, Juolevi, Schmidt and possibly Rathbone on D. And then a previous Jennings, Vezina and Cup winner in goal? Wow. The Canucks will have a very good team this year.

One of the best I've seen.

I don't think Hoglander is going back to Sweden And then possibly getting Podkolzin on May 1st? Damn, this team could be very exciting down the stretch to the playoffs and beyond.
-
It almost seems like there are too many young guys fighting for spots, guys that have been trying for years, and maybe deserving, but might not get a shot on this team. They have some good depth. I remember when Brisebois was pretty much the only good Dman prospect, but now it seems he may not even play for the Canucks. I'm assuming Sautner and Teves will be Utica lifers as well. Nice that they have the depth though. I really want to see Hoglander make this team out of camp.

Don Taylor just tying to show off how knowledgeable he thinks he is

This is interesting to note, the Canucks bottom 6 struggled in the playoffs and was a weak area. They need a better bottom 6, more contribution. I'd be fine with Jake in the bottom 6, with MacEwen, Motte, Gaudette, Sutter, and maybe a guy like Michaelis, Lockwood as a spare.

Green mentioned having to make some tough decisions on some of the vets, who could he be referring to? I think Loui is an obvious choice to be waived, but would they also waive Beagle and/or Roussel? Do they keep Benn on the roster, and ease in Rathbone, Rafferty and Chatfield over time? I like the idea of getting some of the young guys in, like Juolevi and Hoglander, but too many rookies in the lineup and they become vulnerable. I think Sutter stays, as he's more versatile than Beagle and Roussel.

Remember how stoic and quiet/calm the Sedins were, and how Edler still is. Maybe it's the Swedish thing. But Schmidt seems to be the opposite of them, total extrovert, loud, a little obnoxious, but I'm sure he's bringing a lot of levity to the room. Seems like a great team guy. There needs to be some positivity, if they're having fun and gelling, all the better for the Canucks. And, Schmidt can play the game, he's a very good mobile Dman, vocal, engaged and he can contribute. This should take some pressure off Hughes to provide all of the offence from the backend. Can't wait to start watching games again next week.

[Proposal] Opening Night Rosters
Nucker 67 replied to Bad_BOI_pete's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I don't think they hang the two rookies out to dry in the 3rd pairing (Juolevi-Rathbone), I have doubts that Jack makes the team out of camp. As for Hoglander, he's making it difficult for the coaching staff by the sounds of it, maybe a little surprised he's showing so well for a smallish 20-year old Euro. I think some might've also been concerned about Petey's small frame when he arrived too. Hogz is going to be fun to watch and I think he makes the team. -
Seems like a real fun guy to be around, but I wonder if the older vets are looking at Schmidt like :"shut up already". Watching Benn and Edler's reactions to his yapping on the bench. I happen to love seeing that stuff, not taking everything so seriously, probably good for the young guys too. Hoglander looks like the real deal.

I was flipping channels earlier, landed on TSN and they were discussing all of the Canadian teams and their big moves. Of course they went on about how great Thornton is practicing with Marner in TOR, but when it got to CGY, they showed the projected 2021 depth chart, and they have Leivo on the top line. We can beat those guys They spent very little time talking about the Canucks, only to mention the positive impact Schmidt seems to be having on his new team mates.

[Signing] Canucks sign Carson Focht

great to see the young talent progress -
just wanna make sure, some guys are asking lol

Can't wait to see Podkolzin in the blue and green. He brings a different skill set than Pettersson, Hoglander and Boeser. I see him more of a Horvat type of player, a bull with speed, lots of heart, captain material (not that he'll ever be the Canucks captain) The USA guys, they've been paying together for years. But even those players will report to the teams that drafted them, and then we'll see the players they become. Jack was sure underwhelming in NJ, just sayin'. Is Caufield going to score 50 goals a season for the Habs? Doubtful. Is Zegras going to suddenly make the Ducks a playoff team? Don't make me laugh. Just examples, but I can see a player like Podkolzin having a big impact in VAN and adding to the great young talent they've already got.
-
Podz' last shift or two he really tried to step it up and get some offence generated, like a good captain would, but it was like he was playing with players who just weren't on his level. I can't wait to see him in VAN, hopefully this spring. #91?

Out - Tanev, Fantenberg, Stecher In - Schmidt, Juolevi, Hamonic*, Rathbone IMO, they got a lot better on D Schmidt seems like such a character, team guy, and like he'd fit right in, in VAN. The Canucks really bonded well in the bubble during the playoffs, brought them all closer I'm sure, and I can see Schmidt adding even more cohesion to the team. Makes me wonder, teams like VAN, VGK, TB, etc. who were in the bubble the longest, as opposed to LA, ANA, OTT, etc. who weren't even invited to the bubble - I would think that the longer teams were in the bubble, the bigger the advantage this season? Those non-playoff teams haven't played NHL hockey in almost a year, they never had those bonding experiences, battling for the Cup without any distractions or "help" from the fans. That experience may have toughened up some teams as well, playing world class hockey while missing their families. Well done Benning, signing a former VGK, who went even further than the Canucks. He's going to be a beauty. Maybe VAN has the upper hand on some teams? I think they're really going to battle for each other this year, with a mantra "enough is enough, let's win a Cup".

Hughes - Myers Edler - Schmidt Juolevi - Hamonic Rafferty Chatfield Rathbone D is lookin' real good my guess Benn gets traded or sent to "Utica"?
-
Quick! Get away! Coach Green isn't wearing his mask properly!
-
hmm, Baer didn't look great on that drill. Lost the puck battle in the corner and allowed Lind to take it to the net.
-
They seem to be spending a bit of tie with Hoglander, giving him lots of looks, and he's fitting in from what it looks like. I would really love to see him make the team right out of camp. Rathbone has a tougher task to make the team with Rafferty and Chatfield more ready, (and possibly Hamonic) and I think Jack will start in Utica. I really like to hear that Juolevi is doing well so far, looking forward to him being a regular. Sounds like Sven is struggling a bit, this training camp is huge for him, to prove he can still play in the NHL.

I wonder if any 2021 merchandise will be sold (E.g. 2021 CANUCKS - NORTH DIVISION, or something like that). Could be a good collectable one day seeing as there won't be a North division after this season. I got me one of those grey Canucks Playoffs hoodies the players wore in the bubble last summer. Such a strange playoffs. Excited for this season, even though it's not the full 82. Teams won't ease into the season like before, all of the games will matter. As recent as last week, I was a bit concerned that the Canucks wouldn't have enough offence and the D lost too much (Tanev, Stecher, Fantenberg), but with the addition of Schmidt, Hamonic getting a PTO, and seeing Juolevi and Rathbone play well, the D could be even better. On offence, Jake seems to have finally gotten it. Thank you Tyler Myers. Virtanen will be battling for a Top 6 spot, and the there's Hoglander as well. Boeser needs to stay healthy.
