I wonder how many "Bride needs a Helmet" jokes Gaud's team mates have slung at him? lol
Anyway...
I look at who they lost: Markstrom, Tanev, Stecher, Leivo and Toffoli. It looks like a lot, 5 NHL players. But I'd take quality over quantity any day.
Holtby is a Cup winner, and I trust him more than Marky. I liked Markstrom when he was here, but he really benefitted from Ian Clark. Now Holtby will benefit.
Tanev playing with Hughes was a revelation to his game. For once he played a full season (shortened season), and steered clear of injury. But can he stay healthy in CGY? HIs age and injury history makes me think he will decline there. Getting Schmidt makes our D better instantly, more speed, more offense. And if they can sign Hamonic, the Canucks could be a lot better (and tougher) defensively.
Stecher is a good #7-8 Dman. Juolevi will be an upgrade IMO.
We never really got to know Leivo and Toffoli. They were pretty good while they were here, but I'm more excited about a fit Jake Virtanen showing up at camp, and possibly Hoglander and/or Lind stealing a spot, or even Baerstchi possibly making a comeback. Canucks will be okay, can't wait.
