LA is building a monster: Byfield Turcotte Andersson Vilardi Kupari Bjornfot Kaliyev Madden
-
Benning signed MacEwen, Motte and Holtby. Great. But then lost 5 players (Markstrom, Tanev, Toffoli, Stecher and Domingue) What the heck is going on? Is there a huge trade about to happen, or is Jim really going to allow the young guys in Utica play?

[Signing] Canadiens sign Tyler Toffoli

The Titanic comes to mind -
Agree, like some mass exodus from the current management. I get the feeling they were disrespected, due to Benning spending all of his time chasing a mirage, aka OEL. I'm sure Benning had intentions of eventually negotiating and possibly re-signing Tanev, but Chris saw the writing on the wall. Benning has probably been low-balling on offers ($ and term), because there isn't much cap and they have a plan, but these loyal vets may be saying "F you, I know I'm worth more than that after what I've given". It's a tough business, I wouldn't want Benning's stress these days.

I wonder why it's so quiet from the Canucks. Other teams have reacted like it's a mad rush to build their teams rosters. CGY will be better, EDM will be better. VGK will win the Cup if they sign Pietrangelo. Is Benning working on a big trade? There just seems there's a lot to do to improve the D, maybe he's trying to bring in a real good Dman? I sure hope so.

[Report] 26 players elect salary arbitration
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So, with Jake going arbitration, do the Canucks now have to wait to see what he's entitled to, then re-sign him, and then trade him as part of a package for a Dman? This could take a while. -
[Signing] Red Wings sign Vladislav Namestnikov
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not freaking out, I won't be losing my job over this. Disappointed though. Yeah, Benning will probably pick up a couple of okay Dmen, so they don't have to rely on Rafferty and Chatfield. There's just no money, because Benning tied a lot of that up with the Eriksson, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle, Ferland and Spooner contracts. -

[Signing] Maple Leafs sign Zach Bogosian
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Seems Benning is only willing to acquire a Dman in a trade, and a part of that trade needs to include Eriksson or Sutter. Not an easy task, especially this year. Teams are trying to unload cap and they're signing players cheaper than normal. I'm not sure there are teams that can afford to take on cap, or how many actual trading partners Jim has. Really don't want to look back at last year an an anomaly, and go back to losing and waiting for Draft Day. So, 2 more years of pain and then we're good? -

Well, I guess a positive is we can look forward to the Draft in 2021. VAN will have all their picks, and possibly a high 1st. -

Thinking if Benning makes a trade, it'll be a right shot D. Maybe a player who makes a little too much, or isn't a fit anymore. This may allow Benning to add Eriksson or Sutter in the trade. Stralman (34) - $5.5 x 2 years Subban (31) - $9 x 2 years Boychuk (36) - $6 x 2 years or better yet Severson (26) - $4.2 x 3 years Dumba (26) - $6 x 3 years Manson (28) - $4.1 x 2 years -

He's got to be working on a big trade, right? -
[Signing] Blue Jackets sign Mikko Koivu
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Looks like MIN could use some Cs. after losing Staal and Koivu. Who do they have now? Eriksson-Ek and some other guys? I know MIN wanted Boeser, but is there any appetite for Gaudette+ for Dumba? -
[Discussion]Offer sheets Sergachev and Cernak and ?
Nucker 67 replied to Lazurus's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Offer what, Jim's broke -
Yes, you're right, but it's certainly no fun. Teasing of playoff magic last season and now next year they'll probably struggle against divisional rivals. Not happy about this. I also wonder about the current players. They want to win, they got a taste. Then their GM loses key players and doesn't replace them, not sure that would go over well with the players or the owners. But you are correct that they will probably try to get some of the young guys (MacEwen, Lind, Juolevi, Rafferty and Chatfield) a full time NHL job. Good luck boys.

[Speculation] Canucks interested in Tyson Barrie

well, forget that lol EDM and CGY are getting better. Geez, when they said the VAN window is open now, I didn't think it would close so soon -

If they sign Barrie, then they better not re-sign Stecher. VAN needs to be tougher to play against than that. I'm okay with getting Barrie at a reasonable cost, and then a cheap 3rd pairing Dman with snarl. -
- Couldn't get a 1st or 2nd in the Draft - Couldn't trade Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle or Roussel - Lost the team MVP (Markstrom), Hughes' partner (Tanev), hometown boy Stecher, and possibly Toffoli, Fantenberg and Leivo Is Benning trying to get fired?
-
Kind of annoyed at Tanev on this. I thought he bled blue and green, but I also understand he wanted more term than what Benning was able to offer. Well, Tanev's last season was a bit of an anomaly, playing with Hughes. First season I can remember him not being injured. I'm guessing that will change back in CGY, and he'll spend more time on the IR. It's too bad, I thought he would be a lifer like the Sedins and Edler.

[Signing] Flames sign Christopher Tanev
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He wouldn't... -
Racking my brain trying to figure out who Benning may be going after. Maybe he's still trying to make a deal to bring in a RD. Hate to say it, but PK Subban make $9 per (next 2 years), and I'm sure NJ wouldn't mind that cap hit off the books. Could be a way to rid the Eriksson and Sutter contracts. Or maybe he circles back to Dumba. I think Benning would like to improve the offense from the D and I wonder if that's why Tanev hasn't been re-signed yet. Is Benning going after a bigger fish?
