[Signing] Maple Leafs re-sign Denis Malgin
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
who? good work du*bass -
Could be why it's taking a while, Benning turning the screws, trying to get the best deal possible for VAN
-
7 years left, and he's 29. This means he would be 36 when his contract expires and probably near the end of his career. Good timing, as 36 isn't that old for a Swedish Dman (Lidstrom was 42, Kronwall was 39), and he's had a history of being healthy. Edler is 34, and even though he only has one year left on his contract, I can see him re-signing and playing another 2-3 years as well.

I still recall older Sharks-Canucks games, where Dillon was a physical force, punishing hits. I think he struggled in WAS a bit, not knowing anyone on the team when he joined. I think in VAN he would fit right in, familiar with the surroundings, grew up a fan. If we back off on OEL, and re-sign Tanev: Hughes - Myers Edler - Tanev Dillon - Rafferty Juolevi - Benn Chatfield It saves a bit of money, but is it enough to contend? What concerns me about OEL is the term of his contract. It has albatross written all over it.

no worries, I just meant with UFAs they can be greedy this time of year, but I think Dillon genuinely wants to play here and wouldn't ask for a big raise or anything. Now this has me reconsidering OEL lol Maybe they should just re-sign Tanev and then Dillon? Those two would still be cheaper than OEL.

Thinking there are picks involved with this trade as well guess to ARI - Eriksson, Sutter, Juolevi, 2nd (2021), 2nd (2022) to VAN - Ekman-Larsson (25% retained)
-
Really awesome. From a kernel to food - instantly

Taking Eriksson and Sutter wouldn't hurt the Yotes that badly. They're both serviceable forwards who can still play the game, and Sutter is done after this coming season, Eriksson in 2 years (2 x $2.5). I don't think the holdup is ARI taking on these guys, but more what ARI wants in addition. They might want Juolevi or Rathbone and Benning might be bucking that. I'd really like to get OEL, trying to make it work financially isn't my job, they'll figure it out. Not sure they would be abkle to re-sign Tanev though, and that's cocnerning as he's a good right-shot D. Letting him just walk is kind of terrible asset management. Canucks will not win a Cup with Stecher in the mix, and especially playing in the top pairing when injuries hit. Benn lacks emotion, but he's still got physicality in him and could be a useful #6/7. The Top 4 could be: OEL, Hughes, Edler, Myers. That's pretty darned good. Give Rafferty, Juolevi or Chatfield and chance in the bottom pairing.

Maybe VAN can trade for OEL. He does great here, VAN wins a Cup, and then Benning trades OEL to TOR for a 1st+, with them thinking the same could happen to them. But it won't.

Golden Knights unveil third jersey
Nucker 67 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
dang, that's ugly It's like they said: how can we look a little more like 70s' disco lol -
Rumour has it that the Canucks have tabled an offer to ARI. Unknown which players/picks were offered.

OEL - Hughes Edler - Myers Dillon - Rafferty Benn Chatfield

If VAN trades for OEL, then I would think they let Tanev walk, because they wouldn't be able to afford him. And in order to get OEL, they would probably have to trade Juolevi + Juolevi and Tanev together are much cheaper than OEL. So, is it worth it to lose Tanev and Juolevi + for OEL?
-
Edler has 1 year left and is 34. He might get an extension of a couple of years, maybe around $5. Re-sign Fantenberg cheap, he was good in the playoffs. Give Rafferty his shot, and he's cheap. Hughes is a top pairing Dman and can play the right side, upside, downside, inside, outside, he's all over the place. I think a OEL - Hughes top pairing would be great. If Tanev agrees to $4.5 or under $5, he and Edler would form a great 2nd pairing. Assuming Juolevi and ?? are gone. Ekman-Larsson ($8.25) - Hughes ($10) Edler ($5-6) - Tanev - $4.5-5) Fantenberg ($1.5) - Rafferty (under $1) Benn ($2) Chatfield (under $1) Seems doable to me

Eriksson - 2 years Roussel - 2 years Beagle - 2 years Sutter - 1 year Baertschi - 1 year Benn - 1 year These might appear to be terrible contracts, but there's little term left, so it's not some huge albatross. If there's a trade with ARI for OEL, who still has 7 years on his contract, taking a couple of these back shouldn't be much of an issue. If I were to guess, Benning could have an issue parting ways with Juolevi or Rathbone in this transaction.

Looking at OEL's stats, they're good, but not great. But he's been a 40 point player on a really bad team his entire career. Let him loose on a really good up and coming team like the Canucks, he could really change the Canucks D. Just turned 29, perfect age. His contract will be tough in 5+ years, but if this move brings a Cup banner to Rogers Arena, who cares?

I'm not sure VAN will be sending such a package to ARI, why would they? OEL wants out of ARI, and he wants to go to VAN. Their GM doesn't have a lot of leverage. And because OEL is so expensive, ARI will have to take cap back. Eriksson, Sutter and Juolevi OEL ARI deals with the rest of Loui and Brandon's' contracts (2 years), but they get a top LD prospect to replace OEL for years. Whether Juolevi will be anywhere as good, is yet to be seen. I think Olli will become a very good Dman.
