  1. I don't understand why they never kept Jake in the Top 6. Green tried him there for a bit, then threw him back in the bottom 6. I think a part of Jake's problem with his game is lacking confidence, but it's no wonder because he keeps getting demoted, then promoted, then demoted again. Maybe he's scared to make a mistake, for fear he won't get back in Green's good books (the Top 6), so he plays a safe game, waiting for his chance. Green put Eriksson with Bo and Tanner instead of Jake. Is this because Loui is so much better defensively than Jake? Okay, maybe he's a little better in that area, but is that saying Bo and Tanner are terrible defensively and need a defensive specialist on their line? Or is Green kissing a** and playing Loui because he makes $6 million? I agree that Jake should've done a lot more in his first playoffs, but I'd hate for him to go somewhere else and get that opportunity in the top 6, and succeed.
  2. Benning isn't going UFA, unless it's Markstrom, Tanev, Fantenberg, Leivo and/or Toffoli. As far as RFAs, I think Benning has tough decisions and the Canucks lose Stecher and Virtanen. If they re-sign Gaudette, Motte and MacEwen, this is what they've got: Miller - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - ?? Roussel - Sutter - Gaudette Motte - Beagle - MacEwen Eriksson Edler - Myers Hughes - ?? Benn - ?? Juolevi Demko ??
  3. If the Canucks are going to let Markstrom walk, then Demko is the starter. I believe Fleury's issue in Vegas is that he isn't the starter. I can maybe see a scenario: to VGK - Koskinen and ?? to EDM - Fleury EDM lets Smith walk and they sign a cheap UFA backup, who will hardly see time because the Oilers will rely so heavily on Fleury to win, they'll run the old man into the ground.
  4. Sneak attack, Canucks came out of nowhere and they're just getting started. To win I think the team needs to have an all star game changer at Forward, D and Goal. The Canucks have that in Pettersson, Hughes and Markstrom. But the team also needs a great supporting cast. The Canucks have some players like Miller, Motte, Edler, Tanev, and Myers, but they need a little help, with Sutter, Eriksson and Roussel taking up roster spots. I'm unsure where Virtanen and Gaudette stand these days. They'll either be a big part of the Canucks future, or traded. The young guys on the team, and up and coming high end prospects, the Canucks should be competitive for years, as long as Benning surrounds them with quality supporting players. F - Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, Lind, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Focht D - Hughes, Juolevi, Rafferty, Rathbone, Woo G - Demko, DiPietro
  5. It certainly helps that Toffoli loves playing for VAN and wants to stay. He could probably fetch $6+ on the open market, but I think he'll sign for $5 to stay here. He sees the team forming into a championship contender and wants to be a part of it. Having Pearson as his team mate again is a bonus.
  6. Pregame moment of unity, and there were boos. WTF? Can't help but be a little disgusted that one player could have a half a billion dollar contract. At that price, Mahomes better not lose, ever. Looking forward to watching local boy (WR) Claypool (Steelers) on Monday
  7. Miller - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Toffoli Leivo - (?? via trade) - Gaudette Motte - Beagle - MacEwen Eriksson Edler - Myers Hughes - Tanev Fantenberg - Rafferty Juolevi Markstrom Demko OUT - Sutter, Virtanen, Roussel, Stecher, Benn
  8. Interesting thought someone mentioned, that with Markstrom and Tanev now UFAs, other teams may make them big offers, possibly enticing them to chase the money. Especially if Benning is going to try and sign them at a minimum, because there's just not enough cap. My first thought was TOR. They need both, a good veteran top 4 right-shot Dman, and a goalie who can steal games all season and in the playoffs. TOR probably can't afford them, but who knows, maybe they clear cap by trading one of their stars.
  9. This is probably the cost. Boeser is a bit bigger, but has some unlucky injury history. Boeser makes slightly more, but will be due for a big raise in 2 years. Konechny makes less and becomes a UFA in 4 years. Boeser was drafted at #23 and Konechny at #24. Konechny has scored 24 goals three years straight, while Boeser scored a career high 29 goals in his rookie season and was nominated for the Calder. They're 3 weeks apart in age. Which player would VAN be better with? IMO, make the trade. Brock is due to make $7.5mm in a couple of years when he becomes an RFA. Konechny will be $2mm cheaper and who knows, maybe Bo will raise his game even higher playing on a line with his cousin.
  10. Benning did mention possibly having to move some younger players, and there would be difficult decisions. I'm guessing that Eriksson and Sutter will be moved, somehow. But in order to do that the Canucks have to add sweeteners. I have a feeling Benning isn't overly interested in draft picks and the players for this team moving forward are already in the system. Players like Podkolzin, Hoglander, Focht, Lind and Rathbone. I think he'd like to ty and re-sign Markstrom, Tanev and Toffoli. So, I wonder which younger players Benning will be moving? - Virtanen - Gaudette - Stecher - prospects like DiPietro, Lockwood or Jasek? - or all of the above
  11. lol I forgot about the conditional 4th
  12. Good video, sounds like Toffoli loves it in VAN and wants to stay, and I'm sure Pearson would love that too. Toffoli made $4.6/an, and I figure he will want at least $5 with some term. As much as he loves it here, he still wants to be paid and mentioned having that security. So curious what Benning is going to do, and there is a lot that needs to be done.
  13. Not sure his dad, Louie, would like this move. I think he dislikes the Canucks. Louie, a former enforcer, loves that Jake plays in BOS.
  14. No way Virtanen gets a 1st. After 5 years of NHL experience he has a career high of 18 goals. Not great. And if we at CDC are hearing about Jake showing up to camps (yes, with an s) out of shape, and going out to nightclubs during a pandemic, and driving while taking selfie video - then every other GM in the league knows about it too. The question is whether another GM is willing to take a chance and try to reign Jake in and turn him into a good pro. He has the tools, but is selfish and immature. Wasn't Evander Kane kind of like this earlier in his career? Anyway, I'm not sure Jake's value is very high I'm afraid. I think he will most likely be the added piece to trading Sutter, or something like that.
  15. I'm not sure Benning is after draft picks, but more to shed some salary. Jake or Adam might be added to a Sutter trade though.
  16. When is the expansion draft? The Canucks can only protect one goalie. My guess is that would be Demko. But I can't see the Canucks losing Markstrom for nothing to SEA. That gives between now and then to move Markstrom. I think they try the playoffs again with both goalies. Maybe Markstrom gets traded at the end of the 2020/21 season. I don't know if Toffoli will be re-signed, unless Benning can shed some salary and Toffoli's contract is reasonable. In order to move Sutter, Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle, etc., the Canucks would probably have to add a young player or prospect.
  17. It might sting to lose 1-2 young players / prospects, but I believe Benning can get the job done by trades. Not sure what that would look like. Once Virtanen and Stecher are re-signed. E.g. Eriksson, Virtanen and a pick to __ for __? Sutter and Stecher to __ for __?
  18. Some good stuff here. - Needing two goalies to succeed in today's NHL - Markstrom has earned the right to explore free agency - Demko is ready to be a #1 starter, next year or the year after - Sounded doubtful they can re-sign Toffoli, Tanev AND Markstrom. Who's the odd man out? Markstrom or Toffoli? - Motte, Tanev and Leivo will be re-signed - Pumped up Virtanen's tires, perhaps advertising a Sale - Regarding Eriksson and Sutter - they'll talk internally to try and find a solution
  19. Interesting that Benning won't be signing new free agents, but will promote within. They could also make trades though too. Virtanen is probably on his way out. Sutter might be a player to leave, they'll need to keep Beagle. I think Stecher and Benn could be gone, with Rafferty, Juolevi and Rathbone possibly taking a spot next season.
  20. Murray - "No, please God no, not the same division as Pettersson and Boeser..."
  21. An island called Saba, near St. Maarten in the Caribbean. It has the shortest commercial runway in the world (see below). Really quite a hairy takeoff and landing lol Yes, that's a steep cliff at each end of the runway. It's basically a mountain, that inhabits around 2.,000 people. There's one road that winds all the way up the mountain to town. Awesome place.
  22. and yet he's in the Final 4 on a contender. I don't think Tampa has any weaknesses on D. Shattenkirk was a +22 last season and is +9 in these playoffs. He brings truculence and experience, which was missing from the Canucks D. Right shot, at 31 still has some years left.
  23. If Benning plans on having Chatfield and Juolevi in the lineup next season, what does that mean for the D? Edler - Myers Hughes - Tanev Juolevi - Stecher Chatfield Benn and Fantenberg leaving? Did he mention Rafferty? If not, then he could be on the way out.
