  1. my hope for next season edler - myers hughes - tanev juolevi - shattenkirk fantenberg
  2. It sounds like Benning's #1 priority is to re-sign Markstrom. I'm almost certain he's not going to trade him. Demko would be possible for a trade, but CAR already has Mrazek.
  3. Can anyone else see a scenario where Benning trades Eriksson and Virtanen for nothing, or maybe a mid round pick? Just to shed the salary.
  4. I have a feeling this may happen: For 5 years Jake has been force fed defensive play development, and when he finally made the team, he was given sporadic time in the bottom 6. Jake's point totals have slightly gone up each year. In the shortened season, he scored 18 goals. Canucks end up trading Virtanen for a 2nd (because his value dropped, Benning didn't hide he was disappointed) Jake goes to another team and is instantly valued for his size and speed and given an opportunity to play in the top 6. His confidence skyrockets. Jake succeeds and scores 25-30 goals a season. Of course, the opposite could also happen, but not giving Virtanen significant time in the Top 6 seems like a waste to me.
  5. Tuch is a good comparable. He's noticeable, and his speed kills. Jake just doesn't seem to have that same killer mentality. Perhaps the Canucks have been trying to turn him into a player he's just not comfortable being. I think Jake plays more on instinct, rather than structure. And when Jake steps out of his lane, Green comes down on him. I would imagine Jake's confidence isn't great, as a player. I really wish we could've seen Jake in the Top 6 on a consistent basis. I wonder why they haven't given him a spot? Could he pot 25 goals playing with Horvat and Pearson? If so, then why re-sign Toffoli?
  6. Well, to be fair, Jake was taken at #6, Quinn at #7. What up? I'm not buying the "power forwards take longer to develop". What takes longer? Their brains?
  7. Especially after Benning publicly said how disappointing Jake was lol
  8. $7,250,000 for 2 more years with a NMC. How are they going to trade him? He is pretty expensive, but he's still got game and brings championship pedigree. An upgrade from Tanev anyway, who's only 2 years younger.
  9. Speaking of players who showed up in the playoffs, I wonder why they haven't tried Motte in the Top 6.
  10. Could this mean that Loui might possibly be bought out?
  11. Good for him, that's great that they feel he's worth that. I hope he enjoys his new team.
  12. That's what I'm afraid of. Markstrom will be 31 in January, and if he's got 5 years or more at $6, I see that possibly becoming an anchor at the worst time, especially if injuries are re-occurring as he gets older. 5 years ago Loui Eriksson was a top 6 player who scored 30 goals lol It's a really tough decision, Markstom was the MVP last season and pretty much got them to the 2nd Round.
  13. Hmm, makes me wonder what the plan is for Demko then. Markstrom will be 31 in January, how many great years does he have left? I hope that when they re-sign Marky, there isn't a NTC or NMC included, but, if a player does have a NMC in their contract, does that make them exempt from the SEA expansion draft? E.g. Re-sign Markstrom for 3 years at $5.5 and give him a NMC Protect Demko Not sure they would, but can they do this?
  14. It sounds like there could be movement, one of Sutter or Eriksson, but it's going to cost the Canucks. My guess is a prospect we may have been hoping to see one day. I'm not sure Benning gives up one of the D (Rathbone, Woo, Juolevi) or Hoglander and Podkolzin Lind, DiPietro or Focht ??
  15. Markstrom was the MVP this season, I would consider him elite. I'm confident they'll re-sign him, even though I think Demko has a better future. Maybe Demko will be used as a trade chip to recoup the 1st they lost? Or in a trade for a Dman? Demko was outstanding in his 3 games and some teams could be very interested. However it plays out, the Canucks are going to have to select the goalie of the future. The one that will take them to the Cup. Hope they make the right decision.
  16. Hall could improve VAN's Draft lottery chances as well I would love to have Hall in the Top 6. He has size and isn't afraid to run other players over. I remember when he demolished Philip Larsen a few years ago. Could've used him against Vegas. Heck, maybe Baertschi could even be a stop gap at #2LW until Hoglander arrives. Baer is cheap.
  17. Granlund's got Virtanen type numbers, and would be too expensive for what he'd bring Maybe Toffoli accepts (no more than) 3 years at $5? If not, then bye. He disappeared against Vegas.
  18. Aside form Eriksson's terrible contract, I don't care much for Beagle's and Roussel's either. They have the same contract: $3,000,000 with modified NTC, and we still have them for 2 years
  19. I forgot to include re-signing Markstrom lol With Eriksson's $6,000,000, the penalties, and Markstrom and Tanev getting raises, can they afford to re-sign Toffoli and bring in better bottom 6 players?
  20. Notable RFAs I think they'll re-sign: Motte Gaudette MacEwen Notable UFAs I think they'll re-sign: Leivo - cheap Tanev - he'll be reasonable with his contract, his chemistry with Hughes Fantenberg - cheap, played physical, solid Dman Domingue - total pro in the bubble and cheap Toffoli will be let go (too expensive) Ferland - LTIR Virtanen, Sutter, Roussel, Benn and Stecher will be traded, somehow Miller - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - ?? Leivo - Gaudette - MacEwen Motte - Beagle - Eriksson Lind Edler - Myers Hughes - Tanev Fantenberg - Rafferty Juolevi
  21. Watching the DAL-VGK game yesterday, it was apparent to me that the Canucks were in over their heads, and it's quite amazing they even took Vegas to 7 games. The Canucks need to get bigger and stronger. Right now it seems they've got a bunch of young skilled guys and a bunch of older vets. Where's the big, strong, aggressive players? They're not there yet, they could barely get any shots on the Vegas net. I'm okay with the Canucks being out. I would rather they leave the bubble after a gutsy 7 game series against the favourites that left their tanks empty, than a 4 game beat down from the Stars. These playoffs were a big success, they can build off this.
  22. We've waited for 5 years for the Canucks to get back to the playoffs, and along the way there was a lot of speculation that Jake would be a real playoff performer, because of his size and speed, a power forward after 5 years of NHL learning and development. The Canucks finally get back, this is Jake's time... 16 Games - 2 goals, 1 assist = 3 points
  23. Some of the issues I noticed during the series against Vegas (aside from being tired and banged up):: - bottom 6 - D Burke commented recently that Stecher is more of a spare part. He tries hard, but they need better results. Fantenberg surprised me, he brought some physicality. I hope they keep him. Have a feeling they'll re-sign Tanev, he has a special relationship with Hughes and has been a Canucks lifer. Pearson and Toffoli both disappointed me in the Vegas series. The bottom 6 disappeared from the score sheet. It's fine to have one or two of: Erisson, Sutter, Beagle and Roussel - but not all of them,
