PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Canucks vs Wild, Game 3, August 6th 2020
Nucker 67 replied to goalie13's topic in Canucks Talk
VAN - 5 MIN - 3 GWG - Hughes -
I don't get it. I thought Ferland said he wasn't going to fight anymore just for the sake of it. But then right before the faceoff, he leaned over to Foligno and challenged him. The puck dropped and they went at it. Why did he do that? To see if he could handle it? It's really too bad Ferland's career is likely done. What could've been. I hope the best for him.
-
Didn't Ferland recently say that his problem was actually an inner ear issue?
-
There was a lot of chirping from both teams at the end of the game. Saw Beagle and Staal talking trash to each other. This could get physical and nasty. I hope Ferland is okay. They'll need Jake too, Green needs to let go of the bloody leash and let Jake play his game. I feel bad for him, it looks like he's playing scared. Not scared of the Wild players, but afraid to make a mistake, and then the wrath of Travis. This is a good series, MIN is underrated. Fiala is a great player, so they need to shut him down. Hmm, the Canucks need someone fast, who can engage Fiala physically to get him off the puck, if need be. If only they had a guy like that (Jake!!!) Also, take out that Parise guy. He annoys me.

Would a line of Pettersson-Horvat-Boeser work?

Miller - 27 goals 45 assists Toffoli - 24 goals 20 assists Ferland basically miss last season, but he looks to be back to his old self Miller's 45 assists suggests he does know how to create. Miller and Hughes tied for the team lead in helpers. Toffoli and Ferland can play physical, battle in the tough areas and can score. The team leader in goals, assists and points (Miller) providing little to no offense? -

They're the same players as the current roster, yet, rearranged properly, they look like a great team. The Top 6 looks for real, but that 2nd line is really intriguing to me. Big, gritty, physical and lethal around the net. -
Okay, wild guess, but Green and Jake probably don't see eye to eye, like Eriksson said a while back about he and Travis. Jake is probably the only player left on the team that Travis can control. Virtanen doesn't make much yet, and Green can dictate how little ice time he's allowed. He doesn't put Virtanen in positions to succeed very often. Maybe it's because he doesn't agree with Jake's off-ice (personal) activities? Maybe this is a form of punishment for lil' Jakey boy? "Jake!! Go sit in the corner of the locker room!! But coach, it's round..."

That first game actually had some nastiness to it. Ferland's fight against Foligno to kick things off. Roussel playing his chippy game. The whole spear-gate thing. There were a lot of hits, but the Canucks need even more physicality. Horvat needs to be a bull and drag this team into the fight. Virtanen should be a nice boost, with his speed and gritty game. Myers played pretty physical last game, I'd like to see Edler crash and bang a little more. Any chance Benn can re-join the team for Game 3? I'd also get MacEwen in there. He's big, fast and he hits. C'mon Travis, the future is now. Playing Eriksson and Sutter will only result in you getting fired.

MIN does have a very good D, but the Canucks should be able to generate some goals. They looked out of sync in Game 1, passes were off, a lot of giveaways. MIN put on the pressure, every time a Canuck had the puck they were swarmed, which created more bad passes and giveaways. Love Quinn Hughes, but he needs to play better D as well. The Canucks need to wear down the Wild, hit everything that moves. Parise is injury prone. Just sayin...
-
Awesome that Ferland played all of Game 1, this is great news! Ferland had a big fight against 6'3" 230 lb Marcus Foligno, and probably had the edge. No concussion issues at all. He plays with a lot of grit, but he has to keep his emotions in check. He can't let the Wild get under his skin. I hope he crushes several Wild tonight, maybe score a goal?

Now that is a Top 6 that could do some damage -

Bo would take a lot of the abuse from opponents, making things miserable for Dryden, I mean Stalok. But this could take attention away form Petey and Boeser on the wings. Who do the Wild cover? Right now, Pettersson is trying to drive that top line by himself it seems. How's that working out? And who's Bo's winger now? Eriksson? Yikes Travis. -

I'm not sure Green is open-minded enough to try those lines, but I like them a lot. Pettersson is the star player and Green might feel he should be the #1C, to build the team around. But I like the idea of Petey on wing, where he may not have 2 guys hanging off him at all times. A top line centre (especially in the playoffs) takes a certain beating, driving up the middle, crashing the net, battling in faceoffs. Puck possession is so important, and it starts with winning faceoffs. Bo is better suited for this IMO. Bo would also benefit from having Petey and Boes as wingers, and vice versa. I mean, why not have the captain and best faceoff guy centre the top line, along with the two best wingers? -
They score one more goal than MIN tonight, and it's a best of 3. They can do this. I saw very little team work last game, a lot of nerves (Hughes, Gaudette), a captain who didn't really rally his team, and veterans who couldn't make a pass or generate any offence. That all has to change. This is the playoffs Horvat. Show us why you were chosen captain.

How good is Stalok's blocker? All I saw were Canucks' shots into his glove or his chest. They made it fairly easy for him. When you look at the 3 goals from the Wild: 2 were soft, bad goals Markstrom would love to have back, and the other was an empty netter. It was 2 mistakes, that was the difference. The shots were pretty equal, both teams had opportunity. MIN played a better D game, but the Canucks were in it with 5 minutes left. They had the PP and squandered it. They had chances when they pulled Markstrom too. Keep pounding MIN, especially Dumba the baby elephant. Pettersson needs some space, help him out ffs.

Bang on. I also like what Bertuzzi said, thanks for the quote. He's right. I'm hoping Horvat will wake up, and the 2 ex-Kings need to step up. Miller looks like he's in a bit of a funk, I hope everything is okay with him. He provides a lot of grit and offence when he's on his game. They need to break through and crash the net. They have to want it bad enough.

I watched the last 7 minutes of the game (still had on PVR), and with less than 5 minutes left, the Canucks got a PP. It wasn’t good, Gaudette was in the slot for a prime shot at the net and he gives a hard pass to Boeser in the corner ??? Gaudette also missed the mark and MIN got the puck back. Then after being unable to manage a shot on net, the Canucks pulled Markstrom and actually had some chances. But again, they couldn’t get any quality shots on net. Pettersson had a chance with a one-timer, but his stick exploded. I don’t think MIN is the type of team who become frustrated and play emotional. They are a well-oiled, disciplined team, so having a guy like Roussel running around taking cheap shots (and then taking penalties) is a terrible game plan. His antics even got him tossed from the game with less than a minute left. That’s not how the Canucks are going to beat the Wild. I think the Canucks can beat these guys. They looked bad at times in Game 1 (especially the off-the-mark passes and giveaways), so I hope they play a lot better than that in Game 2. They need Horvat, Miller, Toffoli, Pearson and Ferland to play their best. If they can ALL do that, they have a chance. OUT - Gaudette IN - Virtanen
