  1. I think people need to calm down about Jake not playing last night. It was a practice game. Maybe Green just wanted to see what MacEwen could do in av game that didnt matter. Virtanen is a big part of the team and Green knows what he can do. I expect a hungry-to-prove-himself Jake in the lineup on Sunday. And MacEwen will sit. Is Taylor going to freak out about that too? Pfft, media.
  2. I have certain expectations for the Canucks. I look at the roster and I think they can go deep in the playoffs. The D game may be their only real hindrance at times. But then I got to thinking, if they can't beat the Jets, how will they ever get to the Cup? It's not the last 4 or 5 games. It's now 11 in a row I believe. That's dominance, year after year. Are the Canucks ready to do anything? What's missing? Is it the lackluster D at times, or is it Green's coaching style? Are their stars too young?
  3. Virtanen will play in Game 1. Green just showing Jake - look, we have players and if you don't giv'er then you'll sit. I think Jake will have a good game on Sunday.
  4. IMO, Troy Stecher is the weakest link on D. He got caught up ice and out of position - again - and it cost them a goal. This happens too often. I know he works hard and really gives his all, but I think he's a liability. Markstrom needs and deserves better D in front of him. This is an area the Canucks need to improve (defensively) if they want to do anything in the playoffs. Quinn Hughes also gets out of position on occasion and may give up the puck once in a while, but Stecher is no Hughes, and Hughes has Tanev as a responsible D partner.
  5. Let's just hope we never face the Jets in a playoff series. For some reason, the Canucks can't beat this team.
  6. 2020/21? Edler - Myers Hughes - Tanev (re-signed) Juolevi - Severson* Fantenberg Benn Rafferty * by way of trade
  7. Geez, I must be hockey-starved. I clicked on a Bruins signing thread.
  8. If Pettersson plays 15-20 years for the Canucks, can he beat the Sedins' records? If so, then this is the greatest team. Got to factor in Hughes, a player the likes they've never had. Canucks have depth now too. Top notch prospects (Lind, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Focht, Juolevi, Rathbone, Woo, etc.) developing. They'll be a good team for years if they can manage the cap well.
  9. This could have a big impact on Jake, and I hope they do it. I think maybe some feel he needs to be a protector type player, drop the gloves and beat on opponents, because he's got a little size and maybe he played that kind of game in Jrs. That's a lot of pressure for a kid, to have to stand up to the toughest players in the NHL night after night. Maybe Jake isn't a mean guy, maybe he doesn't really like to drop the gloves. I'm sure that's not why Benning drafted him at #6, to get into fights and hammer anyone and everything within range. Jake has skills. He's fricken fast, and has a lethal shot. Maybe playing him with Ferland would allow him to relax a bit, take the pressure off, and be more able to showcase his skills. Ferland's got skills too.
  10. Always nice to see a Canucks win, but even if they don't in this one, doesn't really matter. All practice. Great that we get to finally see what the team looks like, and I'm expecting big things from them during this campaign. Maybe I shouldn't, but I just look at all of the positions, and the Canucks should be a very tough team to beat. If Juolevi continues to improve, the D will be all for the better. Rafferty could also prove useful if they go deep and injuries occur. I'd like to see Myers use his size a bit more, make opponents pay. Markstrom is a Vezina calibre goalie. Goaltending is kind of a big deal in the playoffs. The Canucks definitely have the skill up front with Pettersson, Boeser, etc., but what I really like is the size and grit factor with some of the supporting cast: Ferland Virtanen Roussel Beagle MacEwen Bailey* Horvat, Toffoli, Motte and Miller are also gritty tough players. I think they're built for the playoffs.
  11. A part of my brain thinks the Canucks are going to be unbeatable once the puck drops, but the Jets are a tough team for them to beat. It should be a good one. Can't wait. Hoping to see Juolevi get a bit of ice time, and Ferland.
  12. Gotta be honest, didn't love Brunt's little essay. It seemed more of a boost for TOR sports teams than the NHL returning. Of course they touched on the Jays, Raptors, yada yada. Also, MacLean makes me ill. We'll have to put up with his a**-kissing during these playoffs. But a small price to pay. Hockey is back!!!
  13. I was thinking about that, they have all of the ingredients to win it all really. Youth, speed, size and nastiness, super skill, generational Dman, Vezina worthy goaltender and Green has them all on the same page. He's excited, the players are excited. Toffoli only played 10 games for the Canucks, so they're basically getting Toffoili and Ferland for the playoffs. Nice. Also sounds like Juolevi has taken some steps.
  14. So, if VAN has a 2.7 % chance in the Q round and MIN has a 2.2% chance, then it's basically over eh? lol Bring on the Playoffs!
  15. That's what I was thinking. Who made these guesses? I know the Canucks are young and pretty inexperienced, but this is a new experience for every player. Even Crosby. I think they have as good a chance as any team. They have all of the ingredients and a couple of superstars in the making (Pettersson and Hughes). What I think will make a big difference for the success of teams, is the bonding, the "us against them" mentality. It sounds like to me Green is very excited and has everyone playing at a high level already. The Canucks were pretty good before, but now they have Toffoli and Ferland added to the mix. Horvat will gather them on his back, we're in for a treat with this team. Let them all doubt. The Canucks will be Canada's last team standing.
  16. Well, Gaudette and MacEwen sure are nice weapons to have in the back pocket. Good plan. Let them loose, fresh and hungry, in Round 2 of the playoffs (after Sutter hurts his groin again)
  17. I like it stawns, but I would try to get Gaud and Big Mac in the lineup. I'd actually sit Sutter and Jake.
  18. Really like that Reynolds hasn't forgotten where he came from. He continues to give back to his community in Canada, even though he's a A-List celebrity living in La La Land.
  19. Boeser was playing injured, a lot. He's 100% now and in the best shape of his life. Let's see what happens next. My bad, this is a Jake thread. Virtanen should take his career more seriously, because there are players working real hard to take his spot, and more on the way. Yes, home town boy gets many chances and they've been patient, but he's no longer a boy. He had a good year last year, but he can do better. He could be a consistent 25 goal scorer. With the Canucks entering a sort of playoff series and then maybe playoffs, Jake might be an effective player, who agitates, hits, and uses his speed. Him, Roussel and Ferland could be a handful.
  20. Canucks are dialed in. Green is a like a kid before Christmas. So am I! Can't wait to put on the jersey (or will it be a Canucks tank top?), maybe in a few weeks some car flags? My wife had a great idea, with social gatherings these days, might be really fun to do a drive-in type gathering for Canucks games. Canucks goals will be followed by honking horns and flashing lights etc. Maybe some white towels being waved out of car windows lol Could be a fun atmosphere, especially if they go deep. I'm so psyched for hockey, big plans next Wednesday
  21. I have confidence in the Canucks. Not just to beat MIN, but to do some damage. - Markstrom will be lights out, Demko is very capable if needed - Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Miller, Horvat and Toffoli is a lot of talent for teams to try and stop - Pearson, Virtanen, Roussel and Motte provide gritty support - Gaudette and MacEwen, I think will really step up, other teams not expecting them (size and speed, with a rocket shot) - Edler, Tanev and Beagle provide stability and playoff experience. Myers' physicality will help. - Ferland, if he stays healthy, will help the Canucks go deep, he has a lot to prove
  22. Protect: Pettersson Boeser Horvat Miller Toffoli Virtanen Gaudette Myers Tanev Juolevi Markstrom At the 2020/21 TDL or Draft Trade Demko (package him with Sutter and Stecher). I don't think anyone's biting on Eriksson. My hope is he doesn't make the team, and just retires. Same with Ferland, too risky for his price tag. I'll guess that Pearson goes to SEA
  23. That zombie Johnny Canuck sure looks a lot like Achmed the dead terrorist. I like the other side of the mask.
