  1. That is impressive. Sometimes there's a gem to be found in the 4th and 5th rounds. Maybe he'll move up everyone's lists after that display.
  2. Oh, and for what it's worth, Vancouver is the closest NHL team to Russia lol
  3. Understandable that some truly believe a player like Panarin wouldn`t ever play here. He's astar and Vancouver hasn`t been a desired destination for over 10 years, maybe more. But, he might see what Vancouver is doing with their young players, prospects. The team the Canucks are building. Knowing he would play on a top line with Pettersson and Boeser would be a goal scorer's dream. Also, having a gifted player (Hughes) feeding him the puck all game. Green may also have a good reputation amongst the players. Big difference than being coached by Torts I'm sure. I guess it's possible Panarin was here to meet with the Canucks and to check out the Russian community, lifestyle, environment, homes, etc. The Canucks are close to being a playoff team next year IMO. With Panarin, they get in.
  4. Wife and I are headed to Boston this coming Thursday, taking a cruise a few days later. It`s possible I guess that they could either win the Cup or lose by the time we leave on the cruise. I don`t think I could fake their happiness if they win. I would take much more pleasure in seeing a lot of long faces lol
  5. So, Boeser and possibly Boldy (the #10) for Turcotte? No thanks.
  6. Sounds like Boeser may want what players in the NHL of his calibre are now making ($7-8). The Canucks, though, may be offering him a similar deal as Horvat ($5.5), which is a bargain. I think they`ll settle on $6 over 5 years. They have lots of time to sort it out. Maybe Boeser`s camp is waiting to see what Laine signs for.
  7. You may be right. Soderstrom has slipped a bit in the rankings and isn`t as big as Broberg or Seider, but he`s a great skater and has a high hockey IQ. He drafted a guy like that last year. I`m not sure who I prefer from the D. Probably Broberg or Seider, because the D is a little undersized. Quinn needs a solid defensive Dman as his partner. Maybe Woo will be that guy one day?
  8. Yes I wish they stuck with that theme. I do like the original stick in rink. Maybe they need to go back to their roots!...bloody roots! (little nod to Sepultura)
  9. Nah I think the idea of the Hughes brothers together is intriguing, but they wouldn`t be like the Sedins (one is a D and they're not twins) and it would be way too expensive. It wouldn`t be just the #10 and Boeser, it would be the #10 and Boeser ++. And no way Holland adds the #8 in a Eriksson-Lucic swap.
  10. I think the title should be `Boeser TO Hughes`, because that`s what we`ve got comin`!
  11. I would be totally okay of they went back to those original stick in rink jerseys, with no name on the back and the V on the lower arms. They brought them out during the 40th anniversary (what? 10 years ago already?) Those were really nice (the road whites)
  12. I wonder if Benning actually wants Soderstrom. Projected to be the best mobile RD in the Draft, and the Canucks really need more (and better) RDs. Benning recently alluded to that successful teams in the playoffs have mobile Dmen, and then went on to say that they (the Canucks) have work to do. Maybe Benning`s more recent comment about liking a mid-round Dman (Seider? Harley?) was to take attention off Soderstrom, which not many seem to be talking about these days.
  13. I never seriously considered the idea of trading for Marleau, but you make an interesting point, with him playing with Pettersson and Boeser and maybe having a bounce-back season. It would only be for 1 year, and his salary would be affordable. The Canucks also need a bit of an upgrade to their Top 6. He would also bring veteran leadership to that line, and the room. What would the Canucks have to give TOR in return? Three 6th round picks? lol
  14. I find it funny, in a pathetic sort of way. Please, someone, anyone, take our garbage. We need to pay Marner a boatload of cash lol
  15. I like Seider as well, but there are a few D who could become top pairing defenders (Harley, Broberg, Soderstrom etc) I think he would add some excitement to the roster. This big, mysterious German dude who skates like the wind. He would be perfect with Hughes, as he`s more of a defensive Dman. The way he skates though, he could easily jump up in the rush create some offence. Good zone exits. I would be okay of they drafted Seider at #10, as long as Dach or Cozens aren`t still available.
  16. Oddly, I was an Islanders fan as a kid in Winnipeg during their heyday. Bossy and Trottier, Billy Smith hacking and whacking, Potvin`s hip checks, the Sutter brothers, Bobby Nystrom, Goring`s strange JOFA helmet lol Long time ago though, still like the Islanders as a team, but obviously not a real fan anymore. 100% Canucks fan since 2007 (when I moved here).
  17. I can`t imagine the cost, but having Trouba would be fantastic. Just spit-balling: to WPG - Tanev (a RD reunited with his bro) and the #10 (2019) ?? Would VAN have to a more?
  18. Those actually look pretty sweet. Makes so much more sense as a team logo. Moreso than the orca IMO. I think you`re bang-on with the added green in the logo, although if they insist on having a whale as the logo, then I wish they would re-design the whale to look meaner - like the Sharks logo. I know the whale design represents the people of Haida Gwaii, but why not have a Haida design shoulder patch then? As a nice nod, paying respect. This is what they need to do: 1. Decide what a Canuck is 2. Design and develop a logo and mascot that match their definition of Canuck 3. Run with it and never change it again
  19. Yes, I`m assuming TOR would like to trade Zaitsev and his 5-year $4.5 million contract and take back prospects and picks (so they don`t have to pay them yet). In no way would I want to help TOR with their cap issues, so any trade with them would need to be heavily in the Canucks favour. I don`t see TOR getting fleeced again by VAN (Carcone for Leivo), and they`ll probably deal Zaitsev to another sucker...I mean team. My guess EDM.
  20. Some good options. I know the Canucks need D as well, but there will be plenty of D in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to choose from. In order of preference: _____ - Pettersson - Dach _____ - Pettersson - Cozens Zegras - Pettersson - Boeser Krebs - Pettersson - Boeser Boldy - Pettersson - Boeser _____ - Pettersson - Podkolzin
  21. Trying to clear cap space. I hope they don`t get any takers. Unless, like some have suggested, the Canucks take advantage of them, by getting another player(s)/prospect(s) back in the deal. Zaitsev hasn`t produced much over the last 2 seasons (even though his +/- has been okay), but he is a RD with decent size. I think he`s still got 5 years left on his contract, but his salary is about the same as Tanev`s, and Zaitsev is 2 years younger. It could save Benning having to sign an expensive UFA Dman this off season (other than Edler). to TOR - Tanev and Sutter - roughly $8.8 to VAN - Zaitsev and Nylander (that`ll clear some cap space lol) - roughly $11.5 _____ - Pettersson - Nylander Pearson - Horvat - Boeser Edler - Stecher Hughes - Zaitsev Hutton - Schenn Juolevi - Biega Tryamkin?
  22. Well, if Brock becomes difficult to MIN - Boeser and 2nd (2020) to VAN - #12 (2019) and 1st (2020) #10 - Cozens #12 - Seider
  23. There is time, so not concerned. Brock seems like a reasonable guy.
  24. Trying to envision who would look best on Pettersson`s wing in a year or two. 1. Dach - Big C/RWer with all of the tools would be perfect. I don`t think he falls though, possibly the 3rd best player in the Draft. 2. Cozens - Reminds me of Dach actually. Big C/RWer who goes to the net, has a great shot, smart, etc. 3. Zegras - Super skilled and smart/creative. Possibly the best hands in the Draft. 4. Lavoie - He can also take faceoffs, has size, a good shot and he can skate. Could become a dominant player. 5. Krebs - Great shot, smart, good skater. I could see him having chemistry with Pettersson. 6. Boldy - Smart player, good playmaker and has decent size. He`s only going to get bigger, hopefully he also gets faster. Maybe Nots: Podkolzin - Has all of the tools to become a great NHLer, but, the Russian thing scares me. This is an important pick that can`t be wasted. Newhook - Reminds me a bit of Krebs, but not as good as Krebs. Caufield - He`s too small to play on a smallish line, IMO. Kaliyev - Not interested, because I don`t think he`s a very good skater. Heck of a shot though.
  25. Hmm, don`t agree. No way Dach falls to #10, and Caufield at #5? Well, if we get Dach, then there`s definitely reason to celebrate at VAN`s draft.
