Reasons for "NO" - Podkolzin - may stay in Russia - Broberg - hockey IQ and development time - Caufield - too small - Newhook - playing in BCHL may have inflated his stats - Seider - injury history and development time - Kaliyev - plays disinterested at times
-
Everyone uses Crosby as the example of concussions, because he was able to get through it and continue to be successful. A lot of players don't though. If Seider is already struggling with injuries in a German league, what kind of shape will he be in 2-3 years when he's facing the world's best in a NA style of game?
-
well, he's no Kaeden Korczak
-
I wonder if Benning could pry Liljegren from TOR. Maybe if they took on a bad contract to relieve some of their cap hell? I know Benning mentioned he would like another mobile Dman and Liljegren ticks some boxes. He's a RD, decent size (6'0" 190), has been developing for 2 years already. eg. to TOR: squat to VAN: Liljegren and the final year (2019/20) of Horton's contract ($5,300,000)

good point, I agree Seider would be perfect with Hughes, because he's so defensive.
-
Will absolutely not make it to #10: Kakko Hughes Byram Turcotte Dach Could be at #10: Podkolzin - RW for Pettersson's line Cozens - RW for Pettersson's line Krebs - LW for Bo's line Boldy - LW for Pettersson's line Zegras - LW for Bo's line Broberg - future pairing with Hughes Soderstrom - future pairing with Juolevi We're gonna get a good one

Well, it was a thought (or a hope). Not sure there are any other goalies out there that would be worth taking a chance on with a mid-pick. There is a Russian goalie that will be eligible next year (Yaroslav Askarov), and he is sensational. A 6'3" 16-year old lol I suspect he may go in the Top 10. He's that good. I wonder if some teams needing a goalie down the road will wait on a chance to take him next year.
-
I'd like to be at the Draft, just to "boo" Bettman in person lol but I get so much more from watching on TV at home, the interviews, the build up and discussion of picks and commentary etc. Benning might not get another 1st for this Draft, but he might get a player with the 2nd who could've gone in the 1st. (hoping) #10 - (C/LW) Peyton Krebs or (LW) Matthew Boldy #40 - (G) Spencer Knight #71 - (RD) Drew Helleson
-
I agree, I think he's ranked around #25-#31 or so, but if teams pass because they don't want to take a goalie early, then he could fall? Not sure if that would be a waste pick though, if they feel DiPietro could do something down the road. Then again, if he has success in the AHL, maybe he would be trade bait? A Demko/Knight duo sounds good to me though.
-
What are thoughts on: if Spencer Knight falls to #40? TBH, I'm still not sold on DiPietro, due to his lack of size. So much open net. He's an athletic goaltender, but the NHL is so fast. I'm not sure how he would do, considering he got lit up in his debut last year. Sure, he is young still, but will he grow?

I'd like to get Broberg, because he's already playing against men, he has size and speed, and is a type of player the Canucks don't currently have. His presence could be known in the playoffs, as he plays a physical, fast game. A future Broberg - Hughes pairing would be nice. EDM may take him at #8 though, as they also need D that can play soon. They might be thinking a Broberg - Bouchard pairing. If Broberg is gone, I wouldn't mind Seider, but he concerns me too. He's had some injury woes, and was put out again in the Worlds. I'm thinking if Broberg is gone by #10, go with a forward (Krebs, Boldy, Zegras) and then take a D with the 2nd (Vlasic, Thomson, Korczak) and 3rd (Thrun, Helleson, Spence).

[Proposal] Revamped Wingers/Defence
Nucker 67 replied to yztnuK's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Only if Hall is included in a deal. In addition to being a great player, the Canucks need his lotto luck. -
I wouldn't mind York, but seeing as Hughes is a smallish mobile Dman, it wouldn't make sense to pair them together. I coukld see a fuituire D core: Edler (6'3") - Hughes (5'10") Juolevi (6'2") - Stecher (5'10") York (5'10") - Woo (6'0") Not very intimidating though.
-
lol, sounds like a Benning pick! Not a bad one either. York was very good at the U18. Benning did mention that good playoff teams have mobile Dmen and that the Canucks have work to do. York is a smart, mobile Dman.
-
Do the Canucks need a sure thing? Can they afford to use a #10 pick on a player that may not want to play here? I'm not sure. This is a very important Draft for the Canucks. After this one, they may not get another Top 10 pick (unless they are eligible and win the lottery). Benning needs to add quality to the prospect pool, actual players. Not just a name of a good player with an asterisk next to it (like Tryamkin). I would like Broberg or Seider, but there should be some really good forwards at #10 (Krebs, Boldy, Zegras). I see there are also a lot of Dmen that should be available in the late 1st, 2nd and early 3rd: Matthew Robertson Ville Heinola Anttoni Honka Alex Vlasic Tobias Bjornfot Marshall Warren Ryan Johnson Lassi Thomson Kaeden Korczak Mikko Kokkonen Dominick Fensore Henry Thrun If we could nab two of these guys with the 2nd and 3rd, I think they'll be in fine shape.
-
I haven't watched one Canada game. Nice that Stecher is playing with them, but I'm more interested in watching the other Canucks and a couple of prospects: USA - Q. Hughes, J. Hughes, Demko Sweden - Pettersson, Markstrom, Eriksson Finland - Kakko Germany - Seider Nice that both Canucks goalies are in this thing
-
Rask vs Binnington - should be a great series. Hoping for the Blues, payback after losing to the Bruins in 1970. So, Biinnington starts for the Blues in early 2019, gets them winning, gets them into the playoffs, gets them to the SCF, and if they win he'll probably win the Conn Smythe. Hard to believe this kid probably won't win the Calder

Canucks are at a point now where they'll want to make a real push for the playoffs soon. They should get in the year after this season IMO. But what will they do when they get there? The playoffs are fast and furious, physical and demanding, even dirty and violent at times. A successful team will need great goaltending and fast, physical players, with some size. I'm watching the Blues and they look like a big, fast team, steam rolled the Sharks. The Canucks have some good players, who have some speed and size, can play physical: Horvat Leivo Pearson Virtanen Roussel Edler And up and coming (hopefully): Gaudette Gadjovich MacEwen Woo Tryamkin This will bode well when they get to the playoffs, but they need more. I wonder if Boldy might be the prefect draft pick this year. He has good size and smarts, would look good on Pettersson's wing. I have some concern about his speed, but that can be worked on. Two other options at #10 are Broberg or Seider. Having a big, physical Dman who can skate like the wind is something the Canucks don't really have. (other than maybe Edler?)
-
I thought he pegged the Canucks to take Harley at #10. I hope not, I think that would be a bad pick at #10. Too many good forwards and better D will be available. It would be tough to pass on Podkolzin, but there is so much uncertainty with him. Will he move to NA? If so, how will he adjust? I'm hoping DET takes him, so we're not faced with that decision lol
-
lol we're not getting Hughes or Kakko, or Byram, or Dach, or Turcotte...etc. It would cost us Pettersson or Boeser and there is no way Benning trades one of those guys for a player who hasn't set foot on NHL ice yet.
-
I thought Fensore was great at the U18. Good skater, quick, smart, offensive, but then I saw he was only 5'7" 174. Still, any team looking for a quick, mobile Dman, he would be a great pick in the 2nd/3rd.
-
I thought Beecher was really good at the U18. Big player who can skate. I would also love to get Grewe. Hughes-Seider would be ideal.
-
Thinking, I was sure the Canucks needed to draft a D with the 1st, to improve the quality of the D depth. Their top guys of the future are Hughes, Juolevi and Woo. But there are quite a few pretty good Dmen in the late 1st-2nd. Heinola, Thomson, Robertson, Korczak, Bjornfot, etc. One of these guys would also look pretty good to round out our Top 4, or at worst, a real good bottom pairing. Going to assume Tryamkin comes back. (eg) Tryamkin - Hughes Juolevi - Stecher BJORNFOT - Woo Rathbone The Canucks also need better quality up front. Horvat has had to carry the team on his back last season, he deserves better wingers. I do like Pearson on his LW. Maybe they sign a UFA? Pettersson also needs better quality wingers. I like Boeser as his RW. Which makes me think maybe they should go after a winger at the Draft, for Pettersson`s line. Maybe it takes a year or two for that player to get here, but that`s okay. Something to look forward to. BOLDY - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - DONSKOI
-
I heard that, and he might be onto something! I know he`s a well respected scout (director of scouting), and he knows his stuff. He also said recently: the teams that pass on Caufield will do so at their own peril He also predicted Harley will go at #10.
