Apparently, this is (was) a concept for the new Seattle team (Sea Lions). Damn them, I love these uniforms. (not crazy about the front logo, but the rest of it is nice)

There are a lot of "experts" out there putting rankings together, their own lists. But who's list is best? It`s confusing seeing a guy like Button rank Nikolaev at no. 12, but then McKeen`s ranks him in the 2nd round, for example. The Draft Analyst McKeen`s Hockey ISS Hockey Dobber Prospects The Hockey Writers Button (TSN) McKenzie (TSN) Future Considerations The Athletic The Hockey News Elite Prospects Central Scouting (NA and EU)

Saw a mock draft from one of the writers for The Hockey Writers. Here are the (early prediction) Canucks first 3 picks: #10 - (C/LW) Peyton Krebs #40 - (C/RW) Albin Grewe #71 - (LD) Henry Thrun I would be happy with this.

Great info, thanks!

Oh thanks! I have a list of all of the players, but there are some on there I have no idea if they're even still in the Canucks' system. So, are the Comets' goalies Bachman and Mazanec? Rafferty and Teves were only signed until the end of the 2018/19 season. Any idea if they'll be re-signed, or do they walk? I noticed Mitch Eliot did very well a\with Sarnia this past season (55 points in 66 games). I'm assuming he'll head to Utica next season with Woo?

Caufield looked great on Hughes' wing at the U18 - but who wouldn't? He had a field day in that tourney. But he is small and his skating is a concern. Watching these playoffs, they are brutal and physical every year. I'm actually really proud of our Canucks for making it there the last time (2011) It is grueling. I also wonder if Caufield will have any impact when he's facing the leagues best D and goaltenders, especially in the playoffs. One thing he seems to be good at though, is being elusive and finding open space. But can he do that in the NHL? Question - Do the Canucks still have Dmitry Zhukenov, Kyle Pettit and Richard Bachman in the system?
-
The Canucks have the beginnings of a nice future core with Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, Juolevi, Hughes and Demko. There are a few other players that you could add to that list, but not sure yet (Virtanen, Gaudette, Goldobin, Woo). They also have some good support players developing, but it's unknown if they'll play in the NHL regularly (Gadjovich, Madden, MacEwen, Lind, Jasek, Lockwood, Brisebois, Rathbone, DiPietro). I have no idea who Benning might pick with the #10, or if he trades up or down, but he will get another key piece to add to the core. Maybe two (I hope Benning can manage to get another 1st). My choices change all the time. The Canucks need 2-3 elite pieces. If Benning can get an extra 1st and nails the 2nd, that could fast-forward things.

[Speculation] Lucic says he would like to play here

Bummer. Well, maybe EDM throws in Sekera? He's had injury problems the last couple of years though. -
[Speculation] Lucic says he would like to play here

It was only 3 seasons ago, Lucic scored 23 goals (50 points). What changed since the 2016/17 season? Was he relegated to the 4th line because he wasn't fast enough for their top 6? He's only going to be 31 when the season starts. I think there's some hockey left in Lucic, and he does provide intimidating toughness and he never gets injured. That contract sucks though. Then again, it was only 4 seasons ago, Eriksson scored 30 goals (63 points) for BOS. He's also 3 years older than Lucic. Both players have come to a crashing halt in production and have similar, terrible contracts. Is a fresh start really necessary? Their current teams were supposed to be fresh starts. Maybe they weren't the right fresh starts. What if: to EDM: Eriksson to VAN: Lucic (25% retained) - do they also add? Lucic does have an extra year on his contract, so would he be worth paying $4.5 for the next 4 years? Could his career be rejuvenated playing in front of the home crowd? Will he become an instant fan favourite the second he drops the gloves to protect Pettersson? What's old Eriksson going to do for the Canucks? Kill penalties? uggh -
Podkolzin is staying in Russia to play for the next 2 years. Caufield is going to college next year and then probably to the AHL for a year. Who will be the better NHL player by then? My guess is it would be Podkolzin, due to his size, speed and hands. Maybe having Tryamkin here would persuade Podkolzin? My question is: why has Podkolzin's stock dropped lately? Is it because he said he wanted to stay in Russia to play there for the next couple of years?

I wonder, if Benning were to make it known his interest in Lavoie, if MTL would make an offer to move up to #10. I believe MTL really wants this guy. I wouldn't be upset if we got him either, but maybe Benning could draft Newhook or Harley at #15? Not to mention what MTL would give to move up 5 spots, to get their man. I'll assume MTL would eventually want a Kotkaniemi - Lavoie one-two punch at C. to MTL - #10 and Tanev to VAN - #15, 1st (2020), Domi
-
I also watched a bit of this, and Lavoie was pretty dominant. Digging the Jagr mullet lol

Something else I've noticed at these Worlds is how good Debricat has been. Elusive, smart, shot. Makes me wonder if Caufield would be a great choice at #10 if he's there. Canucks do need better D, but Caufield could be a great piece of the future offense. I guess it depends on what Benning does with Tanev and Hutton, maybe he signs a UFA or two? I think they need D, but Caufield could be a great weapon.
-
Watching Quinn Hughes, it's obvious he's a great skater, very good on the PP, provides offense, etc. But his D-game is lacking at times. He needs a solid top pairing defensive D-man with him. Looking ahead, maybe Woo is that guy? Maybe Tryamkin comes back and is worthy of playing with Hughes? A couple of maybes. Canucks still need more on D, better D. They can't rely on a backend of mediocre players. Edler - 3rd Tanev - Undrafted Stecher - Undrafted Hutton - 5th Biega - 5th Brisebois - 3rd Rafferty - Undrafted Teves - Undrafted Sautner - Undrafted Chatfield - Undrafted Rathbone - 4th (but he could surprise) Hughes, Juolevi and Woo are a really good start, but they need major upgrades to the talent pool. I think the forwards are very intriguing this year, but there should still be good forwards in the 2nd and 3rd. Canucks need another high-end D. Seider is an interesting thought, but he's been injured before and was injured again at the World's. Canucks don't need another Salo/Tanev type of injury prone Dman. Broberg could be an interesting pick. He has size and speed, playing against men. Harley could be a good partner for Hughes. He also has size and skates well. I think the most responsible defender could be Bjornfot.

It's not even the logo for me, I don't mind the logo so much. I don't like the jersey design though (distribution of colour, striping, numbers etc). I think it's boring.
-
My guess: 5 years - $30,000,000 Q - Could or would they consider giving Boeser a NMC, so not to have to protect him in the Expansion Draft? By then the Canucks will be strong contenders. Boeser will be 28, and he will get paid ($9-$10).
-
Krebs, Zegras or Newhook could be a great wingman for Bo. Boldy or Cozens could be great on Pettersson's wing. I'm not sure Benning cares much if the Dman plays the left side (Broberg, York, Harley). Soderstrom and Seider are two very good (but different RD). So many good options. And that doesn't include the possibility of Podkolzin dropping or what Caufield could do in the NHL, after he develops another 2-3 years. I've got to think we're getting one of these guys at #10? Maybe not?
-
Sometimes later picks turn out. Gaudette and Hutton were really good picks in the 5th round. Canucks don't have anyone playing for them drafted later than 5th. Jasek and Palmu? We'll see.

[Proposal] 8th Overall Edmonton
Nucker 67 replied to Doogie's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Ooh that would be tempting. Hughes - Pettersson - Boeser Even if Lucic regresses more over the next couple of years, he could always be dropped down to the 3rd line, while maybe Lind gets into the Top 6? With Lucic, I see him giving more effort to playing here than Loui. It obviously didn't work out for him in EDM. He was probably under the impression he would ride shotgun to McDavid for the next 7 years, but the coaching staff had other ideas. I'm sure he would like out too. -
[Proposal] 8th Overall Edmonton

EDM needs help now (getting rid of Lucic). I think any deal with EDM will involve Lucic. to VAN: #8 and Lucic to EDM: #40 Then, after Eriksson rips it up at the Worlds, they trade him. Get rid of one bad contract, pick up another, get an extra Top 10 pick. Lucic - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Krebs Hughes - Seider Juolevi - Woo -
I watched the Germany-France game yesterday (recorded), and Seider was good again. I believe he scored the first goal. He was steady all game. I got to wondering, how good will this kid be in 3-4 years after developing under NHL trainers and coaches? The sky is the limit. He's a big player with really good speed, smart, calm plays, and his reach is impressive. Real good stick work. He knows how to break up plays.
-
With Boldy, the Canucks would have another power forward (maybe the best one). If Jake can take another step this off season and prove he's worthy of a Top 6 role? Boldy - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Virtanen (this looks more like a playoff top 6) Baertschi - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Goldobin (this, does not)
-
Thanks aGENT Pavel_Bure, I think you're right. I wonder if it's Seider. He's ranked around the halfway point. But it could be any of those D (Broberg, Harley, Heinola) Not sure how I would feel if they took Harley, if Krebs or Boldy are still on the board. Canucks have their superstar on D (Hughes) and another mobile Dman in Stecher. They've got good veterans as well (Edler, Tanev, Schenn), they've got a future second line Dman in Juolevi, Tryamkin might come back and Woo might challenge for a spot this fall. Why would they use the 1st on a mid-round Dman? There should be plenty of good Dmen in the 2nd. IMO, Seider and Broberg are game-changers. No thanks to any of the other D. This is my wish list (who could still be there): Krebs Boldy Seider Broberg Newhook
