  1. I'm not really sure what he's saying here. Halfway through the first round they like some guys? We have the #10. Does this mean they might trade down? But then he mentions "if that guy is there at #10 we'll be taking him". Who could he be talking about?
  2. I would love to get Seider too, I think he's the 2nd best Dman in the Draft. If Seider is taken early, that would mean one of the top forwards falls. In the paper today, they mentioned three prospects the Canucks could be interested in: Soderstrom Boldy Zegras
  3. Considering NJ, NYR and CHI all need D badly, Byram won't make it to #4. I'm hoping for Seider myself, Canucks have to keep the puck out of their zone/net. Hughes will provide a lot of offence from the D.
  4. Playoffs?! Playoffs?!! They need to win a game first !!! lol I will be so disappointed if we have the same roster as last year. This is also a really big draft for the team, and say Benning takes Harley at #10 (and passes on Boldy and Zegras), is that enough to appease the fanbase for another year?
  5. Benning has had 2 years to prepare for this Draft in VAN. It's a big one for the team, because it's at home and with the way the rest of the West has progressed, Benning needs to nail his picks. He's going into the last year of his contract. So far, Benning has accumulated 2 extra 6th round picks. There are also a slew of bottom 6 veterans that need to go. No one has been moved yet. If the Canucks go into next season with this roster, and he doesn't acquire any more picks in the first 3 rounds... Baertschi - Pettersson - Boeser Pearson - Horvat - Goldobin Leivo - Sutter - Eriksson Roussel - Beagle - Virtanen Granlund Edler - Stecher Hughes - Tanev Hutton - Rafferty Juolevi ...should he be fired?
  6. Gunnarsson was a 5th round pick, and it sounds like he won't be signed by the Canucks? Goes to show most late picks are meaningless. Will be interesting to see which three players Benning drafts in the 6th round, that he won't sign
  7. Nylander looks like he's put on a few pounds, playing pretty confident, driving the net. Pettersson is still very skilled, but I wish he would shoot more or play with more confidence. Like the Sedins, he seems more interested in making a pretty pass, than scoring himself.
  8. I'd do that deal Edler - Hughes Byram - Seabrook Juolevi - Woo Tryamkin
  9. I haven't seen much of Soderstrom's play in games. I watched the U18 tournament, but I believe he was injured early in the tournament, so never really got to see him. I understand he's not a very big player, but has really good skating and smart. I'm guessing he's more of a mobile, offensive Dman? If so, then it wouldn't make sense to pair him with Hughes. Hughes needs a big bodies, defensive Dman as a partner. Maybe Woo in a few years? Or maybe Tryamkin comes back? Or maybe pair him with Broberg or Seider? If Benning does take Soderstrom, and Tryamkin comes back. I suspect the future Top 4 would be: Tryamkin - Hughes Juolevi - Soderstrom Woo
  10. Watched the Sweden vs Norway game and the commentator said that Pettersson is probably the most talented player on that team. I thought that was nice, but watching the games, Nylander is playing out of his mind. He has really good speed, puck possession and confidence, and he wants to score. There was one play where he had the puck and was playing keep-away skating around the O-zone, even took a hit and kept the puck on his stick. That bit of grit was impressive. They were saying that Nylander is using this tournament as a springboard to the upcoming season. If he plays like he is now, he's going to have a very good year. I never wanted Nylander before, but he would be a great addition to the Canucks.
  11. I agree, if Caufield was fast as lightning, then that would really benefit him with the limited time and space he'll have. I've been impressed with the size and speed of some players, Podkolzin, Broberg and Seider to name a few. Boldy seems to me, to be a future playoff guy. He has some size and good hands, smart. Zegras is a bit of a chippy player, but he could also be a good player. He has elite passing skills, and he could be a good fit with Bo. I think Krebs is going to be a star player.
  12. There's the whole playoffs thing too. I think he would be more like Gaudreau than Theo Fleury. Would be interesting to see how he would handle Big Buff in the corner, for example lol His head would be around the same level as most opponents' elbows and shoulder pads. He could have a tough time out there.
  13. Wow, thank you Craig, it's only been that way for the past 3 months.
  14. I don't know. Seeing Jack Hughes struggle and look like a boy playing against NHLers, is a bit of an eye-opener. How ineffective would Caufield look playing against NHLers? I was really high on him after watching the U18, but he had Hughes as his C on a stacked team and was playing against other kids. I wonder if he'll do as well playing next year for Wisconsin. He does have a year or two to grow and develop, so who knows? One thing that does intrigue me is: Pettersson's an elite passer, Caufield is an elite goal scorer. They could make a deadly duo.
  15. I think I would rather keep Juolevi, the goalie, next year's 1st and our #10 this year, than take a chance on Hughes. Canucks will get a good player at #10. Pettersson - Boeser Horvat - Goldobin Hughes - Juolevi - Woo Tryamkin Demko/DiPietro Canucks are getting there, slowly but surely. I mean, if they really want Hughes that badly, then trade Horvat as part of the package. The Canucks would need the #2 C spot for Hughes anyway. Don't trade the D.
  16. Don't be fooled by Eriksson. He plays harder when he's wearing a Team Sweden jersey. Couldn't care less as an NHLer. I remember Eriksson when he joined the team. Scored on his own net in his first game (first shift?) as a Canuck. lol I believe he passed it back to Gudbranson and Erik couldn't accept the pass, went in the empty net.
  17. Lucic will be 31 when next season starts. Last year in 79 games he produced 6-14=20 points (-9) - not good, but remember, EDM ruins players Eriksson will be 34 when next season starts. Last year in 81 games he produced 11-18=29 points (-11) - not good Pretty similar production, but Loui is also 3 years older. Forget the contract for a minute What would Lucic provide? Say goodbye to being the league's punching bag. Pettersson and Hughes would be protected (even the intimidation factor would sway opponents from taking liberties). He's not very fast, but he's big, and I imagine would clog the front of the net nicely. He's from here, and knows his time is short in the league, so I would guess he would give his all playing for the home team.
  18. BOS wanted it more. They did what they had to do. Our leaders (the Sedins) tried to play a polite game in the SCF. Big mistake. I also think Luongo lost his mental composure, allowed things to get to him. Pumping Thomas' tires? Lu Lu Lu.
  19. Gotta say, the NHL playoffs this year suck. I've been having a tough time getting into it (after the 2nd round). It just looks like the league is letting BOS do whatever they want in order to win it all - again. I much prefer to watch Pettersson, Eriksson, Stecher, Demko and Hughes play in this tournament.
  20. Benning did mention that they are looking to add another mobile Dman. So, who are those players in the #10 range? (RD) Soderstrom (LD) York (LD) Harley I think we're getting one of these guys. I'm also hoping they can nab Hoglander or Grewe with the 2nd.
  21. Picture it - 2004 Draft. Pretend the Canucks had the #2. Washington takes Ovie with the 1st (good pick) Canucks are up next, but because they fear drafting Russian players, they take a Dman Cam Barker instead. Chicago then takes Malkin with the #3. C'mon man.
  22. Benning's first Draft didn't work out very well IMO, and it's interesting that they paid specific attention to players' character after that Draft. I wonder if they really did their due diligence in his first Draft, how those interviews went etc. Virtanen at #6 (one day I hope he gets more than 25 points) McCann at #24 (who was visibly upset he was drafted by VAN) Demko at #36 (turning out just fine) Tryamkin at #66 (bolted back to Russia)
  23. I could definitely see that, and then years from now we'll complain that DET always gets good Russians lol 1. NJ - Kakko 2. NYR - Hughes 3. CHI - Byram 4. COL - Dach 5. LA - Turcotte 6. DET - Podkolzin 7. BUF - Cozens 8. EDM - Krebs 9. ANA - Boldy 10. VAN - Soderstrom (Benning is looking to add another mobile Dman, and Victor plays RD)
  24. There are a handful of players that, to me, seem more developed physically than the rest. Like they could possibly play next season. I know there are quite a few smaller players with a lot of skill, and I'm sure over time they will also grow into men. How big will Hughes and Caufield get? Kakko Dach Podkolzin Broberg Seider Lavoie I know we won't get Kakko, and probably not Dach, and Lavoie seems a far fetch at #10, but I would be extremely happy with either Podkolzin, Broberg or Seider.
  25. I don't know. Watching little Jackie Hughes trying to keep up with the big boys at the Worlds sure puts things into perspective. Kakko looks amazing. Quinn has looked very good. So, seeing as Jack is struggling playing with men, is Button going to all of a sudden drop him down several spots in his rankings? Probably not, which is why I take his opinions with a grain of salt.
