I agree! good comparison. Size and speed, drives the net, protects the puck.

I`ve been watching the playoffs and it is so physical and demanding on the players. I wonder if Caufield will have any impact if he ever gets to the playoffs one of these years. He was outstanding on Hughes` wing during the U18, but as some pointed out, he played against boys. Shooting on a 17 year old kid is much different than an NHL goalie, with NHL Defence. I`m seeing a lot of size (and toughness) from all teams still in, and speed. Podkolzin (if he drops) Broberg Seider Boldy (maybe he`ll get faster) Lavoie

Podkolzin was the unanimous 3rd OA for a long time, and then things changed for some reason. Why? He played well in the U18, won Silver. Does he have major character flaws? He is the complete package: size, speed, shot, passing, physicality, hockey IQ, competitiveness, defensive game... Kaliyev, to me, look lazy.

Virtanen was Benning's first Draft pick with the Canucks. Canucks had been pushed around for years with no pushback. In fact, it cost them their 1st Cup. Jake is a power forward who is still developing. We don't know yet what his ceiling is, because he's only 22. I still have hope that something will click, and he figures out how to use his speed and size better. Calling him a bust is a little premature.

Yes, they're a complete mess. I'm just waiting for McDavid to request a trade lol

One thing regarding BPA - isn't that how EDM has drafted the last 10 years? They've had high picks every year there for a while, and always took the BPA (which was always a forward). Look where that got them. They still don't have adequate D.

Canucks need a game-changer. I believe Zegras, Newhook, Cozens, and Boldy will become good NHL players, but maybe not game-changers. Krebs Podkolzin Caufield Broberg Seider Buitton also said, "whoever passes on Caufield, will do so at their own peril". With Soderstrom, he isn't a very big player, and seems to be more of a mobile Dman. Canucks already have Hughes and Stecher (and Rathbone developing). They need big, fast, reliable Dmen who's main purpose is to keep the puck out of the zone. I think Broberg and Seider fit this role.

Yes, I thought Vlasic played pretty well at the U18. Mind you, he played for the stacked US team. But double-mind you, Vlasic made that team and didn't look out of place. I believe he can play both sides as well. I am hoping that Grewe or Beecher are around at #40.

Huh? lol Johnny Canuck is a Canadian cartoon hero and superhero that was created as a political cartoon in 1869 and was later re-invented, most notably as a Second World War action hero in 1942. The Vancouver Canucks, a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL), currently use a lumberjack rendition of Johnny Canuck as one of their team logos.

[Speculation] Lucic says he would like to play here

Like others have said, we would need a really nice return from EDM. Don't see it happening with Holland soon to be running the show. -
As a 'Nucks-Backer, What Burns Your Bacon?

My beefs these days aren't so much about other teams, or what happened with the Canucks 20+ years ago. - the constant roster tweaking with average players - VAN never bringing in a star UFA player (see above) - the lack of team identity / the uniforms - wasting Goldobin's talent in the press box - relying on Biega every year - trading Dahlen - toying with Bo and the C he should have -
I've been watching hockey for almost 50 years. What I meant was that a final 4 teams would not have poor management. CAR made some good moves last off season, bringing in Ferland and Neiderreitter and Mrazek's been great. They've got Aho, who is great (and was a good draft pick), they've also got Svechnikov, Necas and Bean playing/developing. They're playing inspired hockey. Not sure how you can say their management sucks. Management built that team. Yes, they were horrible when they had Bill Peters at the helm and Ward and Lack in goal. Welcome to the present.

^^ Isn't that dragon's name Rocket? He flies, blows fire, like a rocket. GS Warriors, Golden Gate Bridge. Boring, but it fits. I've lived in the lower mainland for a while now, never saw a whale. Must be like bigfoot, hiding. lol The ocean isn't Vancouver. The Canucks have a confused identity. Their logo and mascot is a whale, but they also have another mascot who is a lumberjack. Neither of these things is a Canuck. Weird.

Wouldn't they though? He would probably still be worth quite a bit at the 2022 TDL. I watched some Podkolzin video last night, and well, I don't think he drops to #10. The guy is a stud, and with that blend of size, speed, hands, physicality, shot, hockey IQ - he's the complete package. His only real knock is he's Russian. Most other teams don't have issues with Russian players, so I don't expect him to fall that far. I would love to get him though. This year, I hope we don't play it safe. Take a chance on Podkolzin, Caufield, or Seider. Speaking of Seider, he's ranked lower than #10 (but that doesn't really mean anything). Someone made a suggestion yesterday saying they think the Canucks should trade down a few spots, and then acquire another high 2nd, and a prospect. If they had, say, the #14 or #15, they could draft Seider, and then with the two 2nds, could go after a couple of forwards (Grewe, Beecher, Rees, Lagare, Puistola, etc.) That's an interesting idea.

If he became a Canuck, he would be exposed during the expansion draft in his final year under contract. He doesn't have a NMC.
-
I would be choked if we traded our 1st for him. He'll be 30 next week and I believe his decline has already begun. Not to mention he's currently making $9,000,000 per over the next 3 years, and then the Canucks try to trade him at the TDL in 2022 when he's declined further at 33? We'd also have to protect him in the expansion draft. The only way I would be okay with this is if they traded Tanev (as well as Eriksson and Sutter).

Saw an interesting video someone put together on (RD) Moritz Seider. He has size, is a good skater, very reliable and steady defensively. Although, he can get the puck up ice and has good breakouts, he doesn't provide much offence, if any. But he is so strong defensively, in the D-zone, along the boards and half wall. He's already playing a big role in Germany's best league, playing against men. And he just turned 18 last month. The person who put the video together (sorry I haven't attached the video) made a very good point that Seider would be a perfect fit with Hughes as a D partner. Hughes can wheel and deal and skate circles around a lot of players, he jumps in the play a lot and creates offence. Sometimes though, his offensive skill causes giveaways or takeaways, and Hughes could be left caught up ice. With Seider as his partner, he could be free to really display all of his skills without worry. Seider would hold the back line, maybe become Markstrom's best friend He could be the steal of the Draft. I think the only reason he isn't ranked higher is because of where he plays and there being so little information about him, compared to most of the other top prospects.

Okay Alex, here's our offer: 5 years at $2,000,000 with a full NMC lol take it or leave it EDIT - sorry, I hate this, giving Edler a NMC would hurt protecting other players in 2021. There's no way they can (or should) protect Edler.
-
lol Well, I am very curious what this deal will look like. I hope Benning doesn't cave with some outrageous term with clauses.
-
I can see Edler wanting 5 years (maybe around $6 per) with a full NMC. Then I can see Benning countering with 2 years (maybe around $6 per) with no additional clause Edler wants the NMC so he can't be traded or scooped up by another team (SEA) Surely, SEA may be prepared to pay Edler the $6 per year. But what if Benning offered this deal? 3 years at $6.5 (average) with no additional clause. Maybe back load it? 2019/20 - $6 2020/21 - $6 2021/22 - $7.5 (expansion) SEA (or any other team) won't want to take on a mid-30s player with a $7,500,000 price tag in his final year. I think the Canucks will still need him for the next 2-3 years, as Hughes, Juolevi and Woo transition in. I'm not sure SEA would take the chance brining in Edler to pay him $7.5 for the season, with no assurance he would re-sign in the off season. No need to protect him with a NMC, just pay him more in the expansion year.
