  1. I believe the injuries really played a large part, and Boeser changed his game. He used to be a sniper, and now he's not scoring much at all. I have noticed he's been working harder (maybe not smarter). I think he's faster and a little more physical? His time may be up in VAN, but I think he'll regain his scoring touch on another team.
  2. Okay, but only one of these deals existed in real life. I'd say hypothetical Deal #2 with BOS. Smith's contract ends after the season, so that would be $3.1 off the books, and Carlo fills in that RD spot very nicely at a cheap cap hit.
  3. It would be more about Schenn, adding his toughness, being a Cup champ etc.
  4. I wonder, with Garland being from the Boston area, even building a house there, could a trade like this possibly happen? to BOS - Garland and Schenn to VAN - Carlo
  5. Beauvillier isn't getting a lot of love, understandably compared to Raty and the 1st, but he does bring speed and supposedly shows up in big games. As it is now, if everyone is healthy (next season) - excluding Pearson (Hoglander and Lockwood in Abby) Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Mikheyev Beauvillier - Miller - Boeser Podkolzin - Lazar - Garland Joshua - Aman - Studnicka Dries
  6. If I was an Islanders fan, I'd be pi**ed. Imagine if JR did that - very few prospects and trading away their best prospect, a decent winger and a 1st round pick, for a player that might not even re-sign. And they're not even a playoff team! They don't even need a C! They already have Barzal, Pageau, Cizikas and Nelson who can play C. People complaining that JR is too old and ruining the team. Sheesh, Lou is losing it. It's not going to instantly be better for the Canucks, it's still going to take time, drafting players, developing, etc. They'll get there though and the team will be exciting again one day. .
  7. Bo's already at his career high in goals, so he'll get paid by whoever signs him next. I don't know if he'll have much success in such a short amount of time with a brand new team. Canucks got a middle 6 C for their future, maybe he plays with Hogz and Podz down the road? That could be a tough line to play against one day. So who's next? Schenn, Boeser, both? Hope they fix the D next
  8. I can see Bo underperforming for the Islanders down the stretch, the Islanders missing the playoffs and Lou losing his job, and then DET signing him as a free agent in the off season. Yzerman didn't flinch, not giving up any prospects or picks to acquire Horvat, but he'll get his man. I'm quite happy getting Raty and the extra 1st. A good start for the future team. The Canucks will have a bit of cap space to play with, so they aren't done by a long shot. Exciting times.
  9. Another possible scenario is that NYI miss the playoffs this year and keep their pick. But maybe they also struggle next year in 2023/24, especially if Horvat doesn't re-sign, even sinking to the bottom! Good thing the Canucks have their unprotected 1st pick in 2024
  10. I was afraid Horvat would get injured and be done for the season, then walk for nothing. That would've been so bad. I'm glad that's nothing to be concerned about anymore, and I really like the trade. We can complain about the return but we don't know what the offers were that were out there. JR/PA said they wouldn't let Horvat walk for nothing, and he didn't. I'm pretty thrilled getting Raty and that extra 1st.
  11. It's not so bad at all. All of the tankers are getting their wish, the Canucks will likely drop further down the stretch = better lottery odds Plus, the Canucks acquired another 1st Round pick in a deep Draft. Be great if they could nab (RD) Reinbacher or Lukas Dragicevic with this pick. Raty will now be developing as a Canuck, with Podkolzin and Hoglander. Canucks have some cap space, which gives them a little more freedom to make trades. More to come I'm sure. Boeser next?
  12. Makes you wonder what kind of lowball offers the contenders were offering. Their loss, but it could also be NYI's loss if they can't re-sign Horvat. Thanks for the stuff Lou!
  13. I'm excited to have Raty developing in the Canucks system. I wanted him at the Draft, a real good, gritty C. Abbotsford just got better too, so I'm going to try and get out to see another one of those games this season.
  14. All the news seems to be that Lou got VAN to retain 25%. Like he robbed us or something. What does that work out to, just under $700K? Not a big deal folks. As it is, the Canucks now have $3.5 in cap space. Will Raty play in Abbotsford?
  15. Still in some shock that JR/PA actually did something BIG. Major surgery indeed. I'm glad they're serious and not just tinkering. Hopefully the Canucks can get into that Top 3 Draft position. I've always liked Beauvillier's game, so I'm not upset at acquiring him, and the Canucks only have him for next season anyway. That'll be another $4,150,000 off the cap in 2024. Hoping the Islanders miss the playoffs and finish in 13th, or else maybe we get their 1st next year and we hit the lottery. More good prospects is great. Speaking of: Podkolzin Lockwood Lekkerimaki Raty Hoglander Karlsson Klimovich McDonough the forwards prospect pool is already looking better. Now they need to work on fixing that D
  16. These are the kinds of rumours I like. Genuine. Not just Friedman or whoever trying to stir the pot, creating their own news.
  17. I grew up in WPG, and met Bobby Hull in 1975 when he was with the (WHA) Jets. In 1996 the NHL Jets left WPG (for PHX). I met Hull again in around 2000 and asked him if he thought WPG would ever get an NHL team again and without hesitation he said, "Not a chance". Ah well, he had a great slap shot.
  18. Trades and my reactions.. Miller, Boeser, Garland, OEL, Myers = ecstatic, wow! JR is amazing! incredible! Miller, Boeser, Garland, Myers = extremely happy, very impressed! Miller, Boeser, Garland = very happy, impressed, future is bright Horvat, Boeser, Garland = happy and optimistic Horvat and Boeser = it's a good start, but hopefully they do more Horvat = is this it? it's a start, but they needed to do much more Boeser = so, basically be the same team next year? boooooo!
  19. Rutherford is easy to blame for everything, but he's not doing this job by himself. Took them a year to assess, and build the management and coaching staff, and here we are. I trust the management and coaching staff that is in place, so far. I am glad they brought in proven winners this time, so that makes me optimistic. They want to win. Why would I hate that? The proof will be in the pudding though. IMO, if they re-sign Horvat and can't trade Boeser (and others) at this TDL, then my opinion will change and that optimism will vanish.
  20. Yeah, seems strange to even consider that, but his name has been rumoured this year. So who knows.
  21. JR/PA brought in several players (Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Bear, Dermott, Stillman, Lazar, Studnicka, Joshua), and I don't think they're going anywhere. Looking at the players that have been around the last 5 years: Pettersson Horvat Boeser Pearson Hughes Demko For whatever reason, this "core" isn't a winning formula. They've already said Pettersson is an untouchable, and I assume Hughes is as well. As for Pearson, it's unknown what his hockey future looks like. That leaves Horvat, Boeser and Demko. Maybe it's time to move on from these players. Love to see a trade with DET, get the future started. They have a lot of cap space. to DET: Horvat, Schenn and Demko to VAN: Rasmussen, Hronek, Husso, Cossa and 1st (2024)
  22. Repeat of 2020 Superbowl - KC vs SF, except this time the 49ers win it (payback)
