  1. I don't think they feel Smyl is competent to be the president (yet), and as VP he's probably learning from JR. Maybe he'll take over in a couple of years when the team's good again.
  2. That, and Bo is not going to drop the gloves for any of his Canucks team mates. He's checked out and it's all about building on his own stats.
  3. Horvat Pettersson Miller Boeser Kuzmenko Garland Hughes Schenn Good players, so figure it out and get a win for Bruce. 2-9 over their last 11 is pathetic for a team on the brink of losing their beloved coach.
  4. Teams don't care about draft position as much as the fans do. Teams care about winning.
  5. They gave him half the season to make the Canucks respectable and to get into the playoffs. He did not do that, so a coaching change is going to happen. This is about winning hockey games.
  6. I was thinking this as well. Hearing the Bruce there it is chants and then they panned to JR and Allvin in the box. I wondered, do they not hear this? Are they still going to go ahead with firing him, knowing how much the fans love him? Stone-cold Jim Rutherford.
  7. My gosh, the chaotic mess left behind by Benning is challenging. They can't trade any of the players, because other teams don't have cap space or the contracts handed out or inherited by Benning are terrible and unmovable. So, the Canucks are stuck with these players and they're not a good team this season. But eventually, they will make a trade or two, the Horvat situation will be settled (he might even be re-signed, or not) and in the off season they'll probably buy out a player. It's going to take time to unravel the mess and right the ship. JR was skeptical with last years;' wins down the stretch. He wanted to give Bruce this season to see if that was an anomaly or if he could actually coach them to a playoff spot. The whole team was so confident in the off season. Boeser declaring HE WILL score 30 goals this year. Yeah, sure Brock. What do you got, 9 goals at the halfway point? Maybe what hurt them most is Demko not being good and then getting injured long term. He saved their bacon many many times over the years, and now this team is being exposed as BAD (unless they have stellar goaltending, then they're okay).
  8. I'm smiles right now! I've always hoped the Canucks would one day get a person in charge who isn't afraid to make tough decisions, who had the guts to do what's unpopular, to try and get this team back to contending. Right now, the Miller signing looks real bad, but it might not be if the team is better constructed. No one is playing particularly good these days. I'm willing to wait and see how he does with different coaching and team mates. It's a s***storm right now, but I can see daylight way in the distance. Canucks are maybe at an all-time low in their existence, but there's only one way to go. Up! Better days ahead.
  9. Bruce is going to get offers to join a coaching staff after this. In fact, his popularity right now is probably at an all time high. Everyone loves Bruce, he'll be fine.
  10. Love Bruce, but JR was right I guess. The last bunch of games down the stretch last season were somewhat of a mirage. Other teams played down to them and the Canucks won a bunch of games near the end, which gave hope that Bruce was going to lead the Canucks to the Promisedland this year. It's unacceptable how bad they've been this year.
  11. Canucks are a bad team. They have some good players, but they're bad together. Looking forward to the changes when this team can find some respectability again. They got to get the Bo out of there, the guy doesn't want to be here and it's probably bringing everyone down.
  12. Canucks have a big opportunity tonight to win big for Bruce. Who knows, maybe they'll just keep winning so they can't fire him.
  13. Bruce hasn't been fired (yet), so we can chill. Maybe if the players played better, none of this would be happening and we'd be looking forward to playoffs. But I guess for the players to play better they require a good coach. Hmm.
  14. I have never seen the sports world so upset at a hockey coaches firing in my life. Everyone's piling on the Canucks right now, they're a despised organization. I don't get it. Bruce knew all along he wasn't going to be the coach for long, but yet he has the whole league's media and fans crying for him. It's weird.
  15. This team is a s***show for sure. The negative stories, one after the other. Previously, Benning fumbled his way through things, but did exactly what the owners wanted. He was a "yes man" who made mistakes. Remember he got fined at the Draft way back? He seemed a little careless, and wasn't as good a drafter as he was made out to be. The owners brought JR in specifically to turn this team around and make it a winner. Francesco went to Rutherford's house to talk to him. I don't think he's actually interfering this time. And say he is, what is Francesco going to say to JR, "Do what I say or you're fired?" lol JR would probably tell him to FO. He doesn't need this mess or stress, but he said he likes a challenge. I appreciate how candid and honest JR was during his presser, he's a no-nonsense guy and tells it like it is whether we want to hear it or not. I find it kind of refreshing. He's also making some really unpopular decisions for the betterment of the team. I find this refreshing as well. Do what you gotta do to make this team a winner Jim. There is a lot of problems with some contracts, how Benning left things, and the way the market is, 25 teams capped out. It's tough to make trades for good players, let alone a guy like OEL. But I think JR is an experienced cutthroat kind of executive who will try to do what needs to be done, whether it's popular or not. I think there's some big changes coming with the Canucks over the next year, but I also think the Canucks will be a much better team by then.
  16. This is the kind of stuff that makes VAN fans so awful sometimes. You're either a fan of the team or you aren't. Sounds like you're not really a fan, unless they do exactly what you want. No seat for you.
  17. I can see the team playing hard for Bruce tonight, even winning, but isn't that just like the Canucks? Always seem to try their hardest when it's already too late. They do it in games too. It's still somewhat early in JR's tenure, only been a year. They're going to try and build a winning team over time, and it could be uncomfortable and sad to see certain players or coaches go. All I care about with the Canucks is that they win a Cup one day. I don't care who leaves, just fricken win.
  18. Canucks need a fantastic coach, not a fantastic guy. I think JR is bringing in Tocchet early, so OEL will waive and then we'll see trades. Bold move, takes guts, this is a business. Bruce will be fine. Management seems prepared to do what it takes to build a winning team down the road.
  19. Even if he waives, who the heck wants OEL at over $7? This is an Eriksson situation, Canucks are stuck with him. Maybe they buy him out in a year or two? My concern, though, is that they trade Bo and OEL for a crappy return, just to get rid of that contract. Hope not.
