  1. The big issue last season was the D, zone exits and structure. The Canucks have played 44 games this season so far and opponents have scored 5 or more goals in 20 of those games! That's really bad. And again, the big issue this year is the D, zone exits and structure. Bruce, although very well liked, did not coach this team well. I hope the Canucks win tonight, and sweep the season series against the Avs, and get a win for Bruce.
  2. Remember when it was the preseason and the players were saying that if the Canucks don't make the playoffs then it will be a disaster? Well, Bruce coached this team to a disaster of a season. People need to get over the "Bruce there it is" thing. Bruce never liked that chant.
  3. Bruce let the players play. Let 'em loose to do their thing. That hasn't worked. How many times we see all five skaters getting caught up ice and leaving poor Delia or Martin to defend. Tocchet will be more demanding, he'll have more structure. I can see Tocchet, Miller and Hughes getting along, and Miller's game excelling under Tocchet. Miller and Hughes want to win and it's probably been frustrating for them and others on the team, with how loosey-goosey things have been, and the constant losing. Maybe some of their team mates not giving full focus or effort. As much as I like Bruce, I think this will be a good coaching change.
  4. JR needs to hit a homerun in a Horvat trade. Bo is in his prime, on pace for 50 goals, scored 31 last season. Captain, 2-time All Star, great at faceoffs. If it's just for one young player who's struggling and some plugs who are about to turn UFA, I'll be really disappointed. The return has to include a very good prospect+ IMO. Preferably a C or D.
  5. Well, they say most people get fired on a Friday. If Bruce isn't coaching anymore, I wonder if the timing of this is so the home crowd can no longer chant "Bruce, there it is"? Just take the wind right out of that sail and quietly try their best to transition to a new coaching regime.
  6. Canucks have a chance to sweep the season series against the Stanley Cup champs. How messed up is that? I know they miss Kadri, but what the heck happened to COL?
  7. I remember when he injured Petey, took him down with some sort of leglock He does have some size and annoyance to his game. He's also got some skill and being young, who knows what his ceiling is if he's put in the right situation.
  8. If it's CAR, I hope it's not Kotkaniemi coming back. I think CAR would like to dump him on the Canucks, but I hope JR doesn't cave. Horvat for Necas and Morrow Let's go...
  9. Well, Horvat is an All-Star again. His value just went up a bit more. Trade him now before he gets injured!
  10. So, Bo made it to the All Star Game? What if he's traded before then? Could be awkward for Petey. Or maybe they wait until the TDL.
  11. Sillinger has 2 goals in 40 games this year. They might be okay letting him go. Plus, they have Kent Johnson at C as well, and could have Horvat-Johnson-Roslovic-Jenner down the middle.
  12. I believe they're looking for young NHL players in or just out of their ELC, who may benefit from a new opportunity. Canucks will need a C, with Horvat leaving. Guesses: CBJ - (C) Sillinger CAR - (C) Kotkaniemi DET - (C/LW) Rasmussen or (C) Veleno
  13. I think Miller might appreciate Tocchet's desire to win and the style of game he might have them play. Boeser on the other hand I'm not sure about.
  14. No we don't. Hiring a new Coach will cost the owner, and so will buying out a player this offseason. JR had seen enough (a year) watching Boudreau to know he was out of answers and the team wasn't responding. Boudreau wasn't their hire either, so naturally they want to get their guys to coach. The owner wants a winning team and specifically hired JR to run the team. This is JR's decision. He's trying to win games.
  15. The Flyers were a big, mean bunch back in the day. The Broad Street Bullies. Surprised me to learn that Tocchet holds the all-time record in Gordie Howe Hat Tricks for the Flyers and the NHL (18). The guy used to produce and kick butt on a regular basis, and I'm really hoping he can instill more of that in the team. They don't necessarily have to fight, but they can be aggressive and physical, relentless. He's also won Cups, as a player and coach. He knows what it takes. I hate to see Bruce go, but I'm happy that he can get off this disaster of a rollercoaster and enjoy his family, maybe find another coaching job. He was put in an unfair spot when he was hired, and he's been positive and kind the whole way. I wish him the best.
  16. I love that, and I hope JR also goes out and gets some players with some grit who can play. Maybe Tocchet will get more out of Joshua and Lazar.
  17. Apparently Tocchet is bringing a couple of assistants with him, I wonder who that could be? Does that mean Cull and King are gone too? The D and special teams needs some help, so hopefully they get better coaching. Play time is over at this country club. Will Petey and Quinn excel or want out? Will OEL give up hockey? So many questions.
  18. Bringing in Tocchet is one thing, but also, bringing in the players from trades. Will those guys help the team? The Canucks are going to try and win every game, that's what pro athletes do. I don't think GMs care about a draft pick position as much as the fans do. Winning is the only goal. If they bring in Tocchet and a couple of good, young players from trades and Demko comes back and suddenly the Canucks are winning some games, that'll just get me excited for next season. The 1st overall is anyone's guess. Canucks need some major luck with that. Finishing last doesn't guarantee Bedard.
  19. I like realistic proposals, and I like these trades! Bringing in Necas, Morrow, Dellandrea and a couple of 2nds would be great.
  20. Luck will either be on the Canucks' side at the Draft Lottery or it won't. It hasn't been kind to the Canucks, ever. They might not get Bedard, but there will be a lot of good players in the Top 10. Just feels like the Canucks have taken all they can, the negative stories over the years, never winning a championship or even having a 1st overall in 52 years or however long it's been now, the terrible seasons, topped by this one. An all-time low, or close to it. If there are Hockey Gods, I wish they'd pay some attention to the Canucks and help them out. To the south of us is Wright and Beniers. To the east is McDavid and Draisaitl. C'mon Hockey Gods....the Canucks need Bedard.
  21. I agree, I wish they'd wait and let Bruce finish the season.
  22. Would you prefer to keep Bruce and continue on this road of mediocrity? Canucks aren't getting Trotz, it's never going to happen. So, who else do you have in mind? I think I heard Frank Seravalli comment on Tocchet the other day and he went on to say the guy lives hockey 24/7 and as a coach wants to get to know every player and what makes them tick. Doesn't sound so bad. Forget what he did in ARI, that team has always sucked. I'm just relieved it's not Babcock.
  23. I just hope it isn't BOS I'd be okay with: NJ - won't get Nemec or L. Hughes CBJ - won't get Jiricek or Johnson DET - won't get Edvinsson or Seider CAR - I think Kotkaniemi comes back, though
