  1. Currently reading Malcolm Gladwell's books. I've read Outliers and I'm now reading Blink, have really enjoyed both so far. Anybody else read them?
  2. I'd photoshop Martin's face on there if I had photoshop and knew how to use it. Also, trust Smoak to kill a buzz. Him and Upton have a real knack for it.
  3. Still young, but he can hit. Lots of guys can hit at the A levels but can't translate it as they progress. We'll see if he can keep hitting as he advances. From what I've seen he can play defence too.
  4. The most beautiful swing I've seen in my lifetime. Robinson cano isn't too far behind.
  5. Jose made some marked and noticeable changes in his swing/approach when you look at his swing pre 2010. Plus he really started hitting bombs at the end of 09, so I don't think he started juicing mid season. There wouldn't be much point as he wouldn't be working out all that hard. His hands got up a bit higher to generate more backspin and a better launch angle, and more importantly, he started getting his foot down sooner. He saw pitches better and can barrel up more consistently doing that.
  6. I think I'm in the minority but I like A-Rod. I haven't always, but some time over the last 5 or so years I grew to like him. IMO, one of the best hitters to watch over the past decade or two. Beautiful swing and tremendous power to all 3 parts of the field. Living in the shadow of Jeter didn't really help his perception amongst fans and he didn't do much to help himself either, being so withdrawn for many years. All we can do is speculate and base opinions off of the little snippets we do get to see but I don't think he's really a bad guy. I think he lacks the charisma and charm that Jeter had to endear himself to fans. Propped up literally beside Jeter (SS/3B) he always seemed less likeable. I'll miss A-Rod when he goes. One of the greatest of all time, especially of his time. Edit: should mention, A-Rod was a better shortstop than Jeter when he arrived in New York.
  7. I think you're right but it could be a little sweetener for him. Who knows, maybe having an old friend around helps Tulo find his old form too.
  8. Yeah that's a fair enough argument. I guess Joe Mauer wasn't above moving to first so Longo shouldn't be either. Also of note- longoria and Tulo formed the left side of the infield together during their time at LBSU. That could entice him, I'm pretty sure him and Tulo are good buddies.
  9. I don't know about putting a former gold glover at 1st. What about putting him in RF? That's a common spot for a third basemen to move- Bautista did it himself. Alex Gordon did it moving to left and won a gold glove out there.
  10. I still squat and/or deadlift 3 times per week but I like to do other things to supplement the core training. L sits have become a project of sorts for me with the goal being to hold one for a minute or longer.
  11. Yeah, sucks to be them. We all thought A-Rod was getting s good deal...
  12. Sportsnet said that because he's not medically cleared to play and not actually retiring, he'll still receive the remainder of what's owed to him.
  13. You did them from a bar? I was doing that to start, I've since moved on to doing them on the floor as I find it harder. I was able to hold an L sit for a minute hanging from a bar but the best I've done on the floor is 32 seconds, which is why I posted the question. I was wondering if anybody had tips on how to improve as I seemed to have plateaued. I want to be able to hold an L sit for a minute on the ground (at least) before moving on to V sits. the fact I struggle so much more on the ground says to me it's something other than core strength- likely something to do with the muscles used to hold myself off the ground.
  14. Yeah. I've been doing em for a month, maybe month and a half now and it's been awesome. I'd highly recommend it. There's progressions you can find on google but I just started by doing hanging L sits from a pull-up bar.
  15. ST nailed most of it. Also, if you look at him now compared to when he was winning those Cy Youngs he just doesn't have what he used to. The fastball has lost life, in terms of velocity and the movement he used to be able to generate. When I watch him pitch now his fastball looks flat and he has trouble spotting up more often than not. Lotta flat fastballs sitting up in the zone. Honestly I think he'd struggle to get through a good college lineup for 7 innings at this point. There's a thread on reddit about him, apparently some research was done and most of his problems actually come with runners on base. He can get outs just fine when he's in the wind-up but all of a sudden it turns to batting practice when he's pitching from the stretch.
  16. Are squats okay in converse provided you have the ankle and overall mobility to do them? Also what's the downside to squatting in soft-soled shoes? I know you lose some power, but does it cause any problems ergonomically or anything?
  17. I saw the highlights of that, bad error by Barney but a great pick and tag on that play at third to pick himself up. What did JD do to Pulis though?
  18. Yeah, the Chucks. I see a few guys wearing them. I've always been skeptical but my trainer in college didn't have any objections to them so I figured they couldn't be too bad.
  19. What's your take on people wearing converse/canvas shoes at the gym?
  20. Well Herrerra could probably still hurt you with the change up and unfortunately I didn't see the 9th inning, had to pop out- what happened?
