  1. I think it was a change-up from looking at the grip. Seems odd he'd miss by that much (Perez set up away) but it's very unlikely he'd opt for a change-up if he wanted to throw at JD.
  2. If you're using them almost exclusively for weight training I'd say buy a pair of lifting shoes.
  3. Yeah, I don't fault him on the home run. It wasn't the worst pitch ever, and how often do you see hitters sitting on a slider 2-0? Maybe he's been throwing it in those counts all game hence Orlando sitting on it, can't say I've noticed. Oh well, he's not here to win a Cy young anyway. If he can win games that's all that matters.
  4. 15 or less and you're doing just fine. At this pace he'll be able to give them 6-7 good innings which is more than enough.
  5. I missed the first inning but he's looked good in the 2.2 innings I've watched. He's locating his fastball with some velocity and his slider looks sharp.
  6. Most of those types that I've come across also tend to be self-centred a-holes. I don't care to see 8 figures in my bank account (before the decimal, of course), I just want to have enough to live a comfortable lifestyle and do the things I want. I'm okay with that. Should I come upon a big sum of money I'll obvious take it and run, but I'm not going to run myself into the ground and let life pass me by just so I can drive a Lamborghini.
  7. Maybe the particular job they're working isn't primarily motivated by money but I think, for most people, working itself is. If I were to win the lottery and have enough to never work again I'd still work part time (for a few reasons, mostly for something to do) but there's no way I'd be working 40+ hours per week. I'd be out pursuing other interests.
  8. Once the playoffs come around, don't we kinda hope a long man isn't needed? Ideal scenario: starter shoves for 7+ innings, osuna/grille/Benoit does the rest
  9. I think it's a bit of a high-risk/high-reward move. I'm not sure how I feel about having the contracts of Liriano and Upton on the books for next year when they need to re-sign EE and Saunders. I've already figured JB is gone, and the sensible side of me figures EE will be too. I dont think he (Liriano) could simply "lose it" at his age after years of sustained success, like Zaun has suggested, but it remains to be seen. From what I can remember he doesn't really have a ++ out pitch like most great relievers do, he just has some good-but-not-great stuff that he can move around and change speeds on to get hitters out.
  10. I like that attitude. It remains to be seen if he can establish himself as a viable option, whether it be as a starter or a reliever, but he could be handy. I'm optimistic about Liriano myself after watching him be very effective for so many years. Can't wait to watch him later today.
  11. To be fair, I'm 23 and I still find fax technology pretty mind-blowing.
  12. I hope they wouldn't but maybe his innings count gets high or his velo starts to drop.
  13. I agree 100%. Even if Stro can reclaim some of his magic then a rotation of Estrada/Happ/Stro looks great too, and a bullpen of Sanchez, osuna, Grille, and Benoit (with how he's done so far) could be lights out. They need a lefty there though, hopefully Cecil can do that.
  14. I'm curious to see if Sanchez remains in the rotation for the playoffs though. If he does, it makes for a dam formidable rotation.
  15. Yeah he's quickly becoming my least favourite Jay to watch hit. He's closing in on Smoak. We need the Upton of playoffs past. also, Smoak is white-hot right now. http://m.mlb.com/player/475253/justin-smoak Luckily he fanned on yet another pitch, distracting the catcher and allowing for a passed ball. Just like they drew it up.
  16. I can't remember exactly when the tournament is but I believe he'll be back in school by that time. American schools start sooner, sometimes in mid-August.
  17. Gotta love Bobby Lou. also, 7 K's through 4?! This isn't nasty stuff either. Just some bad hitting.
  18. Yeah, unfortunately his OBP was crap compared to his BA. I've noticed that it's gotten better lately though and the spread between his OBP and BA is at a more acceptable level whereas before the two were pretty much identical. Just checked actually and it's at .292, coulda sworn t was higher the other day. Nonetheless he's still only 26/27 and lots of players improve right through their late 20's- JD, EE, and JB can all attest to that. It's not unreasonable to think Pillar could improve hat OBP to the 340-350 area. They should get JB to show him a thing or two.
  19. Yeah, the ball really jumps off his bat. I don't know the exit velocity numbers on him (not sure if it'll load on mobile either) but he hits the ball about as hard as anybody on the team. His swing is also very level and line drive-focused. If he gets his hands up a little higher and starts generating some more backspin he could launch a few more homers. Like you said too, his approach is trash much more often than not too. He's easily the most frustrating hitter on the team to watch IMO, though Upton might take that title from him at some point. There's loads of potential on Pillar. He could make an excellent lead off or #2 hitter with some fine tuning. Runs well, handles the bat pretty well, etc etc. Just doesn't walk or minimize strikeouts enough to be in that role yet or be trusted to execute a hit and run consistently.
  20. @RUPERTKBD I've missed bits and pieces of the games recently but the approaches have been terrible. I think Musgrove pitched pretty well but the Jays made him look better. Pretty much to a man their approaches have been awful and there's been zero adjustments from what I've seen. Gattis was looking terrible earlier in the series, wore the sombrero (maybe even golden sombrero) one game and then shortened up and had that little RBI Texas leaguer you mentioned, something we haven't seen from the Jays. Two home runs last night but they were both solo shots so how much good does that do when you're not manufacturing any runs? Game 1 against Baltimore they had some great at bats and managed to score runs without the long ball and it's pretty much dried up since. Side note, I saw Pillar was up to 26 doubles on the year after this two double game against Baltimore- just doing s rough estimate off the top of my head that should put him around 35 doubles by the end of the year, possibly more if he gets hot. That's nothing to scoff at and a pretty good indicator that he's learning to drive the ball. There's some power potential in him that's yet to be discovered, evidenced by some of the home runs he hits. Edwin hit something like 40-45 doubles the year before he really broke out (was it 2010? 2011?). I think Buck (or was it Tabby?) may be on to something when they said Pillar will hit 20+ home runs some day.
