  1. lol- "...he likes to get them with that front-door cutter, if you will. Try to get them to freeze. And there it is" Aaaaand it's crushed for a double.
  2. Tough error by an otherwise rock-solid shortstop. Could've got Dickey out of it, but he put himself in that big hole after a crap third inning as well.
  3. Ah, I took it as Gose was somehow in the return for Wells. Gose was a disappointment anyway.
  4. Doesn't make a ton of sense. Why would they want to add more offence when their pitching is average at best? I guess they might feel it's addition by subtraction for their pitching staff.
  5. Exactly. Collectively, humans are evolving into better and better athletes. Fastballs today are, on average, much faster than they were 40 years ago. It's same reason I think somebody will be killed by a big hit in the NFL at some point too.
  6. Well humans aren't really physiologically designed to perform overhead movements well, and anything over 90 MPH is considered a near certainty to eventually cause an injury, so in a way we've already surpassed what's supposed to be "possible". I think it's just going to get faster and faster. The way humans are evolving- we're bigger, stronger, and we're learning so much more about training and development and whatnot. I think at some point, maybe not so far down the road, the majority of big league pitchers will be sitting in the mid-upper 90's.
  7. This is what I'm thinking too, but the way I see it the Jays are built to win this year and Cecil isn't helping them to do that as it stands right now.
  8. I'm just waiting for the day somebody is killed by a fastball to the head. The way pitchers are progressing it seems inevitable.
  9. Overall I agree with your post but I'd like to point out that Boeser continued to put up great numbers when Caggiuls and Schmaltz went down, numbers that were as good or even better I believe (can't really remember). That's something to consider. I'd still take KC over Boeser for the speed and the fact he plays center though.
  10. The reasons for this have been discussed ad nauseam earlier in the thread. As much as it sucks for the Jays fans it's not totally unreasonable.
  11. Yeah steroids are super prevalent st the junior college level especially. Testing is pretty lax, only 3 guys tested at random each month so it's possible you can go 2 years at Juco and never take a test. Steroids are getting more and more common here in Canada too. When I was playing high school baseball in the PBL (you're familiar with it) about 5-7 years ago now there was some guys juicing. At least three I played with. It's kind of sad, really.
  12. Well added strength could help him st the plate in a lot of ways. Increased bat speed would allow him to get the barrel to the ball more often, ground ball outs suddenly have eyes and make their way through infield, jam shots turn into blooper singles, fly ball outs become doubles and home runs, etc. I think the increased bat speed would be a big one though. Ultimately you still have to be able to hit, the steroids and their benefits just make it easier to do that. I played with plenty of guys that juiced- some of them saw major improvements, others saw minimal.
  13. I thought so too but we could be wrong. There are steroids that don't make drastic changes to your body but can to your performance. Primobolan (what A-Rod took) doesn't make huge aesthetic changes, for example.
  14. I'd bet he was juicing last year, or did at some point prior to the season. It just seems a little far fetched that a guy would jump from Indy ball to hitting well over .300 in the bigs at that age.
  15. Cool story I came across last night, thought you guys might be interested: http://www.si.com/vault/2013/04/01/106303842/the-best-player-you-never-saw
  16. Ah ok, that makes sense. I really hope he would've put Zeke in had he been available. It just seemed like such an obvious bunt situation, especially with Travis (I believe) up next- a guy who will put the ball in play. I like Lake. He's toolsy as can be and there's a lot of potential there but you've got to be able to execute- something the Jays haven't done terribly well the last couple of years.
  17. Yeah I'm not sure what Gibby was thinking there. Maybe it was the lefty/lefty matchup? It's tough to say. I don't get why the bunt wasn't still on with 1 strike either. As for Lake, I hate seeing guys square that late in a sacrifice situation. Just about everybody in the park knew he was going to bunt- you may as well square up and make sure you get it down.
  18. It looked like Lake was trying to bunt for a hit, and I'm not sure why the bunt wasn't on with 1 strike. It's not like they had Donaldson at the plate or anything. That was a tough AB to watch.
  19. Tough to say. Some guys are just genetic freaks and I think him and Stanton fall into that group. Stanton is an absolute specimen. and what about Russell the Muscle! No kidding right? He reminds me of that kid in your first grade class that did nothing but piss he teacher off.
  20. Stroman as well. Though I think that was for a substance to enhance focus, not steroids.
