  1. Didn't Ricky Romero get released by SF? Screw it, give him a try.
  2. No chance we sign baerschi. Just like we didn't sign subban.
  3. Yeah pitching is definitely the need. The offence has slowed down but it's still more than adequate. what I was really getting at with that question was, do you guys think it's worth it? The farm has been depleted severely by the mets and marlins deals, leaving the jays with a fairly empty cupboard. IMO the jays are multiple quality arms away from being a real contender but I'm not sure they have the expendable assets. There's Norris and Hoffman (two best pitching prospects left) and then EE. If they can trade Edwin for an arm that would be ideal, cause for me I don't like the thought of losing the best remaining pitching prospects. How about dickey for d'arnaud and syndergaard? That would be sweet.
  4. What are everybody's thoughts on a deadline acquisition? I'm starting to think the jays are in a similar position as the canucks where even if they make some trades they're a good-but-not-great team that isn't a real contender and shouldn't risk mortgaging the future. That being said, I think AA feels the heat to make some moves. His job with the organization may depend on it.
  5. To me, it feels like this is what they've been since Doc left. They gave it a run when they signed Burnett et al and it didn't work. Since then they've been a middling/mediocre team.
  6. One mistake doesn't necessarily lose a game, but there are mistakes that are a hell of a lot worse than others. Two errors on two routine, routine plays in those situations is inexcusable. There's no other way to cut it. I take it you didn't watch those games but yeah, they kinda did lose the game. And yeah his offense is great but when you play a defensively premium position like short you've gotta play defense too. If your team is weak defensively down the middle you're not gonna be a very good team. His footwork is the sh*ts, he never has his feet under him. But sadly that wasn't even the case in those two instances, he simply came up early on two routine ground balls. High school level or major league that's just a lapse in focus. You said you play for north shore, so I'm assuming you know john haar. Come up early on a GB and he'll tear you a new one. Field from the ground up. It's simple.
  7. I know that, but he's making $22 million. Off the top of my head I can't think of a higher paid shortstop now that Hanley has moved to LF. And like I said, coming up early on the ball like that is a mental mistake. Players boot ball, bobble a transfer, whatever, but coming up early like that is simply a mental mistake and he's done that twice in a week now. You could make a very strong case for each of those errors losing the Jays those games. His defense has been barely passable for a MLB shortstop this year, let alone one being paid that much and by a team that has ambitions of the playoffs. It's just inexcusable to be making these mistakes, and the fact that he did it twice in a week makes it even worse. He's making a strong case to become a DH.
  8. He's still a great prospect and could be a big part of the team moving forward. He's working out some kinks after getting TJ. A fastball like his is pretty rare. It's still fun to go to the Nat and see them play but the team is pretty bad this year. I know a guy on the team from my playing days and he's already frustrated with the season.
  9. You forgot Hoffman. I saw Jon Harris (Jays 2015 first rounder) pitch last night for the Canadians and he got LIT.
  10. If they're trading a bat I'd hope it's Encarnacion. I do agree that Bautista needs to watch his mouth a bit, he seems to get tossed way more than the league average. And I'd say trade Reyes but it's tough to do that when you look at the money he's set to make these next couple years.
  11. it might be more frustrating to be a Jays fan than it is to be a Canucks fan

    2. Odd.

      Odd.

7 losses in their last 10 games.

yeah 2 championships, which the canucks don't have, but no playoffs in 21/22 years now?

Wilbur, I think what frutrates me the most (and I've said it countless times in the Jays thread), is that if they had never made the Mets/Marlins trades they would probably be a very good team in 2017ish. Especially the Mets trade. A future rotation/staff with some combination of Syndergaard, Sanchez, Stroman, Norris, Hoffman, and Nicolino (among others) would be great. A lineup of Pompe...

and one month later...my frustrations have now been rectified.

  12. I think Zaun had a good point the other day when he said he wonders if Reyes' feet have slowed down too much to the point where they can't keep up with his still-great hands and, as a result, his footwork sucks (which it does). Most errors he's made this year, whether fielding or throwing, his footwork was poor.
  13. Exactly what Zaun said. Anybody who's played baseball understands the whole "showing up the ump" deal. If not for the ejection then nobody would've even noticed Bautista saying anything to him. Some umps, like NHL refs, just have too big of an ego and wanna make themselves noticeable. The way I see it, he depleted the farm system badly enough with the Mets/Marlins trades that at this point he may as well go ahead and ship out Norris + Hoffman and try to make a kick at the can here. If he gets into the playoffs you can probably justify his past moves, though the Dickey still will always suck.
  14. haha if you want to ruin your day then i'd encourage you to watch it. I confess, I'd give that poor dog all the treats in the world if I could.
  15. You don't know sadness til you've seen this. Breaks my little heart seeing this
  16. anddddd Reyes makes his second error of the game. How do you go wickets on that?!?! He just came up on the ball early, that's a mental mistake. Same thing he did against Chicago. I love what he can bring offensively but he is not a 22 million dollar shortstop...
  17. anybody else watching this game? 7 runs in the 6th so far and now they've batted around. hello offence, good to have you back.
  18. Yes he did. Buehrle is the model of consistency. Hard not to love the guy. With one more win this year that'll be fifteen straight years with 10 wins or more. Impressive to say the least. And it's been said a thousand and one times but he eats innings like nobody's business.
  19. I confess that I do not have herpes. Yet.
  20. Aniston? I listen to John Mayer. I know, that makes me a basic bro.
  21. Saw that. Any word on how long he's out? Tim and Sid were talking about the jays on their show. Not usually a big fan of them but they painted a pretty realistic picture. If the jays want to compete they'll need: 3 quality arms. One starter, one relief guy, and the third could be either but more likely a started. It's likely to cost Norris and Hoffman too. And... The offence to get hot again
  22. And in his defence I saw Erik karlsson leaving the Roxy with like 6 girls in tow after the heritage classic
