  1. Nice. I played my last year of PBL in 2011 (played for Delta then FV) before a few years of college. The scouting life would be fun but it's certainly not glamorous.
  2. Me. Can't stand that POS song and I'm a little mad at myself for recognizing it by name. And for those that liked the Zeppelin song I posted above, I'm assuming you'd probably like this one too.
  3. Great to see some fellow fans and players on these boards and glad to hear some of you are still playing the game in some form.
  4. Also, just curious, any of you ever play? If so, what level? Not trying to establish a pecking order or anything lol, but it;s not often you see baseball fans in Canada (assuming you're Canadian) that didn't play themselves.
  5. ^^^ Potentially. Luckily Delmon Young was taking all the way on that 3-0 pitch. That ball was begging to be hit 400+ feet. Edit: Love Pillar but a brutal play on what should've been a relatively harmless 2 out single just cost them the lead. Further edit: Now he makes a great catch to probably save a run. Good job minimizing.
  6. Man, could be a tough day for the Jays. W L ERA G GS SV IP H ER BB SO WHIP Last 7 Games 5 0 1.75 7 7 0 46.1 37 9 8 58 0.97
  7. I think (or hope ) he's learned his lesson after the Mets/Marlins deals. I'll be writing a strongly worded letter (yep, not an email) to AA if he goes and trades away more of the top young arms. What a day for Copeland haha. I can't find probable starters for the Rays series but hopefully they don't have Archer going for them.
  8. From what I remember there were analysts saying 2014 was a weak year, not to mention countless cdc'ers complaining we "tanked" in the wrong year. The point was, however, that if Virtanen reached a Shane Doan level it would be a great pick. The numbers, packaged together with the other things Doan brings/brought to the table, should speak for themselves.
  9. PC is a pretty "umbrella" term. Many people believe it's not PC to say Merry Christmas, but I have no issue with it and I'll continue to say it. I refuse to be told I'm a douchebag for saying it too.
  10. Absolutely. I don't know if it's them being better, the division being worse, or both but it's nice to see them in the hunt.
  11. Bases loaded no out and they don't get even one across. Could've won the game in the bottom of the 8th if they'd executed. But yeah, sometimes that doesn't happen and pitching needs to help you out (other times vice versa) and the bullpen didn't come through today.
  12. If I'm not mistaken 2014 was considered a weaker draft, but I digress. Here are Doan's numbers through the prime of his career: GP G A P PIM -- -- -- 2001-02 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 81 20 29 49 61 11 5 2 2 4 6 2002-03 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 82 21 37 58 86 3 -- -- -- -- -- 2003-04 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 79 27 41 68 47 -11 -- -- -- -- -- 2005-06 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 82 30 36 66 123 -9 -- -- -- -- -- 2006-07 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 73 27 28 55 73 -14 -- -- -- -- -- 2007-08 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 80 28 50 78 59 4 -- -- -- -- -- 2008-09 Phoenix Coyotes NHL 82 31 42 73 Some pretty dam good numbers if you ask me. Now here's the top 10 of his draft year (and I've included the 11th pick, Iginla, as well so nobody accuses me of a self-serving bias). 1 1 Ottawa Bryan Berard D Detroit Junior Red Wings [OHL] 619 76 247 323 500 2007-08 1 2 NY Islanders Wade Redden D Brandon Wheat Kings [WHL] 1023 109 348 457 665 2012-13 1 3 Los Angeles Aki-Petteri Berg D TPS Jrs. Looking at his numbers compared to the other 1st rounders of his draft class I'll take that and run. Through the prime of his career those were definitely numbers of a 1st line-caliber player and definitely not a bad pick at 7th. If Jake brings the other parts of Doan's game we should be thrilled to have him at 7th. If that's the case, my opinion won't change unless Nylander and Ehlers are competing for Art Ross trophies.
  13. Been into folkish rock lately... Not all of Zeppelin was folkish, yeah, but I'm digging this song lately.
  14. ^^ The MultiQuote feature...Use it. Love it.
  15. Absolutely. Anybody watch the Jays Connected pre-game? Talking about the All-Star Game format and how it determines home field advantage for the WS, and Cliff Floyd mentions the Blue Jays should be especially concerned with it and implied they're a WS contender. Yeah, the 10 game win streak is great, but can we call a team with this pitching staff a WS contender? Let's not get carried away. Imagine Dickey facing off with Bumgarner...
  16. I'm thinking it's a general consensus that CDC does, in fact, hate Gibby. For the record I also don't like Anthopolous though I do like some of his moves (Travis and Donaldson for example).
  17. Yeah I'm not saying that the other two didn't impressive years, I'm simply saying it's WAY too soon to really be making any real judgement. I would've liked to see Jake put up some better numbers and I don't think there's a CDC'er that wouldn't agree with that but I'm still a huge fan. And like others have mentioned, it's not simply the numbers he puts up in the NHL that will define him- it's the package he brings. We've bitched for years about the team being soft and taken flak from other fans around the league and even some of our own, having to hear things like the Sedin "Sisters" and whatnot. Just this past playoffs we watched the team get physically overmatched for more or less the whole series. Yes, if Jake is nothing more than a physical depth scorer than that would be pretty disappointing given his draft position but his skillset is too good for that IMO. He'll put it together. As somebody else mentioned earlier in the thread, it took Kesler a while to find it offensively. He was a great athlete and competitor for many years but lacked offensive prowess. Virtanen may follow a similar path but I think he'll find it sooner than Kes did and the ceiling is much higher IMO. Give him some time. If he can be like a 30ish goals/ 55ish points-per-year guy I'd be happy. Just me.
  18. How can you say it was proven already? None of Virt/Nylander/Ehlers have played in the NHL yet. Yes, Nylander had an impressive pro debut in the AHL and Ehlers again lit up the Q but ultimately this doesn't determine who will end up being the best pick. unfortunate typo but a laugh nonetheless.
  19. Yep. I'm enjoying the W's but will reserve absolutely judgement a little longer. Despite the recent improvements I still don't believe in the pitching staff.
  20. They have a pretty good lineup. I know it didn't work out before but this time around pitching really is the issue (most of the time) and that seems painfully obvious to me. Look at last year, they were competitive for the first couple months until the offence dried up. Winning with offence and average-at-best pitching isn't a sustainable way to win.
