  1. I've gotta agree with you there. I really liked Rasmus, it was fun to watch him hit when he got it going. At the same time, though, it was pretty dam frustrating to watch during some of his prolonged slumps. If you didn't like Pillar's attitude you must have questioned done the same with Rasmus'. Didn't he refuse to listen to the organization's hitting instructors, instead choosing to listen to his dad? I liked Rasmus a lot too but that's a bit ridiculous at the pro level.
  2. Can't disagree with you there. I'm a little biased as it's probably fairly apparent by this point that I'm a Pillar fan but I hope it works out. He's a great story and the kind of guy I'd like to see in a Jays uniform for years to come. These run-through-the-wall kinda guys are the guys that win games.
  3. If it's a one-off kind of thing I'm not concerned. Over the course of a 162 game season, players need some days off.
  4. Yeah I saw EE wasn't playing but was at the gym and didn't stop to read the subtitles or anything. Was there a reason stated for EE not being in the lineup? It can't be cause Gibby feels they need Smoak in the lineup. And for Pillar, like others have stated in the Virtanen and Mccann threads, he's relatively young and his attitude will likely adjust. I just like the fact that he's the type of guy who will run through the wall to make a play.
  5. haha fair enough then. anybody else that got the story wanna pm me? I don't want to pile on VTG lol
  6. JUST POST IT haha. The curiosity is getting to me but I don't wanna be the 38th guy to ask.
  7. I'm happy to see hitters be aggressive with RISP, the first pitch is often the best to hit even at the major league level. The approaches the hitters are taking are likely more on Brook Jacoby anyway. But yeah, if it's not working in a particular game then sometimes it's advisable to switch it up.
  8. My thoughts too. Hopefully dalton pompei pans out to be a solid every day major leaguer. He still has lots of time on his side.
  9. This is true. I was never a fan of Gose from the get-go and so far I'm happy with the Gose/Travis trade. Gose is having a great year so far though, so maybe I'll be eating my words before too long. This article makes me feel a hell of a lot better about the trade though. How about that Colon deal? http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-return-halladay-stack/
  10. Hadnt he already has a TJ surgery? I know plenty of pitchers make full recoveries from TJ nowadays but when dealing a guy like Doc I'd be looking for an almost sure thing with a healthier arm, sorta like how the mets got wheeler from San Fran for Beltran. Top prospect, healthy arm.
  11. Yeah I definitely don't hate that trade nearly as much as the Dickey deal. If Johnson had even been half of his old self it would've made it a lot better too, but he was awful as a Jay. Buehrle...I just love to watch him pitch. Can't help but admire a guy that can do what he does with a mid-80's fastball. Then again, Hechavarria has pretty much turned into what they'd hoped Reyes to be. And I'll admit I wasn't a fan of Alvarez as a Jay. The stuff was definitely there but he wasn't cutting it in the bigs at that point but stayed up anyways. Marisnick could be a boom-or-bust sort of guy too. All in all it wasn't a bad deal really, especially if Johnson had shown up. Buehrle has been the big piece to date, providing a great veteran presence and a ton of consistency since coming over.
  12. Looking back on it now, with Drabek's failure to develop they practically gave Doc away. Drabek was a good prospect but not quite blue-chip, and that's the return I would've liked for a pitcher like Doc. As for Ricky, I'd say he had already solidified himself as a number 2 in just about any reason in the year or so leading to his decline. A staff this year consisting of guys like Ricky, Drabek, Alvarez, Syndergaard, Hutch, Stroman...would've been young and pretty dam lethal
  13. God dammit I didn't know that. To be honest it breaks my little heart to see that. Ricky was blossoming into a helluva pitcher, he was almost verging on ace status before he lost it. Obviously I didn't know him personally but in interviews and whatnot he seemed like he wanted to get back to where he was, he almost seemed embarrassed of the way he'd fallen off. Used to love watching that man pitch. Great changeup. Nice smooth, repeatable delivery from the left side. What a shame.
  14. I'm still waiting for the day when the good version of this guy shows up again.
  15. Just like anything else, there's ways around this. Hahaha that's something that I'm kind of ashamed to say I'm dying to know. I've never spent much time on reddit but it sounds like a terrifying place.
  16. Well of course, but it was a seriously awkward situation but I felt bad for blaming it on the hearing-impaired. And while we all know that we all fart, it's still a little bit taboo to do in public.
  17. As important as high-end skill can be and the impact it can have, there wasn't nearly enough play in the dirty areas for Vancouver against Calgary. Gaunce can score in front of the net and plays well down low. IMO he gets forgotten about a little bit because of higher-skill prospects like Shink, Baerschi, and Virtanen but personally I'm excited for a meat-and-potatoes kinda guy like Gaunce.
  18. IMO the rotation was screwed before Stroman went down. It could look a lot better had Drabek panned out but oh well. Syndergaard and Alvarez would really help too. Like I said before, hindsight is 20/20 but god dam those trades suck.
  19. By age he's not that all that young but he hasn't played a whole lot in the show yet with only 117 and 326 at bats according to baseball-reference. It'll come.
  20. As was mentioned, he had a bad shoulder. If this is true, then I'm sure what we saw was his best effort. Based on all else we've seen from him there's no reason to think he would've mailed it in for the playoffs.
  21. Absolutely. Is it confirmed Dors was playing hurt? It wouldn't surprise me because he was a shadow of the player we saw in the regular season and in last year's playoffs with NYR. Despite what desiboy says, Dorsett was consistently one of the hardest working guys night in and night out all year, if the not the hardest working. He's the kind of guy that can show youngsters the type of effort and intensity that needs to be brought to each game. Desiboy just doesn't seem to actually like anybody.
  22. What makes you not a fan of Pillar? I've nothing but respect for the guy. Later round draft pick, product of a middle-of-the-road D2 program and he's simply got it done at every level he's played at. Plus he leaves it all on the field every day. What's not to love?
  23. Can the trolls at least give a little effort? This is just a sad, sad effort.
  24. If Anthopolous was smart he wouldn't have sold the farm for all these over the hill vets. Sure, hindsight is 20/20 but I hated the trade at the time too. Syndergaard and d'Arnaud would be huge pieces for the team, and at the time of the trade I believe they were the #3 and #7 prospects in baseball with d'Arnaud being not that far removed from his time as the #1 prospect in baseball. Throw in what appears to be a solid young SS in Hechavarria (who's really settling in nicely), an OF prospect with tantalizing tools in Marisnick, and a decent young pitcher in Alvarez and those trades are awful. Admittedly I didn't like Alvarez in his Jays tenure but he was young and gifted (didn't he hit 100MPH in the minor leagues not long before making his MLB debut?) and was an all-star last year. Really, the only decent part of the return was MB who this year doesn't seem the be the same (his WHIP is pushing 2 through his first 5 starts). Reyes has been solid when healthy, but hasn't been healthy nearly enough. I know the trades didn't totally deplete the farm system but they gave up some of their prospects. Personally I liked Syndergaard more than Sanchez. He's a horse. Between him, Wheeler, and Harvey the Mets could have a scary rotation down the road.
