The other day on the bus (in Surrey), I farted a silent but deadly fart. The people around me freaked, one lady even gagged (seriously melodramatic IMO). With no other options at my disposal, I joined in on the charade and plugged my nose while I also pretending to seek out the culprit. I very astutely noticed the man beside me was deaf and had remained somewhat unaffected by my flatulence so, naturally, I blamed it on him. Not my finest moment but it saved me a hell of a lot of embarrassment.

[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

and he does it again! great catch at the wall to take extra bases away for jason kipnis. -
You said he won't be a regular, which to me implies you think he'll be a fringe player at best. On recent Canuck rosters, I'd group guys like Dalpe, Oreskovich, etc. in that group. You really don't think he'll be better than those guys? I do.

no no don't pm, share for the rest of us.
-
How can you harp on him for having a crystal ball when you're pigeon-holing Gaunce as well? Hypocritical if you ask me
-
Later round picks yes, it's possible, but the odds still aren't in our favor. Give Baerschi a full year in the NHL before you write him off.
-
I said that meaning I'm happy with the return on the 2nd rounder, probably happier than I'd be with a lot of what would be available at 53rd overall.
-
At least Sven is a tangible return. Yeah it's a good draft but this notion some people have that a 2nd rounder is gold is outrageous. If we drafted Sven with that pick, you'd probably be over the moon about it.

^^^ yes. There's plenty of players who add tools to their repertoire and and remove others while they're still young. The talent in JV is undeniable and IMO anybody who says otherwise doesn't know nearly enough about him. He was a high draft pick, yes, but in a relatively weaker draft year. He's not a can't-miss generational talent, but he's highly gifted in his own right. Like almost any prospect, how he addresses his deficiencies, utilizes his strengths, and rounds out the mental side of his game is going to dictate his level of success. All the tools are there to be an outstanding player, we just have to hope management and Jake himself do a good job of maximizing his gifts.

Also, don't desiboy and Z Kassian kinda fall in that school of thought? That's the impression I get.

In the link I posted a few comments above there. Fittingly, it's from an Edmonton newspaper lol.

I'd love to see Richie resigned. Isn't he the only guy on the roster with a ring? I'll admit I wasn't overly excited about the signing a couple years ago, after all he couldn't even crack their lineup, but he's quickly become one of my favourite Canucks. He competes as hard as anybody in the league, plays hard for every inch of ice out there, he's a good leader, etc etc. Plus he beat the crap outta Stajan the other day. If the money and cap situation makes sense, I'd love to see him back. I really like Higgins too but I think we might see him go this summer. He's a tremendous third line player, penalty killer, and leader but we need to open some room. IMO Matthias is more expendable simply because somebody will likely offer him a contract too rich for us to match. The size and goal scoring production is going to be pretty alluring for teams . That being said, Baerschi as the 2LW and Higgy as the 3LW sounds pretty dam good to me.

What kind of lifter are you? Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, etc... The part I bolded may be your issue. The biceps and triceps are very small muscles and don't require the same work that larger groups like legs and back do. When do you work your arms right now? Say, bis after back + tris after chest or on an entirely separate day? If you're trying to bulk, which it sounds like you are, stick to compound movements rather than isolation movements (i.e: curls). Training the sh*t out of your chest and back will land you gains in your arms too. If you do choose to do arms as well (we all do), don't overdo it. More does not necessarily equal more. As an example...say you're doing chest and tris one day: Assuming you've done a fairly typical chest workout, I would recommend doing no more than 3-4 sets of triceps exercises afterwards . Actually, I'd say do them on a different day altogether, but even then you have to keep the sets in moderation. I'd say 6-8 sets, given that you're already putting quite a bit of strain on the arm muscles when doing chest/back. This is a really common mistake in just about any gym you can step into, it's very easy to overtrain.

http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2014/05/01/scouting-report-top-10-prospect-jake-virtanen-might-be-viable-option-if-oilers-trade-down/ I just had to share this once I read the part where he listed jakes skating as his biggest weakness.
-
That was why he was shipped out of Philly but I haven't heard anything about that since those days. He was relatively young but seems to have outgrown that. On the ice Carter competes as hard as anybody and earned himself a spot on what some argue was the greatest team ever assembled at last year's Olympics. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Unnamed-Flyers-blame-Dry-Island-partying-for-?urn=nhl-wp9667

In terms of the perceived ego, I don't think that'll be an issue once he hits pro hockey. If he's in a locker room with our current vets day in and day out, I'd be more than willing to bet that guys like Bieksa, henrik, daniel, etc. would straighten that out. The natural way of team sports is that rookies are often told to keep their heads down and just go about their business. Vancouver has a good locker room going, they'll keep it that way.
-
Yeah, that's more or less what I was thinking for the similarities. As for the midfield comment, I was being facetious

Halifax was a .500 team this year that lost Drouin, traded Fucale, and finished 25 points behind their division's leader. Quebec, Moncton, Rimouski, etc have better chances.

^^, well said sting Am I wrong in saying that his offensive game is somewhat similar to Kesler's? Admittedly that's a bit of a lazy comparison to just use a former Canuck, but to me it holds some weight. They're both a good size, skate well, have great shots, play very much north-south, etc etc. Jake seems to be more pass-oriented now, and I like his hands better than Kes' at the same age. If he could end up like a more offensively-dynamic Kesler, I'd be thrilled. And yes, I'm well aware that Kes is a center while Jake plays midfield or something like that.

See, I thought each league had their own import draft but this makes more sense.

Thanks a lot avelanch, very informative. Gold star for you my friend.

That's what I'm dying to know. The ref seemed pretty quick to toss him so he must have said something pretty offside/inappropriate. While I acknowledge it wasn't the most tasteful thing to do, I'd love to hear what he said. The dude is pretty sharp, I'd be willing to bet it was at least a little funny.
-
haha yeah, i was just about to say- I don't know who has his rights but it must be a WHL team since he's from Saints Diago. Saw people in another thread talking about non-Canadian players being able to choose which league they play in? e.g: Europeans choosing which import draft they enter..is this true?
-
If Horvat continues on his development curve I can see him being a first liner if he has the right wingers, two offensively inclined guys. I wouldn't be surprised if he hit the 70 point mark at some point in his career, say with virtanen and baerschi on his wings?

From reading it that's exactly what I took from it, especially the part where he mentions a vancouver team full of canucks prospects. Maybe I'm reading it terribly wrong but that seems what he meant to me. And I don't mean it as in the canucks are signing 13 year olds, I meant it was similar in the way the organization has total control over the player. Bottom line, it was a purely hypothetical suggestion (it seems) so there's no need to shoot it down with so much disdain Elvis.
