Was involved in hazing Aliu while playing for (I believe) the Windsor Spitfires. One incident involving the rookies being forced naked into the bus’ bathroom then running through the gauntlet of belt lashes up the aisle. I think Aliu refused to participate which led to some tension between him and the vets, culminating in a fight between him and Downie. Think Downie may have given him a cross check to the chops at practice or something like that. Downie was a first round pick and a fan favourite while Aliu was just a rookie, so fans took Downie’s side. Sportsnet ran a good piece on it maybe about a year ago.

Keefe was Dubas’ guy in SSM and I believe Dubas is the one who hired him to coach the Marlies too. Dubas has been waiting to make this move since day one. As much as I think Babs is overrated, I think this mess still falls on Dubas. A couple years ago Babs coached the Leafs (minus Tavares) to a 100+ point season. Dubas has depleted the depth through massive contracts to four forwards, somehow made their defence worse, and failed to find a backup goalie.

Wasn’t Miller traded to STL for a first round pick? And Lehner to Buffalo?

He used to chirp his fellow pitchers in Pittsburgh for “only” throwing 95. -

I’d wager that the strike two call to Zimmerman was the ump giving him the bird for showing him up on the first strike. -

Meh, that happens. I didn’t know anything about her until today but her academic accomplishments in particular are impressive. it is cool to see Jimmy van Ostrand get a gig with the Jays. He’s an alumnus of the high school team I coach. His brother was a very good player too, may have played a bit of pro ball. -

I think they were pretty okay with losing him knowing they had Soto waiting in the wings. I think what makes Harper “worth it” is the name brand. He’s very productive but his numbers really aren’t exceptional. However, he does bring with him arguably the biggest name in baseball. He’s been touted as the next big thing since he was 15-16 years old, gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated. Just look at the jersey and ticket sale boost Philly saw when they signed him. You can argue that that alone makes him worth it. In a non-cap league, I think a richer team is happy to overpay him for the revenue boost they’ll see with him around. -
Okay, Save the Laffs..PLEASE!

I’m a little ashamed to admit that I probably get more upset about the Leafs winning a game than the Canucks losing one, as well as more pleasure from the Leafs losing than the Canucks winning. -

I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they missed the playoffs to be honest. Boston and Tampa Bay are virtual locks while Buffalo and Florida look to be much improved. Buffalo is leading the division but I expect they’ll end up behind Tampa and Boston while Florida is struggling a bit but I expect them to uptick over the season. Then in the metro you’ve got Pitt (injuries notwithstanding, you can never count them out), Philly should be solid, Carolina and Washington are good, and NYI could again be more than the sum of its parts with Trotz at the helm. Gun to my head I’d still say Toronto ends up making it but it might not be such a shoo-in if they don’t pick it up in the next couple of weeks. I read today that they’re something like 25-27-9 in the calendar year of 2019. I haven’t checked that but if true, that’s a seriously alarming record over a considerable period of time. I know it’s been beaten to death but I think the criticisms of their roster hold serious merit. They’re soft up front, their D group is very underwhelming (Norris candidate or not, Reilly really has been bad in his own end this year), Barrie is a defensive liability who’s also not producing offensively, and their backup goalie can’t be relied upon. He’ll straight up lose them games over the course of the season. And to boot, their stars aren’t really playing well despite what their numbers say. Marner and Matthews have no showed multiple times this year. Tavares has been very underwhelming in more games than his price tag should warrant but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Little Willie Nylander has actually been the best and most consistently engaged of their big 4 forwards.
