[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

I think there's an argument to be made for him being a bounceback candidate- he slashed .274/.378/.597 back in 2021 while playing in the pitcher-friendly NL West (aside from Colorado of course). Bringing him to the AL East and its more hitter-friendly parks might see him find some return to form. It's a one year deal, so the risk is minimal. He's got a WS ring and from what I've read from Giants fans and writers, he's a fantastic leader and locker room presence. If I remember correctly he's always been a very good fielder too- with the shift being gone this should be even more important. The Jays have probably the best defensive OF in all of baseball to go with their pretty good IF- Belt helps improve that. I'm not sure would've been the next move I would've made if I were Shatkins but I like the acquisition myself. -
I believe he was drafted by the previous management regime (not the current group with Bill Guerin) so that might be part of it.

It's not fandom, it's Philly. Didn't Philly fans throw AA batteries at Santa one year? Can't remember if it was at an Eagles or Flyers game.

For reference, I believe LGJ was about a 2 WAR -

Absolutely elite outfielder in one of the toughest parks to play defence. The shift being gone should help his offensive numbers a bit. His BABIP is good and he plays a very, very good outfield. A 5 WAR while slashing roughly .230/.300/.400 or something like that just tells you how dam good he is defensively. -

Steve Cohen says he doesn’t care. We’re probably gonna hit a point where the payroll of the two New York teams matches that of like half of the league’s rosters combined. -
[Report] Canucks recall Lane Pederson

Or 10 games I think -
He was phenomenal. He had me all excited for future best-on-best events. As it stands right now we might be looking at Binnington (gross) or Jarry (the pride of Delta) to backstop Canada. Knowing that the Americans will have to pick only 3 of Demko, Gibson, Hellebuyck, Knight, and Oettinger sucks as a Canadian fan. The two goalies from that list who don't make Team USA would be locks for Canada.

I believe Makar said he wasn't at the event and that's been corroborated. If I'm not mistaken, he wasn't even in the country at the time. He's good. It's rumoured that at least one of the players involved is considered a "high profile player". The only players that really fit that description are Makar, Thomas, Kyrou, Hart, and maybe Batherson. Honourable mention to guys like Formenton, Comtois, and Dube.

Not that I know of. The way I look at it, if the Jays had signed Kikuchi this offseason to a deal equal to what remains on his (which I think is 2 years and $20 million) we'd probably call it a reasonable deal after seeing all the money spent on pitching so far this offseason. Syndergaard just got like $10 or 11 million for one year with the Dodgers and he's just a shadow of his former self. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Hold up. I was under the impression that Miller watching the other team go on a 2 on 1 resulting from his egregious turnover and yelling “F***!” as loud as possible as he glides to the bench was just solid leadership? Miller is the alpha male this team needs. Am I wrong? He sweats pure testosterone, eats nothing but cured meat, and wakes up every morning with an erection so glorious even King Midas would be envious. What am I missing here? -

Yeah, ideally he’s more of a 4th outfield/platoon guy. I like what he brings defensively. It would be nice if he stole more bags but he’s got good speed and he’s a good base runner nonetheless. If they could bring in a guy who’s more of an everyday player they’d be looking much better. -

There’s some rumours kicking around that the Jays might be looking at one of Arizona’s young outfielders. -

Jays get Bassitt. I like these numbers (only 3 years) considering what we’ve seen tossed around in free agency so far. With a rebound year from Barrios, this rotation could be pretty dam good. -
I believe the rumour is that it’s the estate tax Davis would pay upon the death of his 90+ year old mother would leave him short on cash.

Well I would say the way he's scoring goals isn't really a new thing. I imagine a heat map showing his goals would show that over the last 2 or 3 seasons he's scored most of his goals from within 10 feet of the net. He's not a "sniper" like he's often described as on here, and he hasn't been for a while. You rarely see him beat goalies with a clean 1on1 shooter vs goalie look. He's got a decent shot but a terribly slow release, which combined with his slow feet means he rarely finds or creates the space to use his shot. Part of the reason he plays net front when he's on the top PP unit is that he's realistically probably the 4th best option to play either half wall (Petey, Miller, Kuz). He's not a bad player but he is a player that's fairly easily replaced. He doesn't bring anything terribly unique to the mix and his cap hit is relatively large. You can't pay a player nearly $7M to score <20 goals and pick up secondary assists. At that price tag I'd expect somebody who, at the very least, could be a driver/impactful player on a third line (which he's not).

The entire purpose of the document that Doerrie tweeted last night is to paint Castonguay and her actions in the worst possible light. Of course Castonguay is going to look bad if you only read this one side of the story and accept is as absolute truth.
-
I imagine a big motivation for the Canucks to settle out of court would be an NDA. Now that Doerrie's put all these details out in public, why would they settle? They seem very confident in their categorical denial of Doerrie's allegations and she was only their employee for a few months so I don't think there's a massive severance involved.
-
I can't imagine Castonguay would have the ability to unilaterally fire Doerrie even if Doerrie was reporting to her. Assuming Doerrie's allegations are true, how did Castonguay go about persuading Rutherford, Allvin, and possibly Aqua to fire her? Should the Canucks versions of events be made public, they'll make for an interesting read.

I'm no soccer guy but I don't really get the criticism here. What's he supposed to say- "Yeah the Croatians are a much better team than us but hopefully we can keep it close"? Of course he's going to say something like this. If I were one of his players I'd be disappointed if he didn't.
