CBJ just named Jenner their captain with Davidson saying he is part of their fabric. They are also in a rebuild after trading Jones. Miller doesn't fit their timeline. -

Boston's priority this season was to find another top-4 LD - doesn't feel likely that they would move Carlo when they felt they needed more help on that side. -

The Canucks used LTIR to add Toffoli. Had the season resumed instead of the playoffs, they would have been well above the cap as everyone save for Leivo was ready to come off LTIR - even Ferland played in the bubble after spending nearly all season on LTIR. LTIR is minimum 10 games or 24 days. If a team abuses LTIR they face cap penalties or the forfeiture of draft picks. Vegas is going to have to prove that those players are really out long term. If any of them is ready to return they will have to activate them and find a way to create cap space. Vegas had real ambitions this season and aren't even in a playoff position. They probably would have been a better team with a healthy Stone. -

Post-game take Kane vs Hartman: -
The focus is on development. Anaheim are committed to a rebuild and must feel Eakins can help their young players take the next step. He initially got the position because of the work he did with their prospects down in San Diego. Anaheim in a similar situation as Detroit. Verbeek worked with Yzerman where they've retained Blashill despite a losing record - it's been about player progress and not the record with veterans no longer performing and prospects still needing more experience.

Not quite. Was changed in July 2020. The QO is equal to the last salary but at most 120% of the AAV. If a player's AAV is 6M and his last salary is 7M - his QO is 7M and not 7.2M. If a player's AAV is 6M but his last salary is 7.5M - his QO is capped at 7.2M. -

Or pay to again try and move Dadonov - likely going to cost them significantly more now. Guess need to wait till next season to know if that trade really made them better. -

They haven't really made room for Eichel yet - they've been swapping players on/off LTIR. For next season CapFriendly has them already at 83M with 19 players. -
Fitzgerald told LeBrun he's not interested in trading Severson - says RHDs don't grow on trees and that he's helping their team. NJD think they've been let down by goaltending and are better than their record. Can't see them interested in breaking up their D-corps unless a significant overpayment. Severson is also interested in extending in NJD per Friedman. Ottawa is apparently going to try hard to acquire Fiala - has even been scouted by Dorion himself. Don't see them bringing in 2 wingers. Not sure Fiala wants to sign there though or Boeser for that matter. Would be surprised if Boeser gets much of a return giving his QO unless the Canucks allow him to talk to teams before hand so they can agree on a reasonable extension.

Friedman says it's an evidence that Malkin will be extended - both sides want it and aren't at all worried about getting a deal done. Discussions with Letang have gotten off to a rough start per Friedman - he wants a 5 year deal (that brings him to 40) at above 7.5M. Hard to see any team offering him 5 years though. Carter was just extended for the next 2 seasons and was given a full NMC. -

Contenders are probably trading for him as a 1 year rental. His value to these teams was 2x playoffs runs where he provided significant surplus value for his cap hit. Won't necessarily be the case on his next deal. Wonder if he's not going to end up a bit in the Taylor Hall situation. Was asking the moon but never really got the deal he was hoping for in free agency. The contending teams already had their core identified ahead of him. A team like Philadelphia might be willing to offer the most - as a return + contract wise. Fletcher is under pressure to contend and they also want to shake up their team. -

Except Nashville are in a re-tool - Poile even initially called it a re-build. They traded away Ellis who was a top pairing D as well as Arvidsson for prospects/futures. He talked of how they weren't competitive enough to have such a veteran roster and have changed course with a focus on getting younger and building back up their prospect pool. They also felt that they had lost their way. Poile talked of how they relied too much on skills and whenever plays didn't got their way they quit, and needed to get back to being a hard working team that never gives up. -

Every game is watched live on multiple monitors and wide-screen TVs so they get every angle of every play. In any game there are about 30 to 60 incidents that get logged for further review. Russo has written articles on that after being allowed to sit in a few times. -

Every game is monitored live and they look at every significant event that happens in every game - it's nothing out of the ordinary. Dhaliwal is stating an evidence. That's how they also determine whether players need to go to the quiet room. Merkley didn't think the hit was dirty. -
Just want to know you guys' opinion about Canucks identity
mll replied to tan's topic in Canucks Talk
Quite a few teams refer to their identity and build accordingly. McLellan after Washington finally won a Cup listed being heavy and physical as one of the 5 key reasons they won. He talked of how a lot of teams went to speed and skill while they still believed in heavy. Armstrong in St Louis says he wants a heavy D-corps and compares it to playing through a car wash. Hynes just this week talked of their identity: That's our game," Preds Head Coach John Hynes said Tuesday night. "Our game is toughness, physicality and speed. We have it throughout the lineup, and it's really the fabric of our identity. So, if teams try to push us in those areas, we have very good power play that's been very good all year long. But I just like the push back in our team, and that's a big part of our identity. We've got a lot of sandpaper, we've got a lot of highly competitive guys, and I think the more intense the game gets, the better our team is. The more physical the game is, the better our team is, and I thought that was indicative tonight." On the Wild their GREEF line is also referred to as their identity line. That line sets the tone - hardworking, north-south, get to the net. Evason always complains when they play east-west. He even broke up their lines after an important win because he felt they were playing too cute when he wants straightforwardness: “You want to have your group playing with skill and creativity and trying stuff. You have to let them have some free rein, but you also have to remember who you are and what we do to have success. And that’s going straight, going north, getting pucks to the net and establishing our offensive-zone structure, which starts with shooting the puck and getting to the net and having a person at the net.” -

Speed is less and less of a separating factor - if all teams have speed, then it's no longer a unique asset but a requirement to just be able to keep up. Same with skills. Teams have different identities - defensive team, offensive team, rush team, cycle team, puck management team etc. I don't really see how you can lump a team like Vancouver in the same basket as NYI for example and it's not about roster construction. Trotz says he couldn't care less if opponents spend considerable time in NYI's end because they won't give them anything (- maybe not this season given their injuries but generally he hasn't been worried about staying in their own end and find the right breakout opportunity). Boudreau says his philosophy is why play in your own end if you don't have to and wants to break out as quickly as possible. Trotz talks of not wasting shots, he wants them to 1st try and create a high danger scoring opportunity and then take a shot. Quite a few other teams prefer the "get shots on net and good things will happen" approach. -
Can't see Nashville breaking up their D-corps. Poile always talks of how they build from the net out. Their focus is also speed and physicality - not exactly Boeser who has been particularly mediocre at EV.

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Spencer Martin
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
One-way or 2-way contract have no effect on waivers - it's a salary distinction. 1-way means that he gets the same salary in both leagues while a 2-way deal would have him earn a different salary in the minors. Martin was on a 2-way deal this season and went through waivers to be assigned to Abbotsford.
