  1. Dan Rosen tweeted that the Rangers specifically mentioned that it's not his head. Gallant hinting at a shoulder injury.
  2. Boldy is just as unlikely. Can't see the Wild being interested in Boeser either.
  3. You don't think they would have preferred if he continued playing? Their moves indicate that they were caught by surprise by him stepping away. He had 26 goals for them and they finished top of the West his last season. Toews and Kane were in year 2 of matching 10.5M x 8 year deals. That off-season, they had traded Panarin and Hjalmarsson in prevision of cap issues. His retirement precipitated their downfall and they've been spinning their wheels since. His skin was pealing off. He couldn't even hold his kids anymore and had to get his blood tested every 2 weeks because of the adverse effect of the medication he was taking. Not the 1st player to have a skin disorder appear out of nowhere that ended their careers. Hossa wanted to just walk away but Chicago convinced him to go on LTIR because of that recapture penalty. Gillis expected Luongo to end on LTIR but Florida convinced him to step away - preferable for them to have a 1.1M recapture penalty for the rest of his contract than operate in LTIR. Apparently also couldn't have worked for them if he went on LTIR.
  4. 3 games is a really small sample size. He has 6 NHL games in his entire career at 28. He had no pressure to perform with both goalies not available. Pressure/expectation is different if he is the designated backup. Would be a gamble and would be an indication that they aren't too concerned about taking a step back next season. The risk with a backup that can't keep up is that they overplay Demko.
  5. He's been on a medical leave of absence since late November - in his press release he mentions that he is stepping down to focus on his health and recovery. "Finally, I want to thank everyone who has reached out during my leave of absence. While I have made great progress over the last several months, I feel it is in the best interest of the organization and myself to step down from my current duties and focus on my health and full recovery. I look forward to continuing my career in the NHL in the future."
  6. Could also be about moving on. If they don't think a player fits the team and where they want to get at, they might prefer to move on to be able to start preparing for the future.
  7. Not the only team. LAK had a recapture penalty for Mike Richards + Florida also has their share of Luongo's recapture penalty on their books (circa 1.1M). Vancouver could have used a compliance buyout - NYR (Brad Richards) and Buffalo (Ehrhoff) went that route to avoid the recapture penalty risk.
  8. It's Rutherford that said his preference is to have fast skaters and thinks Vancouver are lacking. Also says that to chose between size or speed, his preference is speed.
  9. Except his retirement precipitated the Blackhawks' downfall and took them by surprise. He scored 26 goals his final season for them. Toews and Kane were only in year 2 of matching deals at a 10.5M AAV. They traded Panarin and Hjalmarsson in the off-season in prevision of cap issues. Had they known he wasn't going to be able to continue playing, they probably wouldn't have made those trades. The Blackhawks haven't made the playoffs since other than that bubble season at 24 teams. They really got no benefit from him not playing.
  10. Satiar Shah says that it's certain that Vancouver will make an offer to extend Miller but they have a number in mind and won't go beyond. He can't see them paying the Zibanejad deal. He believes their offer will start with a 7 over 6-7 years and overall value won't exceed 50M.
  11. Pittsburgh are looking to extend both Malkin and Letang and feel it's evident a deal would get done per Marek/Friedman. A few weeks ago they also said that discussions with Letang weren't going all that smoothly - he's looking at upwards of 7.5M on a 5 year deal which would bring him to 40. Patrick Johnson after his discussion with Allvin believes they'll do their possible to move Myers this off-season.
  12. In January Rutherford pointed out that they often played against backup goalies and not starters - ie he wasn't going to overvalue the results. Since the All-Star break they are 12-8-4 which is good for 17th in ppg over that stretch. They are 6-5-4 their last 15 games.
  13. Sharangovich has more goals at EV than Boeser - doesn't get the same PP opportunities and has just as many points on the season. That Sharangovich-Hughes-Mercer line has been so dynamic since assembled. Have a hard time thinking they would give up Sharangovich for someone that hasn't been any more productive than him this season. Their head of analytics Tyler Dellow mocked Benning for going after young players that other teams have given up on. Boeser's game is not where it needs to be and makes you wonder whether teams see him as an established player having a bad season or a young player that is struggling to take the next step.
  14. Players traded after the TDL can no longer play for the rest of the season - there's not much benefit to trade for him now.
  15. Doesn't work that way. The Canucks are operating in LTIR so they won't have any end of season cap space and their bonus will automatically roll over into next season. Each day a team's roster is under 81.5M, that cap space can be set aside - it gets banked. If a team is at 80.5M all season long they will have banked 1M in cap space by the end of the season. Bonuses come out of end of season cap space. When a team is in LTIR, they can't bank cap space because their LTIR contracts put them over the 81.5M cap. Regardless of how much cap space they have available they can't bank it. Vancouver's regular roster is currently some 4.2M below 81.5M but once they add their LTIR players (Ferland/Sutter/Keeper) they are exceeding the salary cap. Although they have 4.2M available, that cap space is forfeited. Without Ferland, Sutter, Keeper they would be 4.2M under the cap and they could have banked some 840K = 4.2M x 20% of the season left at the TDL. Instead they are forfeiting that cap space and can't use it to cover their bonuses. It's visible on CapFriendly where teams in LTIR don't have any end of season cap space. The few that do went into LTIR only later in the season and were able to bank cap space till then. Correct. 1st step is to get out of LTIR - Ferland, Sutter, Keeper is roughly 5.4M. They have 4.2M in cap space so technically they could take Ferland off LTIR but they would still be missing about 2M to completely come out of LTIR. Then they have to have extra space to be able to bank that cap space. At the TDL there's 20% of the season left, so after coming out of LTIR, they would have had to clear an additional 5M to bank 1M (= 5M x 20% of the season).
  16. There are 11 teams with coaches either named as interim or in the final year of their deals. Boudreau might get a longer commitment from one of those teams. Anaheim - Eakins Chicago - King Detroit - Blashill Dallas - Bowness Edmonton - Woodcroft Florida - Brunette Montreal - St-Louis Nashville - Hynes Philadelphia - Yeo Vancouver - Boudreau Winnipeg - Lowry
  17. For a while. Heading into the bubble tracking technology had them bottom-3 in preventing but also creating rush chances. Same for the following all Canadian division season. Continued this season under Green. Don't know where they rank under Boudreau.
  18. Can only move up 10 spots starting this draft - so only 11th and lower can move up to 1st.
  19. So why believe that it wouldn't be the same for other teams. They too have to manage their cap and might not want to have several 8M+ players either.
  20. He traded away Ellis and Arvidsson for futures and only gave Granlund and Ekholm 4 year deals. In his interviews when Poile doesn't want to answer a question he says so. Can't recall him giving a bogus answer for the sake of it. Guerin has said multiple times that the fanbase is too smart for him to lie to - not how you create trust. Guerin is in media so often and so far has stayed true to what he has disclosed.
  21. He signed Duchene, Josi long term thinking they would compete and it didn't happen so they changed course and decided to rebuild. Ellis got moved out so did Arvidsson. Ekholm only got a 4 year deal and so did Granlund - he didn't want to sign any vet to more than 4 years. Granlund even went to free agency before circling back. Ekholm and Granlund were signed to help transition to their younger players.
  22. Don't think Poile has any intention to retire - he seems to also be training his son to take over. Also can't imagine he would leave the franchise in a mess to serve his own ambition. Also he talked of a transition to get younger and himself says it's going to take time - they are doing better than expected but don't see him rushing things. “It did not appear to me that if we kept the same team we were going to get better. I’m very comfortable with the path I’ve chosen," Poile told The Tennessean in late August. "The path chosen is going to take some time to play out.”
  23. Miller looks to be the wrong age group for Nashville. Poile talks of them re-tooling to get younger. Their window will really open with their prospects taking the next step. They don't look to be the best trading partners. The Wild wouldn't have the cap space. Guerin has also said multiple times that he's not in the slightest interested in trading prospects or high draft picks they've worked hard to acquire. He talked of how those futures are essential to weather their 13-15M cap penalties over the next 3 seasons. The only reason he gave up the 2nd for Fleury is because they are getting a compensatory pick for not signing their 1st round pick in 2018 and another for the rights of McBain + they plan to extend him. Can't see the Stars being interested given they witnessed 1st hand how quick players can fall off a cliff with Benn and Seguin.
