[discussion] trading 2022 1st round pick
mll replied to Angry Goose's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Teams are likely more willing to move their 2022 pick especially if later in the 1st. Seravalli writes: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/seravalli-nhl-teams-are-asking-for-2023-draft-picks-over-2022/ "I think there’s a general feeling that the first round in 2022 isn’t especially exceptional outside of the lottery range. There has been a perception for some time that the top of the 2023 Draft is much more plentiful than the top of 2022 in terms of true difference makers." -

Tampa in 2020. They won with Mike Condon buried in the minors at a 1.3M residual cap hit - he was never recalled to the team. To avoid LTIR, Brisebois traded Callahan's 5.8M LTIR contract for Condon (2.4M cap hit). -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Was in December. Can't really see Rutherford coming out of retirement if he was not given full autonomy - especially when autonomy was apparently the reason he left Pittsburgh. Doesn't feel like the direction has changed. When Rutherford came on board he only knew what he could see on a screen from afar - he wasn't in the room, didn't know the dynamics behind the scene. There's also the analytic side and the prospect pool and their potential. He has more information available to get a better sense of what needs to change and who can be part of the future and map a timeline. Players aren't under team control indefinitely either and they also have to start building up playoff experience. MacLellan and Armstrong both cited having a core weathered by playoff experience as one of the 5 key reasons their teams finally won a Cup. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Taking on an LTIR contract doesn't create cap space. Lawson Crouse ended up in Arizona because Florida wanted to get rid of Bolland's LTIR contract. Crouse had been picked 11th overall just a year before. NJD got a 2nd round pick for taking on Marc Savard's LTIR contract. Ferland's contract isn't insured so it would likely cost quite a bit to move his contract out. Teams that want to reach the floor and/or have cap space are mostly in a rebuild and will be looking to get futures. Those who want to contend will want to avoid LTIR. -

Meier plays both sides. Them extending Hertl signals that they are looking to remain competitive, so can't really see them willing to move Meier unless he gives them no choice. He has a 10M qualifying offer next season. -

Not necessarily. Boudreau revealed that it wasn't his decision to scratch Hunt in the last game he coached in Minnesota or to demote Zucker to the 4th line - Guerin must have intervened. Before him, Fenton insisted that he play some players a certain number of minutes. -

Boston are unlikely to trade Carlo when they've been looking for another top-4 LD for so long - reason why they got Lindholm. They just gave up a 3rd round pick for Dermott. They enquired about Chychrun but they couldn't pay the cost. -

Would have been Dylan Guenther. There was a clear drop-off after a group of 9 players per scouts around the league. Benning also mentioned it to explain why he was so relieved they didn't drop out of the top-9 after the lottery as they were then assured to get one of those 9 players. The one left with the Vancouver pick at 9th was Guenther. -

There are only 4 regular recalls allowed after the TDL and they've already used 2 on Petan and Podkolzin who were papered down for the AHL playoffs. Lockwood is up on emergency basis and will have to return once they get a healthy forward back - Boudreau expects Dickinson to play next game. -
Rutherford says his preference is to over-rippen players in the AHL. I think that they also want to fix the structure on how players are developed and brought up to the team. Feels more likely that Karlsson would be spending time in the AHL to adjust. Not sure there will be that many players making the team before they become waiver eligible.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if Garland gets traded. His production has been mediocre for a 5M player. Boudreau refers to him as a 3rd liner. Don't think Podkolzin (who he also calls a 3rd liner) or Höglander are ready to play top-6. They probably should be in the AHL developing. Podkolzin never really had those big minutes in all situations - not even last year in the KHL. Not enough recall options right now but maybe that changes in the off-season.

[Signing] Wild re-sign Alex Goligoski
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
As a 3rd pairing D - Kulikov, Merrill and Goligoski alternating on the 3rd but Middleton might not quite be a regular top-4 either. Goligoski/Middleton might also alternate pairing up with Spurgeon based on the opponent. He turns 37 in July. It's somewhat surprising that they gave him 2 years when Russo has been talking about them being concerned with his age - he actually thought they were going to let him walk after extending Merrill. -
[Signing] Wild re-sign Alex Goligoski
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There's no way that they bring up Addison and keep him as a scratch - he is still waiver free for another season. Guerin has spoken multiple times against bringing up prospects to sit them and insists about the importance of development time in Iowa. With Kulikov, Merrill and now Goligoski signed through next season and Middleton likely extended as RFA - it feels likely that he will remain in the minors for another season. The Wild hardly ever go with a 23 player roster especially not at home. They've even been on the road with no extra forwards and a D had to play up front. Guerin wants to bank as much cap space as possible and Iowa is 3 hours away. On one of his podcast Russo talked about how he thinks Guerin will try to extend Dumba to a reasonable deal this summer - he's 1 year to UFA. The math just doesn't seem to work to keep Fiala. Russo believes that Fiala will be traded as he's priced himself out and there's apparently quite a bit of interest. They way he's telling fans to enjoy the Fiala-Boldy chemistry while it lasts makes you wonder if he hasn't received informal confirmation about it. They've traded for Fleury with the intent to extend him per Russo - which he thinks indicates even more that Fiala is going to be traded. -
[Signing] Wild re-sign Alex Goligoski
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's been healthy scratched their past 2 games. Since they've added Middleton, he's been dropped to their 3rd pairing. Now with 8 roster Ds, they've been alternatively scratching Kulikov (who hadn't missed a game till that point), Merrill and Goligoski - Benn is D8. Part is likely also to give him some rest. He's 36 and has been struggling the past few weeks given their schedule. The Wild had so many games to catch up with 40 games in 77 days after playing only 5 in 30 days with their opponents shutdown by Covid.
