  1. Chiarelli is VP of hockey ops for St Louis. He interviewed for the GM job in Chicago.
  2. The Ottawa Sun, who published the initial articles, apologised to Eugene Melnyk as it turned out that the claims by Rick Gibbons were false. The link marked in red directs to the Ottawa Sun where they've corrected the claims by Gibbons with their apology.
  3. The CBA approved ahead of the bubble foresees that the raise can't be more than 1M till the escrow balance/player debt is paid back.
  4. Boudreau is aware of Hunt's limitations while he was blown away by what Spurgeon can do. Boudreau says that Hunt will give you all he's got but acknowledges that his all is not necessarily as good as they hope - ie he'll put in effort but he has limitations. Spurgeon is even better than Boudreau ever hoped - he's slight but there's no one he trusted more against the opponents very best players.
  5. Tragic number is 25pts. Remaining schedule - teams in red currently hold a playoff spot.
  6. CSA looks at the full context of the play that leads to a shot (passing plays, number of screens, etc). Based on the historical conversion rate of the different plays Halak has been operating in one of the worse environment this season. That points at a defensive issue.
  7. Teams who are without their LTIR players still need to make the playoffs. Vegas ain't doing too well without Mark Stone. Kucherov was luck because it was a shortened season - wouldn't have worked out as well in an 82 game season. It's allowing players to stay on LTIR till the playoff that's causing the issue. An alternative - to be eligible for round 1 players on LTIR have to be activated to the main roster on the last day of the regular season. Will somewhat penalise teams who are out of the playoffs as there would be a smaller market for their upcoming UFAs. Shouldn't unfairly hurt teams that have avoided LTIR and banked cap space to add at the TDL.
  8. Would make it much harder for teams to trade their expiring UFAs at the TDL. Teams that are not in LTIR add at the TDL using banked cap space. They can't carry a 5M player for the full season but can carry him for 20% of it. They will obviously exceed the cap come playoff time. They haven't spent more than 81.5M over the season though but their daily cap hit for the remainder of the season is obviously beyond 81.5M because they were under it up to the TDL so they could bank cap space. A team in LTIR with 1M in cap space can only add a 1M contract - as there's no banked cap space. A team that is not in LTIR but has 1M in cap space all through the season can add a 5M contract at the TDL. 80.5M x 80% of the season up to the TDL + 85.5M x 20% after adding that 5M player = 81.5M. Putting a cap on the playoff would no longer allow that team that never went in LTIR to add that 5M player at the TDL. A few seasons ago, Vegas deliberately started the season well under the cap. They added something like 12M in contracts at the TDL using banked cap space per Granger. That would no longer be possible.
  9. More the reason to get more picks - need volume to hit.
  10. Gaudreau is 3rd in league scoring with 90pts Devon Toews is a top pairing D for Colorado Drake Batherson was over ppg and going to the All Star game before a stupid play cut his season short Slavin is considered one of the best defensive Ds in the game Alex Carrier and Ekholm are top-4 Ds for Nashville Ben Chiarot just brought back a 1st round pick Toronto is convinced Bunting will win the Calder Arvidsson, Nyquist, Andrew Copp, Pageau, Marcus Foligno TJ Brodie, Ryan Graves Several here would like to bring in Nick Paul.
  11. Probably lack of cap space. He has a 6.8M cap hit and Arizona had already used up their 3 retention spots so they had to trade him at full cap hit. Too many teams playoff bound were in LTIR and unable to bank cap space so they could only add what they had available or had to move cap out. Teams in LTIR simply didn't have 6.8M in cap space.
  12. Boudreau's most trusted D in Minnesota was Spurgeon - barely 5'9 and 166' and smaller than Hughes. He admitted to being very skeptical that he could matchup against top lines when he 1st saw him but was won over very quickly.
  13. They've allowed the 2nd fewest goals against per game - only Carolina has allowed fewer.
  14. Crouse initially was with quite a few teams interested but Friedman then said their preference is to keep him. Don't think his name was on any of the trade boards this TDL. He's RFA this summer so they'll probably have to make a decision on whether to extend him or trade him.
  15. Friedman says that Arizona's preference is to keep Crouse. They've been asking the moon for Chychrun so would guess it's the same for Crouse.
  16. Pesce lost his cool because Namestnikov went for a hit and lifted his elbow to get him in the head.
  17. The Wild are also really strong defensively and typically keep teams to the outside.
  18. via HockeyViz.com. The NHL gives access to the shot coordinates.
  19. Those 2 are definitely not available - Ek is as untouchable as it gets. Guerin got tonnes of call on him and locked him up for 8 years at an incredible cap hit. He also just extended Greenway. He just raves about that line.
  20. He was asking for about 3M - reason why they couldn't get a deal done in Ottawa.
  21. They had the worse goaltending in the league back then which undid all their solid defensive work. They still have below average goaltending when accounting for environment but Talbot is still a considerable upgrade from what they had before. Fleury should help them. They are also significantly faster. They moved on from all their slow skaters - Staal, Koivu, Parise were particularly slow as well as Bonino who they had for the season after that. Adding Kaprizov has been huge too and realising that Hartman could be more than an RW4 too.
  22. The Wild are foremost built on speed but Guerin did add some snarl for the post-season. They were missing a heavy crease clearing D and got Middleton. Sturm was replaced by a slighter but quicker Jost and they've added Deslauriers for more physicality. Middleton is 219' but their 6 Ds still averaged under 190' with him. By comparison, Vancouver iced a D-corps that averaged over 202'. Their top-3 most productive players are 5'10 at most but 2 are over 200'. Their best D is listed at 5'9 and 166' while Hughes is at 5'10 and 180. Vancouver's top-6 is on average heavier/bigger than the Wild's. It's their 3rd line that tips the scale - that GREEF line is just massive and they can all skate. Evason also uses them against the opponents' best line. Here's are the bios for this game.
