  1. Wild's projected lineup. Talbot gets the start. Kaprizov Hartman Zuccarello Fiala Gaudreau Boldy Greenway EriksonEk Foligno Deslauriers Jost Duhaime Middleton Spurgeon Brodin Dumba Merrill Goligoski
  2. Kesler's LTIR was a negative - it was part of the cost to move Dadonov. There's no benefit for adding an LTIR contract. It doesn't create cap space. Anaheim wants to move that contract because they want to bank cap space to avoid a bonus overage. Can't bank cap space in LTIR - reason why the Canucks are going to have a bonus overage despite having over 5M in cap space today - as they are in LTIR that cap space is forfeited.
  3. The league investigates all LTIR cases and there are consequent penalties if a team tries to circumvent the cap.
  4. It's cheaper for Nashville to buy him out. The buyout cap hit is even negative in year 1 - ie instead of having a penalty it would create over 600K in cap space because of how his contract is structure.
  5. They also have Pacioretty, Lehner, Reilly Smith, McNabb on IR - if their injuries linger they could be moved to LTIR. Lehner will apparently need off-season surgery on his shoulder and also has a 5M cap hit - they could advance the timeline given how much they've struggled lately. Vegas are slipping out of the playoff picture and are 3-7-0 over their last 10 games.
  6. They didn't retain but took back Moore's buried 1.625M cap hit. Maximum retention is 50% and likely not something Vegas wants to do because of that extra year - with everyone healthy next season they are going to have to clear cap. The cost was likely higher with Arizona.
  7. Can't play at all. Players have to be on the team's reserve list at the TDL to be able to play the remainder of the season whether regular games or playoffs.
  8. Players traded after the TDL can no longer play - ie he wouldn't be allowed to play for Arizona this season. To go to the farm team he would have to go through waivers but it looks he wouldn't be allowed to play there either. From the AHL website on the trade deadline: "In addition, a player had to be on an AHL roster at 3 p.m. ET on Monday to be eligible to be sent down from the NHL at any time for the rest of the season. That requirement led to several top prospects being assigned to an AHL club in order to maintain that eligibility."
  9. Players traded after the TDL cannot play for the remainder of the regular season and not just the playoffs.
  10. Not just the playoffs - players traded after the TDL can no longer play in the regular season too so there's very little benefit to make a trade after the TDL even for non-playoff teams. CapFriendly tweeted the same information.
  11. There's no reason for them to need an LTIR contract. LTIR doesn't create cap space and actually limits it - can't bank cap space in LTIR. Kesler was part of the cost to off-load Dadonov - Vegas would certainly prefer not be forced to take him back. Anaheim wants to move that contract so they can bank more cap space for their performance bonuses and avoid a carry over into next season.
  12. Not sure it's their approach though. Rutherford wants them to still compete and would guess he prefers to just get rid of players without tying himself to another troublesome contract. He talks of wanting cap space to be able to jump on opportunities - thinking here of Toews or even Buchnevich who were traded for cap reasons by their respective teams and are doing rather well. Also Vegas gains less than half his cap hit in such a trade - they could just trade him at 50% retained instead and be done with it.
  13. He still has 1 year left on his deal at 5M. Don't see Vancouver doing that. They still want to compete next season.
  14. Anaheim can bank cap space by getting out of LTIR. Teams in LTIR can't bank cap space and forfeit any excess cap space they have. Although Vancouver has 5M in cap space today they can't bank it and it's forfeited. Their end of season cap space is still zero, which is the reason why they have a bonus overage.
  15. They might have to demote a couple of players but should work. Kesler is a negative or at best neutral - doesn't help cap wise.
  16. Don't see Vegas wanting Weber at all. Kesler is on an expiring contract while Weber would cost them cap space for another 4 seasons. Vancouver probably lost more than Halak's bonus in cap space because they are operating in LTIR + they'll have an overage.
  17. Because they've off-loaded 5M in actual cap space. LTIR adds to both sides of the equation but it gets cancelled out - increases their cap hit but they can exceed the cap by the equivalent amount. So in their case it's neutral as their notional cap has already been set. Anaheim does that deal because they want to bank cap space to avoid a bonus overage - they have several ELC players. In LTIR they can't bank cap space so it would carry over into next season.
  18. There's no limit to LTIR. Was talking about banking cap space. Vancouver has over 5M in cap space but as they are in LTIR they can't bank it and are forfeiting it. Instead of banking 1M (= 5M x 20% of the season left) they are losing that cap space. If they weren't in LTIR they would have set it aside and it could have covered a portion of Halak's bonus. A team that is 1M under the cap all season till the TLD has banked 800K - 80% of the season x 1M. It would allow them to add a 5M player at the TDL. If they are in LTIR with 1M of cap space - they aren't banking any cap space and can only add a 1M player. It's visible on CapFriendly where the vast majority of teams in LTIR have no end of season cap space although some have quite a bit of daily cap space. Performance bonuses come out of end of season cap space - reason why Vancouver has a bonus overage as their end of season cap space is nil.
