  1. Can't walk away from the award but not aware of any trade restrictions and at first glance haven't found any.
  2. Starting on the 4th line with Goodrow and Reaves. "I've found a role on the PK, so I'll see if I get that same opportunity here," Motte said. "Just try and play good hard minutes, get in on the forecheck, use my speed and try to make my linemates' nights easier. You get excited for the opportunity, excited to play meaningful games here down the stretch and make a run with these guys. It's exciting to get right into it right away."
  3. Could also just let him talk to teams he is willing to sign with.
  4. He could elect a 2 year award. His arbitration award can't be less than 85% of his last salary - so 6.375M but that's the floor. Boeser is going to inflate his ask and they'll end up somewhere in the middle. Even if he takes 1 year, it still makes him a 1 year rental if his new team can't agree on a long term deal with him.
  5. Can happen before or after. For the after situation, only if the player hasn't signed his QO and hasn't filed for arbitration.
  6. Team elected arbitration is rather rare. Don't find all that logical to take 2 years. Can achieve the same thing by taking 1 year as the QO would be whatever the award for that 1 year is. Also a player can only be taken once to team elected arbitration in his career.
  7. The party taken to arbitration can elect either 1 year or 2 years (but can't cover UFA years). As Boeser is 2 years to UFA he gets to choose either 1 year or 2 year in a team elected arbitration.
  8. 2 more years. UFA is earliest between age 27 and 7 pro-seasons. A pro-season is minimum 40 games - so that 1st partial year doesn't count as a pro-year towards UFA status and this is his 5th pro-season - so 2 more to go. He turns 27 in 2 more seasons.
  9. Can't walk away if it's a team elected arbitration. If it's player elected, the team can walk away if the award is more than a certain amount (was ~4.5M last season).
  10. The Fox and Zibanejad extensions kick in next season - Fox is going from an ELC to 9.5M and Zibanejad's increase is over 3M. NYR were so mindful of cap space that they traded away Buchnevich last summer - he's got 47pts in 52 games and is signed at 5.8M.
  11. That's not an option. Regular contracts can't have performance bonuses. Performance bonuses are only possible on ELCs, 1 year contract for an age 35+ player (eg Halak) or 1 year contract when the player is coming back from a long-term injury.
  12. Fleury would have probably refused to waive anyway - per Lazarus the only team he was willing to waive for was the Wild. Russo says his list was very very short. Also:
  13. He might get less than he was asking from Vancouver. He was probably looking at the Dickinson contract. His agent calls him a 3rd liner but the market might see him differently. Several players turned down deals because they felt they could get more on the open market and had to then settle for less.
  14. LTIR doesn't create cap space. LTIR contracts still count against the cap. Ferland/Sutter cost Vancouver 300K cap space just by going on LTIR - they weren't able to maximise their LTIR relief so instead of operating with a cap of 81.5M for their regular roster they are operating at 81.2M. Anything above 81.2M is only LTIR cap and these guys can't play. Today CapFriendly shows Vancouver with just over 3.5M in cap space. That space can't be banked and it's forfeited. If they weren't in LTIR they would have been able to bank 700K = 3.5M in cap space x 20% of the season left. Any space they had this season is forfeited and they can't put it aside which is the reason why they have a bonus overage. If you go down all the teams in LTIR, you'll note that barely any have end of season cap space regardless of how much room they had on the day. Anaheim made that deal because they have players on ELCs and it will allow them to bank cap space to limit a bonus overage. Vegas had to clear the Dadonov contract - Kesler is on IR and not LTIR according to CapFriendly.
  15. Seattle needs to ice a team - they've traded so many roster players this TDL and can't just recall everyone from the AHL. They have an agreement with Florida to send their players to their affiliate in Charlotte and have to provide a minimum of 8 players (maximum 12). Francis had Rask back in Carolina.
  16. Because he's in the last year of his deal. Vegas has him on IR btw and not on LTIR per CapFriendly. Teams typically try and keep players on IR rather than go on LTIR when unnecessary.
  17. Can't bank cap space in LTIR - reason why Vancouver has a bonus overage. It's easily visible on CapFriendly. Vancouver is operating in LTIR and created cap space this TDL by dealing Hamonic/Motte - you can see that they have over 3.5M in LTIR cap space. That's the amount of cap hits they can still add to the roster and remain cap compliant. The column before is zero though - that's the amount of cap space they are banking till the end of the season. Although they have 3.5M in LTIR cap space, if it goes unused it gets forfeited. Performance bonuses come out of end of season cap space but Vancouver has none so they will entirely get rolled over into next season. Look at all the teams in LTIR, regardless of how much cap space they still have to add to their roster, the vast majority have no end of season cap space. The few that do is because they went into LTIR once the season already started and have been able to bank some cap space till then. Teams who aren't in LTIR are banking cap space - ie every day that they are under 81.5M they are putting that cap space aside for future use. Teams in LTIR can't because they are exceeding the cap so their extra cap space gets forfeited and they are losing cap space. Taking back the Kesler contract is part of the cost of moving Dadonov. It's not a benefit as Kesler will never play again and won't be activated come playoff time. By moving him Anaheim gets to bank cap space and can limit the bonus overage for their ELC players.
  18. Harri Sateri claimed by Arizona. To sign with Toronto coming from Europe as a UFA he had to clear waivers first.
  19. He only wanted to go to Minnesota per Mark Lazerus. Bowman had assured him that they wouldn't trade him without his consent and Davidson decided to honour that promise. Wanted to be close to his family - they are staying in Chicago to finish the school year and he knows both Guerin and Ray Shero (special advisor to the GM).
