[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

That's the package Satiar Shah thinks Vancouver would accept if they decide to move Miller but without the 50% retention. He was exchanging with some fans over potential packages on twitter yesterday. He tweeted: "Schneider is terrific but I think there are packages involving Lundkvist and a 1st that VAN would take if the third piece is enticing but they're not taking that type of offer Brooks suggested" "If they get Othmann as the 3rd piece, that's massive value and probably unlikely. Would you say yes to 1st, Lundkvist & Kravtsov? That's the trio I could see VAN accepting if they're ready to move JT" -

Those 2 execs think that the deal is pretty fair and that's with Miller at 50% retained. -

Per Seravalli the Canucks are really torn on Miller so if they don't get the offer they want the more reason to try and keep him. -

Seravalli thinks that the Canucks are really conflicted about Miller. Could depend on what he wants and if he really wants to be in Vancouver. -

If they don't want to move Schneider, adding Motte is not going to change anything. -

Rutherford in discussion with Scott Burnside doesn't feel there's any urgency to make a trade: JR: Well, we’re in a position that we don’t have to feel any pressure this year because we don’t have top players where they’re going to be UFAs. So there’s no urgency here to make those kinds of decisions. Our decisions will be made step by step as to what we think is best for the franchise now and in the future. SB: That’s a good way to have it if you’re starting out in building this organization to not to have to deal with those kinds of personnel issues right away? JR: It is. Yeah. Yeah. It wouldn’t be as comfortable if we were sitting here with a couple of our top players going to be UFAs that would put a lot of pressure on the staff and we’re not in that position, so that’s good. -

Don't know anything about them other than both were taken in the 1st round in 2018 - Lundkvist at 28th and Kravtsov at 9th. Friedman in his 32 Thoughts said that Kravtsov is looking to come back to the NHL. Satiar Shah as well as Drance and Dhaliwal thinks he's a player that very much interest Vancouver. Back in 2015 when Rutherford fired Johnston and replaced him with Sullivan, he blamed himself for not having brought in enough puck movers. He went on to explain that offence starts with having movement from the back end - Pittsburgh were having trouble scoring. He then went on to trade for Schultz and Daley and they won the Cup. Under Sullivan the Ds were extremely aggressive offensively and were defending already at the opponent's blue line - in the finals SJS could hardly get out of their own end. Boudreau wants to defend as high as possible and has a puck mover at the top of his wish list. The Canucks' Ds are not particularly mobile or productive past Hughes. Lundkvist is a puck mover. -

Satiar Shah thinks that Vancouver could accept Lundkvist, Kravtsov and a 1st if they're ready to move on from Miller. He was exchanging on twitter with some fans over potential packages. He doesn't think NYR would part with Schneider, Lafrenière or Kakko and he's not certain that Vancouver feels either one has to be included. Arthur Staple says that the ask according to sources is the classic: pick, prospect and player. He speculates that Lundkvist + 1st could be a start and maybe with a 3rd piece like a mid-round pick or young player equivalent. He too doesn't seem to think that Schneider would be available. -

They'll also have cost certainty and even more cap space if they simply don't qualify Zacha. There's no real reason for them to take back Dickinson. Canucks are also only 1 of several teams interested in Zacha. -

Boldy went to the AHL till he gave them no choice but to call him up. Guerin insists that the road to the NHL is through the AHL. Says he wants prospects to become difference makers and they need to play those big minutes in all situations. He wants them to force their way to the team and a spot will be opened up. Podkolzin has never really played those big minutes - not even in the KHL. Got to wonder if he wouldn't be better served spending some time in the AHL. -

Ferland is never going to play again. Adding Ferland doesn't create cap space. He still counts against the cap and they can exceed the cap by his cap hit - it's neutral but would limit their cap space next season. Vancouver lost 300K in cap space right off the bat because they couldn't maximise Ferland's LTIR relief and are operating at a 81.2M cap hit this season. Also every day that they aren't at 81.2M they lose that differential. If they weren't in LTIR they would have been able to bank that cap space. Kucherov and Ferland the bubble season were different situations - they went on LTIR till the playoffs but then returned. It allowed them to replace those players on the roster but they were then back for the post-season. Vegas looks to be doing the same with Stone. -

McLellan listed being a big physical team and having size as one of the 5 key reasons they won the Cup. Don't really see how Garland would interest them. Why would they remove Eller from their roster - he's their C3. It creates a pretty big hole in their lineup. Don't see either why they would want to take on Halak's bonus when they are trying to contend with Ovechkin - they'll want all the cap space they can get next season too. Seravalli says they are looking for a Cup-calibre starter. -

Eller is their shutdown C. Don't see why Eller or Hathaway would interest Vancouver - they are too old as targets and would think that Washington would want to retain them for the post-season. They have about 2M in cap space with a roster of 23. So if they demote someone they could add Miller at 50% (assuming he's their target). -

Sorry to hear what you are dealing with - hope things will get better soon. Timo Meier is big, skilled and a beast too. He's having a terrific season so far - 1.15 ppg well ahead of anyone else on their team. Wonder how they are going to deal with that 10M qualifying offer. He had those memorable playoffs a few years ago and then faded. Was even rumoured to be on the trade block for a while. Has rebounded big time this season. Canucks at SJS this Thursday. -
