[Rumour] Canucks interested in Pavel Zacha
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Motte is a UFA and NJD is not in a playoff position. Dickinson at this point looks like a cap dump. There are teams calling them on Zacha - ie he has trade value. -

Timo Meier. Hertl is a UFA at the end of this season. -
This was the latest update. Has dealt with migraines in Winnipeg.

Islanders and Canucks Trade Proposal
mll replied to CaptainLinden16's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
They can't move the puck out of their zone. That's primarily a D issue. Vancouver btw are 3rd last in 5v5 scoring - only Montreal and Chicago score less per game. -
Islanders and Canucks Trade Proposal

Dobson is getting high praise from Trotz. Don't see them willing to move him at all. Pulock signed an extension that starts only next season - doubt he would be available either. Trotz commented earlier that he thinks their struggles were mostly because of a depleted D-corps. I think they'll try to fix that 1st - ie adding reinforcements to Dobson, Pulock and Pelech who look to be untouchables. Their D-corps took a hit without Toews and Leddy and can't see them wanting to weaken it further. -
Van + NJD [Proposal] Better balanced lineup.

They handed the reins to Hughes/Hischier saying it's their team - it's up to them to set the tone. I don't think they want to put a vet above them. Cap space is also going to get tight and why would Miller want to be on a rebuilding team - he's not getting any younger and surely wants to win a Cup while he can still be in a prime role. Boeser has a 7.5M qualifying offer - think it will turn away quite a few teams including NJD who have a far more important player in Bratt to re-sign. I think you are targeting the wrong team. I also don't think that the return helps Vancouver other than that circa 6th overall. Siegenthaler is a shutdown D with very limited offensive ability. Vancouver can't score and Siegenthaler is not going to help there. Boudreau has a puck mover at the top of his wish list. McLeod is not an offensive C at this stage either. The reports are that NJD have interest in Garland - not in Boeser. -

How when you are removing players that could help them for a long time and replacing them with rentals? Do you really believe Miller wants to babysit a rebuilding team? Boeser is going to be too expensive and hasn't looked particularly dynamic. They could pick quite the player at 6th overall who could be part of their core for much longer than either of them. Siegenthaler, McLeod are also roster players that fit their core and contributing. That trade forces them to start over in finding their replacements. It sets them back instead of helping them grow a team that will be together for a while. NJD comment that there are teams that have a lot of good players but those teams don't excel because they haven't built a team - they believe in brotherhood (it was even plastered all over their walls at one point). NJD also went on to trade veterans like Hall, Palmieri, Coleman despite a good fit because they wanted to hand the reins to Hischier and Hughes who they consider as the pillars they are building around. I also don't think the return really helps Vancouver other than that 6th overall. -

Miller is too old for Vancouver but isn't for NJD who are building around an even younger core? NJD aren't even battling for a playoff spot. Don't really see why they would have any interest in Miller. He's a year to UFA and unlikely to sign with a rebuilding team. Siegenthaler has been a real find for them and fits the age of their core. Don't see why they would want to move him when he's turned into a top-4 shutdown D for them. NJD's advantage seems to be their skating speed - would they really have interest in Boeser with his 7.5M qualifying offer and also soon a UFA. Bratt is a near ppg player - they would obviously prioritise re-signing him over Boeser. Why would they want to trade McLeod who is so good in face-offs, fits their core and is their top PKer? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Tuch grew up a Sabres fan and they specifically targeted him for that. Don't think they'll be willing to part with him - changing their culture and bringing in players who legit want to be Sabres has too much value. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Pavel Zacha

Don't see why NJD would take back Dickinson. There's trade interest in Zacha - teams are actively calling NJD per Marek. He's a RFA so they could also just clear his cap by not qualifying him if he fell so much out of favour. There's no real reason for them to take a cap dump back. -

Where was that JR quote about not looking to move a scorer? Rutherford wants to hear from everyone before making a decision - probably also the analytics angle. Would guess she would feed her intel to Aidan Fox who leads the department and he would be part of the discussions on who to target from the different teams. Someone has decided that Zacha would be an interesting target. -

BriseBois probably already trying to trade them Seabrook's LTIR contract. Has a 4M signing bonus (probably due in July) and then would be 5.5M for the rest of the contract over 2 seasons for a 6.875M cap hit. His contract is probably insured too. -
Washington want a goalie that allows Laviolette to sleep soundly at night and are looking for a Cup-calibre starter per Seravalli. That wouldn't be Halak. Per Friedman, Arizona's preference is to keep Crouse. Don't think they would be willing to take cap dumps without getting significant future assets in return. They are set to lose considerable money for the next few years. Would think they are going to hoard LTIR contracts to reach the floor provided they are covered by insurance and fill their roster with league minimum contracts or players who have higher cap hits than their salaries. Boston's primary need above anything else is finding a C2 - don't see them using their best trade chips on a winger when C2 is such a pressing need. Things really didn't end well between Hornqvist and Rutherford - both sides probably wouldn't want a reunion.

Rutherford might not see Garland as part of the team going forward. Rachel Doerrie worked for NJD under Hynes and would have insight on Zacha. -

They add but not massively. The Canucks are interested in Zacha as explained by Marek in the clip posted - ie Vancouver sees something of value in him that interests them. -

He's their 3rd most used forward. Doesn't feel like he's someone they just want to dump but might be the cost to get Garland. -

Where are you getting that NYR are interested in Garland? Feels surprising given owner Dolan's complaints that they weren't built for the post-season when he fired Gorton/Davidson. They are also extremely tight to the cap and likely wouldn't even have the cap space to retain him next season. -

They were sunk on goaltending. Team is better built than their record suggests but their goalies have been extremely poor. -

NJD aren't looking to trade McLeod though. He's their top PKer and Ruff trusts him against top lines which would create a hole in their lineup. -

Zacha is playing top-6 but on the wing - he barely plays C anymore. He has spent most of the season on Hischier's wing and is 3rd in TOI among Fs behind only Hughes and Hischier. -

Those stats don't account for environment. Even more sophisticated models like Natural Stat Trick can't paint an accurate picture as they only have shot location and can't account for pre-shot movements or screens. A shot off a cross-seam pass is over 10 times more dangerous than a shot from the same location with no passing play. Multiple screens are going to make it harder to make a save. Sportlogiq shows that no team has had their goalies outperform their environment in more games than the Canucks. -
Dhaliwal tweeted it but it's wrong unless his last salary is not 7.5M as listed on CapFriendly. They've introduced a cap at 120% of the AAV as part of the CBA MOU but previous contracts are grandfathered.
