OEL played sheltered minutes last season. Chychrun played the toughest matchups. It's pretty easily verifiable with how there were so few opponents. Using Colorado. Chychrun played 60 minutes against MacKinnon. OEL played 18 minutes in the same number of games. This season Chychrun is left playing with rookie and 3rd pairing Ds as Goligoski moved on. They've also downgraded their roster and in goal. Armstrong confirmed to LeBrun that they are in a tear down rebuild.

Has to work on his defensive game. Boudreau wants to win and so do the players. Guerin always says that they want prospects to become difference makers, not just guys who play in the NHL. He insists that development happens in the AHL where they will get to play in all situations. I suspect that his strong stance on the importance of the AHL comes from Pittsburgh/Rutherford. Allvin did talk of the importance of the AHL in his opening presser.

Likely because he's not NHL ready. Myers-OEL can do well defensively together but could either do well with a rookie on the other side - not sure.

Boudreau recently said he wished OEL was more like 4 years ago. He was commenting on Myers-OEL being good defensively but wished they contributed more offensively. For Boudreau the best Ds are solid both offensively and defensively - he doesn't think it should be a trade-off and gives Tampa as example. On one of the shows during his break from coaching he talked of how Fowler was good at both ends of the ice. In Minnesota Spurgeon and Suter played the toughest matchups and excelled at both ends. The Wild were actually one of the highest scoring D-corps while being one of the best defensively under Boudreau. Not according to Boudreau - he has another puck mover at the top of his wish list.

Coyotes lose vote for new arena - future unclear

Wonder if the NHLPA and Board of Governors couldn't push to have Arizona excluded from revenue sharing till they have an appropriate venue. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They might be building a castle of cards. The Natural Stat Trick model at 5v5 has them 32nd in CF%, FF%, SCF% 31st in SF% only ahead of Arizona 29th in xGF% ahead of Arizona, Buffalo and Montreal 25th in HDCF% Their heat maps from HockeyViz shows them cold blue in the scoring areas (ie they are shooting at below average rates) and bright red in their own end where they are allowing their fair share of shots against. -

From Friedman's 32 Thoughts: 22. Arizona got its deal done with Arizona State. The revenue split looks as follows: ASU keeps arena naming rights and sponsorship revenue. The Coyotes keep the gate, their merchandising sales and a piece of concessions. Still no official word on seating. I’ve previously mentioned rumours of 3,200. My guess is somewhere between there and 4,000. But no certainty. What also isn’t known yet is average ticket price. I’ve heard there’s been a couple of different models with a higher average, but again, no certainty. -
[Rumour] Canucks trying to trade Halak
mll replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Needs to start 1 more game to reach his bonus per Friedman in his 32 Thoughts: 11. This could all be moot because he’s not inclined to move, but Jaroslav Halak has not yet reached his $1.25M games-played bonus, because it’s for 10 starts -- not 10 appearances. There’s been a lot of debate about whether or not this or his “other” bonus ($250,000 for a .905 save percentage or better) can be shared between teams. According to several capologists, there can be no sharing. One team has to pay all of it, but, as part of a trade, the acquiring team could agree to accept it if worthwhile. But, again, this may all be moot if Halak declines to move. -

They can already negotiate with Miller now. They can't file his contract before the start of next season which is 13 July this season. -

If Stone goes on LTIR for the rest of the season it solves their cap issues to activate Eichel. -
An accrued NHL season towards UFA status is 40 games. So he's 2 years away.

Tracking technology shows otherwise. Before Boudreau took over they were 3rd best in goals against per game at 5v5 but near last in rush chances against. Spencer Martin had one of the most impressive goalie performance this season according to Sportlogiq's tracking technology. McDavid had 16 possession entries that game - most by a player in any game that season. Not really the sign of being solid in front of him. -
He's been assigned to the AHL. He was Seattle's expansion selection but Washington picked him up when they tried to send him to the AHL.

[Rumour] Canucks trying to trade Halak
mll replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Environment impacts save percentage - the quality of shots faced depends on how well/poorly a team plays in front of their goalie. Doesn't feel like Edmonton's defence is better than Vancouver's - there's no guarantee that Halak would be able to maintain his save percentage in Edmonton. Halak is 2-4-2 in 8 starts. Wouldn't put those losses on him but if he can't steal games for Vancouver who looks to be better defensively not sure Edmonton will believe he can steal games for them. -
Rangers and Coyotes and Knights(Optional)

Not necessarily. Could see Nashville taking him on for a late pick. He's an upcoming UFA so no salary beyond this season. Gives them a better top-6 winger to play with Johansen while not giving up much. -
[Rumour] Canucks trying to trade Halak
mll replied to VegasCanuck's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The majority of contending teams don't have 3M to spend on a backup goalie. So it's not like he had the option to sign with a contender at 3M. Halak is a backup goalie and not a starter - doubtful that he would be considered for the starter position on a team with ambition. He's more likely to interest teams who will want to upgrade their backup than a team like Washington who want a more reliable starter for the post-season. Seravalli says that they want a 'Cup-calibre starter - someone that will allow Laviolette to sleep soundly at night.' -

They are interested in Fleury because they want a playoff starter. That wouldn't be Halak who is a backup. -
That was initially the plan but the situation was getting worse by the day that they had to do something. Petry from the get go has been vocal about how they had no system. Montreal media has continued to talk of how poorly coached the team has been under Ducharme. The risk is creating such a negative atmosphere that it hurts the confidence and development of their young players. Again today before the announcement Basu wrote: "The coaching deficiencies on this team appear to be a very real impediment to what Hughes hopes to create over the second half of the season. That atmosphere of hockey being fun. When Anderson says it is not fun to come to the rink, that hockey is not fun, that should be a serious red flag." There's no reason to go another half a season with players being just miserable. Even if they are out of the playoffs they can continue to teach and develop players but they need a more positive environment.
