  1. Friedman says that Myers would be a hard contract to move so your valuation seems rather off. Same for Boeser - his 7.5M QO is a pretty big deterrent. Also not the right teams to trade with. Anaheim are in a rebuild. They probably won't be giving up a 1st when they aren't even in a playoff position and don't really need a 32 year old D. The Wild are definitely not trading Boldy with how Guerin and Evason talk about him - he has looked extremely impressive since being called up. Doubt the Wild have interest in Boeser either. Doesn't have the footspeed to play at the pace they want to play + they don't even have cap space. Guerin also couldn't care less that a player is from Minnesota - he was asked. Colorado's target is believed to be Giroux per Friedman.
  2. As long as Crosby can keep going they'll likely always be all in so wouldn't expect them to want 1.5M in dead cap next season. Nashville is the one I would look into for Halak as they can absorb his bonus entirely this season and Rittich has a 0.882% save percentage in 7 games. They have favourable taxes which could be an incentive for Halak. Nashville has also the reputation for being very caring and making a transition really easy for players and their families with all the assistance they provide. Halak has a young family and Woodley believes that's why he's reluctant to waive so knowing that they will be treated well could ease the concerns of moving.
  3. Rutherford was on McCown/Shannon's podcast and it's pretty clear that he doesn't see this team able to contend with how it's built. He said: 'I would like to think that with the players we have, that this team can be retooled and that we can get it to a point that we get more comfortable with it over a 2 year period. That we can get it to contend again. But, I can't sit here and guarantee that's how long it's going to take. Sometimes you get some good luck on some players and sometimes it doesn't work out.' Talks of how they will be targeting college and European free agents. Says their sales pitch to them will be that they can guarantee guys a spot on the team as it's not like they went to the finals.
  4. Depends who they are looking to move. Do they want to already move on from players who won't be part of their contending window or will they let longer contracts expire and/or try and move them closer to the start of that window. It could come down to retention vs a buyout. They are talking to Miller's camp to know how much it would cost to retain him. They can only file on 1 July but the deal can already be agreed now. Trading Miller might not necessarily be the path followed.
  5. The strategy isn't clear yet - how do they go from today to where they want to be in 2 years.
  6. No guarantee they would have picked that player either but gives an indication of who could have been available. Fox wouldn't have signed in Vancouver - had his mind made up on NYR.
  7. Still gave the team credit for those wins but not making more out of them than that. LAK, ANA, SJS, WPG are bubble teams. Vegas are top of the Pacific and would be ranked 5th in the Central - those California teams are much further back. CBJ are in a rebuild. CAR was missing Aho, on a back-to-back and Brind'Amour called the Canucks okay but felt that they were the ones that lost the game by making unusual mistakes - pointed out that they were giving the puck away while not even pressured. BOS also played their back-up as they were on the 1st game of a back-to-back. 4 of those 8 games went to extra time where they won 3 including 2 in a shootout.
  8. Wouldn't expect Vancouver to retain on Miller. They only have 3 retention spots and might prefer to keep them for players who could be harder to move or to use it to leverage their cap space next season. With Miller might work better for Vancouver to take back an expiring UFA to make the cap work rather than to use 1 of only 3 retention spots - similar to LA taking back Schaller in the Toffoli trade.
  9. Don't see why. Would look at the players available at that pick till Vancouver picks next. Teams typically have 40 players or so on their draft lists - they don't rank every prospects but the ones that interest them yet over 200 players get picked each year. Teams don't have the same draft lists.
  10. In his interview Rutherford also pointed out that they benefited from a favourable schedule in December where they also faced mostly backup goalies and not the number 1s.
  11. He has 166 followers on twitter. Doesn't feel like Rangers' fans trust him for their info.
  12. Do they want to keep that extra half. I'd guess that the plan is to also leverage their cap space to get extra picks - like those 3rd teams are doing. Can only retain on 3 contracts. Some players might be harder to move than Miller too.
  13. Rutherford doesn't think the team can contend as they are built - hopes to contend in 2 years but says it's easy to sit there and say that. It's better if they start earlier than to delay the inevitable.
  14. They could be cheaper as expiring UFAs if they can use a 3rd team and bring them in at 25%. Costs a 4th or 5th round pick in the past to use a 3rd team. It's harder to do with Miller because of that extra year.
  15. Rutherford just told McCown he hopes for a 2-year re-tool to get back to contention but can't guarantee it. OEL will be 33 by when Rutherford hopes they can start to contend. With Rutherford talking of 2 years would think he would have probably preferred missing the playoffs with 12M coming off the cap and Guenther in the system, than missing the playoffs with OEL at 7.2M despite having Garland. Garland will probably also not return the equivalent of 9th overall in a trade, as part of his acquisition cost was to off-load cap.
  16. Need to clear over 12M at the TDL to be able to absorb his bonus this season. To start banking cap space they need to get out of LTIR - ie they have to clear enough cap space so they can go on IR instead and fit under the 81.5M cap. Hamonic is not season ending injury so he'll come off but there's Ferland, Sutter etc. It's only once they are out of LTIR that they will be in position to bank cap space. To bank 1.5M with 20% of the season left they need to be under the cap by 7.5M on top of the LTIR contracts. Nashville comes to mind as a team that could absorb his bonus. Saros plays nearly every game but they could still use a better backup than Rittich. Poile tells Friedman he likes the make-up of his team and doesn't want to mess their chemistry. A backup goalie wouldn't impact the rest of the roster though. Rittich is UFA at 1.25M so they could send him the other way.
  17. Pearson and Hamonic are probably cap in/cap out type deals. Most teams are probably not going to want that 1.5M bonus for Halak either. Looking at CapFriendly most teams won't have the end of year cap space to absorb his bonus and it would get carried over.
  18. Demko with Blue World by Mac Miller. Players not listed didn't pick a song.
  19. And that opinion led to the firing of Davidson and Gorton. He replaced them with Drury who he felt had a vision that aligned more with his.
  20. Don't see Boston dealing Swayman - he's their Tukka Rask replacement. Rask is also injured and it's unclear if he can get back to his former self by the playoffs. Arizona has Vejmelka as young goalie - teams have even enquired about him but Arizona has turned them down.
  21. Surprised that they would have interest in Garland. Their owner Dolan has been particularly concerned about their lack of size to make it through the playoffs.
  22. Minnesota have no cap space to add Boeser - not that he would be of any interest either. They need cheap players on ELCs when they'll have 13-15M of dead cap on their books for the coming 3 seasons. An increase of 8M from this season - they'll need to clear cap this off-season.
  23. Doubt Minnesota has any interest in Boeser - too slow and can't drive play anywhere close to how Fiala can. Guerin doesn't believe in targeting local players either - he was asked about it and says he's focused on building a winning team and that doesn't factor into it at all. Their fan favourites have been from all over the world.
