[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Minnesota makes sense for the Wild but not Vancouver. Fiala is most certainly the main return offered up by Guerin with a secondary add - don't see the Wild breaking the bank to get Miller or parting with top prospects given that they are in a rebuild. He won't have the role he has in Vancouver and looks to be more of a stop-gap till Rossi can claim that spot. Cost controlled and a C over Fiala who is RFA and a winger. Minnesota probably looking to get Miller to play with Boldy and then Rossi next year. Miller would be a better fit with those top prospects to help develop them than Freddy Gaudreau who was a 4th liner/F13 for Pittsburgh last season. Hartman is the Wild's C1. He leads their team in goals. I get +/- is a team stats but he's 2nd in the league with a +31 who the Wild always highlight. That top line with Hartman has outscored opponents 2.5 to 1. They just work too well together to think Evason would break them up. -

An explanation here - Russo linked it in one of his articles because Evason also made a reference to one of their player's Covid levels being not up to par to come off protocol. https://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/about/blog/2021/explained-covid19-pcr-testing-and-cycle-thresholds PCR tests tell you if the virus is detected (positive) or not (negative). Each PCR test has cutoff points (the number of cycles it runs), which tells the machine to stop running the test. It is important to note that different brands who make the PCR tests may have different cutoff values based on how sensitive the test is and how the test is designed. Additionally, laboratories across the province involved in COVID-19 testing use different testing kits. At PHO, we have developed a PCR test in our lab, with positive and negative cutoff points. The cutoff point for a positive result for PHO’s developed lab test is 38 cycles. This means that if the virus is found at or before 38 cycles are completed, then the test is considered positive. The cutoff point for a negative result is 40 cycles. If the virus is detected between 38 and 40 cycles, we call this an indeterminate or inconclusive result. All inconclusive results are considered probable (likely) cases for public health reporting. What are cycle threshold values? The cycle threshold (Ct) value is the actual number of cycles it takes for the PCR test to detect the virus. It indicates an estimate of how much virus was likely in the sample to start with – not the actual amount. If the virus is found in a low number of cycles (Ct value under 30), it means that the virus was easier to find in sample and that the sample started out with a large amount of the virus. Think about it like the zoom button on your computer, if you only have to zoom in a little (zoom at 110%), it means that item was big to start with. If you have to zoom a lot (zoom at 180%), it means that the item was small to start with. -
Martin and Silovs also in Covid Protocol - Dipietro and EBUG playing tonight.

The league would have signed off. Daly earlier that week and then Shannon explaining why the game was ultimately postponed. Ottawa did make the trip to Edmonton and Calgary but with the Canucks' game cancelled as well as Winnipeg's they adjusted the schedule by a few days. -

2023/24 - still a full season of being waiver exempt. -
Marek didn't say other than Kravtsov would be part of the deal. The ask is the equivalent of 3x 1st round picks - Arizona in a tear down to the ground rebuild so 1st round pick + high end prospects/young roster players the ask. Could be additional pick depending on the quality of the prospects involved. Says a team has met that ask and other teams now seeing if they'll up their offer. Didn't disclose who but says Florida a team to watch.

Might simply be because Schneider has earned that spot. He was recently recalled and has played 5 games so far. Tinordi has played 7. NYR are in on Chychrun per Marek.

Bruce this place up a bit. [proposal]

LAK went into a rebuild to pick a player like Clarke. Seems unlikely that they would part with him. They even asked Doughty and Kopitar if they wanted to be traded when they decided to go the rebuild route. -
[Signing] Hurricanes re-sign Jalen Chatfield
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Chatfield is in the AHL. He was briefly brought up in early December when they were dealing with injuries and Covid. Played 7 games and went on IR but he's been activated off IR at the end of December and sent to the AHL. The deal he signed is a two-way deal - ie they likely expect him in the AHL next season too. It becomes a 1-way in year 2 but it's low enough that they can entirely bury his cap hit should he not earn an NHL roster spot. -
His qualifying offer is 7.5M not 8M. On a multi-year deal, year 1 doesn't have to start with 7.5M. The qualifying offer is to retain a player's negotiation rights. It's valid for about 2 weeks during which he can simply sign it and it will then stand as his contract for the upcoming season. He can also let it lapse - the team retain his rights but they have no choice but to negotiate a contract. There's that circa 2 week window where Boeser could elect to take his qualifying offer. Laine did after a pretty bad season. It's a risk and hurts his trade value as he could just sign it. He's also 2 years to UFA so sign his 7.5M q.o. this off-season, get the same a season later and then walk to free agency. Teams can by-pass the qualifying offer process by taking him to arbitration but that might hurt the relationship. Boeser can choose between a 1 year or 2 year deal (as he is 2 years to UFA) and the award cannot be less than 6.375M (85% of his last salary). Maximum in arbitration is 2 years - the party taken to arbitration gets to decide and it can only cover RFA years. A player 1 year to UFA can only get a 1 year award.

He lost a lot of development time with the season being cut short by the pandemic and then sitting on the taxi squad. -

On the team only Garland has a better career record than Pettersson in the shootout. -
That's the NHL investigation on whether he could face a suspension for possible Covid protocol violation - teams are waiting to know the results of that investigation before signing him to a contract as UFA. Front runner is believed to be Edmonton. That NHL investigation is independent from the SJS situation which will be ruled by a neutral arbitrator unless they settle earlier.

His modified-NTC limits trade options but not his injured status - players on IR or LTIR can be traded eg Eichel earlier this season. Injured players (whether IR or LTIR) can't be bought out or demoted to the minors though.

[Report] Canucks hire Rachel Doerrie in an analytics role
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
The analytics department is led by Aidan Fox. They were initially looking around to hire someone above him but Drance now thinks they could simply promote internally. Rutherford wants to grow the department and she's just one of more expected hires to come. -

The Miller thing was on a podcast. Her comments made the rounds so wanted to hear it for myself. Think it was this one but that episode looks to have been taken down. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Seravalli says there's a lot of smoke. Says ideally Rutherford wants to have a new GM in place but could still pull the trigger earlier if there's a deal he likes. -
Who will be the first player to be traded under the new management?
mll replied to Rabbit's topic in Canucks Talk
Seravalli's bet is on Miller. He thinks he could be traded before a GM is even in place if Rutherford gets a deal he likes. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
mll replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The Wild don't have the cap space to retain Fiala who will ask more than the 5M he is making this season. The buyouts for Parise/Suter increase by 8M next season to reach nearly 13M (and there are still 2 seasons after that at 15M). They also have wingers in the system who they hope can replace him.
