  1. There's really no chance that Nashville trades Jeannot - he's one of the players they are building around. They even protected him in expansion when they had only 3 forward spots. Not sure Nashville will be trading picks either. Poile announced that they were in a competitive rebuild this summer - he now calls it a transition to get younger. They traded Arvidsson for 2x 2nd round picks as part of that transition. He wants to build up the farm system and start giving more opportunity to their young players. Not sure Boeser has much trade value with a 7.5M qualifying offer. Regardless, don't really see Nashville being interested in him at that cost. Poile also once said that the most important skill in his mind is speed.
  2. Crouse isn't a buy low candidate - Arizona are in a full tear down and looking for draft picks. Zacha probably wouldn't be cheap either given his role. Nashville still thinks that Glass can be a good player and have sent him to the AHL to develop. They are playing someone like McCarron in the NHL to give him that time in the AHL. Don't see them ready to move him just yet. RD Philippe Myers could be a buy low candidate out of Nashville though. Rutherford thought Kessel was a distraction - don't see them re-uniting.
  3. NYI are looking to add mobility on D and Dobson is getting high praise from Trotz - so him being available feels extremely unlikely. Don't see many teams looking to trade for Boeser with a 7.5M qualifying offer. Just too much risk that he signs it and he's not worth that money.
  4. Probably too slow. Rutherford in his opening presser said he wanted them to play quicker and noted that they were not a fast team with a lot of fast skaters which is his preference.
  5. Armstrong revealed that 20% of their roster got affected by Covid with all displaying symptoms with some with significant weight loss. Berube confirmed that some key players were still recuperating. Armstrong also talked about how they had quite a few players who were very worried for their families and it made it hard for them to focus.
  6. The NHL apparently won't allow Tallon to work for any team. He was there in Chicago and was also investigated for racial and religious insults in Florida. The Florida claims couldn't be substantiated but the league doesn't disclose everything.
  7. Had him in Minnesota. Says he will always give you everything he's got. Admits that his everything is maybe not always what you hope but says you can never question his will.
  8. Boudreau believes moving Pettersson at wing has helped him. Says it gives him more room and a bit less responsibility in his own zone. Listed the good chances he generated that game.
  9. NYR traded Buchnevich for cap reasons although it created a hole up front but they saw a cap crunch coming. He signed for 5.8M and so far is at a point per game rate with St Louis. NYR ownership also complained that the team had skills for days but felt they lacked the necessary grit and physicality to win in the post-season. Gorton and Davidson were in part fired over that so have a hard time seeing Pettersson as a target for NYR.
  10. Both. Boudreau gives Tampa as example. He was on Sekeres&Price today and expanded on it. He wants the Ds to jump into the play, Myers to shoot more and OEL to be more like he was 4 years ago in Arizona. Says he has history with teams of the defence being very mobile, aggressive and offensively gifted a lot of them. Lists Green, Fowler in Anaheim and Spurgeon, Dumba, Suter and such in Minnesota. He wants to play that up tempo game and says Tampa is a perfect example of how that goes. Says it's not like he wants them to sacrifice their defensive game for their offensive game but believes they can do both and be more aggressive offensively.
  11. Boudreau was on Sekeres&Price. They summarised what they discussed - was a wall of text and added a few breaks but their words from the link to the apple podcast. Starts at the 15min mark. --- Vancouver Canucks head coach, Bruce Boudreau joined Matt and Blake for the first time. Says that any coach when they lose is not happy. No matter how well you play, you want to win as often as you can. Thought they were only ok in FLA despite the layoff. It’s pretty good to keep them to 21 shots but you still want to win. Talked about his apporach and how his mood affects the team. When they are winning, you have to push the team harder or they get complaicent. When you are losing you have to have more of a parental approach. Today was an all positive day because they are doing a lot of things right. Talked about going into Carolina, against a top team, they are in for their best game after CAR got spanked by CBJ. Talked about players that have suprised him. Mentioned Demko. Knew he was a good goalie but he was so good when he first got here. QH43 is a better player than he was from a distance. JT Miller is a really competetive, good hockey player. A lot of them came as advertised. Talked about wanting Tyler Myers to shoot more. Wants OEL to be the OEL of 4 years ago in ARI. Talked about some of his high-scoring d-men that he has had before that allows for a high tempo game. So far as not sacrificing the defensive game. Talked about moving Petey to the wing. Had some good passes, one to Horvat and another to Garland. Was in on 8 offensive chances yesterday so it sort of helped him. Gotta go through the bad to get to the good. When he starts scoring, hopefully from that LW position, he will start scoring that pace Canucks fans are accustomed to. Drives him crazy that people would start to write off this season with so many games left. You don’t need a 20 game win streak but if they get through this road trip with a couple wins they will be right there with everyone else. Talked about Jaro Halak and his utilization. Says he doesn’t care about his contract situation and that Jim hasn’t managed any of that. Talked about Ovi and how to defend him. Says that you have to take him for dinner and leave him there.
  12. Friedman on his podcast of today says somebody tipped him that the Canadian border services are doing an internal investigation about Kane crossing the border and on whether that was processed and handled appropriately. He contacted them but they were not going to comment on specific cases.
  13. That was a negative - part of the cost to move Johnson. Brisebois traded Callahan's 5.8M LTIR contract and took back Mike Condon's who he went on to bury in the minors for a residual cap hit of 1.325M (2.4M per). Condon never suited up for Tampa. It's even Tampa that gave up the higher draft pick in the trade a 5th while Ottawa sent back a 6th. Brisebois signed McElhinney to backup. Brisebois explains here why he didn't want an LTIR contract on the books. He says they save cap space by moving Callahan. He clearly states that it's always better to have cap space instead of having long term injury exemption space because the long term injury exemption space doesn’t accrue. He also talks of the problematic of the bonus overages and how it would handicap their cap space for the following season. Even Lamoriello moved out Boychuk's 6M LTIR contract to Buffalo for future considerations to get out of LTIR. Tampa was forced to take back the LTIR contracts for Nilsson and Gaborik from Ottawa as part of the trade to clear cap by moving Paquette and Coburn - that was also a negative. Vancouver is losing cap space because they are in LTIR. They also can't absorb Halak's bonus this season because they are in LTIR. They weren't able to maximise their LTIR relief and already lost 300K right off the bat - ie their active roster can never exceed 81.2M while teams not in LTIR can spend up to the full 81.5M. Also every day that they are under the cap they are forfeiting that cap space. If they weren't in LTIR they would be able to set it aside (bank it) for future use like paying the bonuses rather than them being automatically carried over into next season.
  14. Other way around. Teams don't want to operate in LTIR so they are the ones giving up assets to get rid of their LTIR contracts. LTIR costs cap space, creates bonus overages and limits roster flexibility.
