Who will be the first player to be traded under the new management?

The Sharks are terminating his contract with the backing of the league per Friedman. He tested positive on 21 December and was apparently symptomatic (not mentioned by Friedman but Sheng Peng when he landed on protocol). He went on to travel to Vancouver on 29 December - Sharks saying he wasn't given medical clearance. He was expected to report to Barracuda on 31 December but didn't report back till 6 January.

Arizona are in a full tear down rebuild as confirmed by Armstrong to LeBrun. They likely aren't going to help teams clear cap space without some kind of futures in return. There's the cost for Crouse + the cost to take cap back if Pearson is part of the deal. Motte is an upcoming UFA and could probably be moved further, but Pearson has an NTC for this season so would need to waive and a limited NTC that travels with the team for next season.

Credited to Foligno for his 100th NHL goal. -
Per Friedman the Sharks have support of the NHL. He was positive on 21 December and travelled to Vancouver on 29 December with the Sharks saying he didn’t have medical clearance to take that flight. They also say he was supposed to report to Barracuda on the 31st but only came back on the 6th.

[Rumour] John Klingberg requests trade

Per Marek he was looking for an 8 year deal at around 63M. -
From Friedman: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/evander-kane-expected-file-grievance-contract-termination/ In an unexpected bombshell, the San Jose Sharks placed Evander Kane on unconditional waivers on Saturday afternoon — with the purpose of terminating his contract. If Kane goes unclaimed (which will be known shortly after 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT on Sunday), the Sharks will be able to cancel the three-and-a-half years and about $24 million remaining on Kane’s deal. But that won’t be the end of the story. Kane’s agent, Dan Milstein, wouldn’t comment, and the NHLPA indicated it was too soon to say anything, but multiple sources indicated it is “absolutely expected” the player will file a grievance to prevent the termination. That leads to another question: If Kane does grieve, will he be able to play for another NHL team while that process plays through? There will be plenty of interest in him as an unrestricted free agent, but the answer to that question looms over any future employment. (...) Kane was suspended the first 21 games of this season for COVID protocol violations — the use of a fake vaccination card. Once eligible to return, he joined the team’s AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracudas, where he had eight points in five games. He tested positive for the coronavirus on Dec. 21. In a statement, the Sharks said Kane was terminated for “breach of his Standard Player Contract” and “violation of the AHL COVID-19 protocols.” According to several sources, there is a dispute over a flight Kane took while in the isolation period (including whether or not he had permission to do it) and his return date to the team. Barring some kind of settlement, the arbitrator would rule on these issues.

His divorce case is handled by the court in Santa Clara County - no reason for him to cross the border.

He hasn't played in Abbotsford. Was suspended to start the season and his 1st AHL game was only on 11 December against Abbotsford but in San Jose. They haven't travelled to Abbotsford since he made his debut. They would have come over by charter and if he had been tested positive wouldn't have been allowed to travel with the team. He was announced in Covid protocol on 23 December so might have been over the holidays.

[Rumour] John Klingberg requests trade

He's likely expecting more than that. He wanted an 8 year deal out of Dallas and they refused - that's why he's asking out. -
Sounds like it's something he did recently - they are saying that he broke the AHL's Covid protocol.
-
The Rangers bought DeAngelo out. Here SJS are voiding the contract.
-
If they allowed him to stay home there wouldn't have been this opening - they are claiming a breach of contract to terminate his deal.
-
-
There's no buyout possible - the window doesn't open up until after the playoffs. It's either a mutual termination or there was a significant breach in contract. SJS were never going to add a 1st when the buyout cap hit is close enough to a trade at 50% retained.

Other teams should be able to beat that offer. Chychrun is a top pairing D at an incredible cap hit for 4 playoff runs when other Ds are getting paid significantly more than his 4.6M. Even a team in transition like NJD could be interested with him being only 23. Arizona are in a complete tear down rebuild as confirmed by Armstrong to LeBrun - a 1st is most certainly part of the return. The ask is sky high - the equivalent of the Eichel return apparently. LeBrun says that Arizona aren’t set on trading Chychrun and will wait for teams to meet their ask. Gives the example of how multiple teams were interested in Kuemper and waited till they got what they wanted. Friedman doesn’t think Vancouver can do it btw. -
Why Does The Media And Many Fans Still Consider Our Defense Suspect?
mll replied to Rindiculous's topic in Canucks Talk
Vancouver wouldn't have those counting stats without Demko in net. There's a reason Rutherford calls him a franchise goalie. The tracking company CSA had him saving nearly 40 goals above expected this past calendar year - in 61 games that's the equivalent of 2 goals every 3 games or 0.66 better than expected per game. CSA looks at the full context of the play that leads to a shot - number of screens, passing plays etc. It gives an indication of how a goalie is performing based on the environment he is operating in. Even setting aside how strongly counting stats are influenced by goalie performance, a solid D-corps isn't just about their goals allowed. If a team is spending a lot of their time playing in their own end because they can't move the puck out that's hardly ideal. Their transition game, neutral zone play and how they allow the team to pressure offensively also matters. Do the Ds have the skills to make a clean break out pass, play a possession game or are they just dumping the puck. Are they efficient at preventing zone entries, can they hold the line when the team is pressuring offensively, can they make plays, are they turning the puck over when pressured, etc. -
