  1. Has just been called up and confirmed to play their next game.
  2. McIntyre was a free agent. He was just signed by the Wild and has to go through waivers to be assigned to the taxi squad.
  3. Couldn't get in the lineup under Boudreau - Rask failed his skating test.
  4. Colorado excels off the rush - best team at both generating and preventing goals (maybe not this season with them missing Makar and MacKinnon for stretches). Kelly highlighting here Colorado's excellence at generating and preventing chances off the rush back in 2020 As for Vancouver they have been one if not the worse team off the rush for a few seasons now and have primarily generated their offence off the cycle - top-5 in chances last season and even led the league in cycle goals the bubble season.
  5. The same month he was hired as GM - was hired early June and traded him at the draft a few weeks later. Apparently felt he was an issue in the room.
  6. They are shooting at an unsustainable high rate. Makar is at over 19%, Toews and Byram are over 14%. It's more noise and a nice benefit for this season but not something to hope to rely on consistently. There are nearly 200 Ds that have played at least 80 games since 2019/20. The only 2 Ds above 10% are Boqvist and Makar - dragged up by this season when he was at 7.7% last season. The 30th ranked D is already down to 6.7%. The median is 4.6%. It's the other parts of Makar's game that are elite and make him one of the very best and an integral part of Colorado's success. This comparison between Makar/Fox was done using Sportlogiq's tracking technology ahead of their 8 December game.
  7. Link to his latest interview. "We know it's there, he's done it before and he just has to continue working at it".
  8. Back in Nashville but not in Minnesota - himself admitted to never have felt comfortable in Nashville. Evason had him in Milwaukee and both talked of how he had some growing up to do back then. Evason actually talks of how he has grown in maturity and is a good teammate. Russo has never reported any such thing either and he would know.
  9. For Fiala. A hockey trade. Not giving up futures though. Miller would bridge the gap to Rossi and at 5.25M would still fit under their cap while Fiala is RFA and likely to get more than that.
  10. Rutherford's advice to Guerin was don't try and win a trade. Tells him that trades need to be fair otherwise he won't be making many. Guerin has made it pretty clear that he is not trading futures. They are in a rebuild mindset where themselves are looking to acquire more draft picks for the players they don't wish or can't retain for lack of cap space. They'll have 15M in buyout costs for another 2 seasons by the time Miller's contract is up. Just next season their buyouts increase by 8M to reach 13M. Guerin didn't try and trade Parise/Suter and instead just bought them out despite the massive impact on their cap. Their window is expected to really open up in 3 seasons once the bulk of their buyouts is off their books.
  11. They can't really afford him with the increase in those buyouts for the next coming 3 seasons. He is also a high risk / high reward player and can drive Evason crazy at times - just feels like he is the odd man out.
  12. They play with very different calibre of linemates. Boeser plays primarily with Miller who is a ppg player. Fiala plays with Gaudreau who at 28 only had ~100 NHL games before being signed by the Wild. Gaudreau was a marginal 4th liner / 13th F for Pittsburgh last season. In Minnesota he has pretty much been tied to Fiala and plays nearly 17 minutes a game in an offensive role - only has 10pts on the season. Fiala is so often the one that draws the short string in terms of linemates. The Wild are short a forward on the road and a D needs to play up front - obviously on Fiala's line. Fiala is completely snake bitten this season but generates offence at a significantly better pace than Boeser and can drive his own line.
  13. It forces them to start over. Boldy and Rossi are soon NHL ready. Someone drafted in 2022 is going to be further away which widens the age gap to Kaprizov/EriksonEk who are their key players. The Wild were also thrilled to draft Rossi.
  14. As they work on the roster to turn them into legit contenders. Demko, Hughes are ready to compete today and are key parts of the future. It's not like they can just drop to the bottom and sell off everyone - some contracts might not even be moveable. He has to also make sure that the key guys will want to stick around once their contracts are up and bottoming out doesn't really encourage loyalty. Horvat is UFA in a season and has already said he's not willing to go through a rebuild. After this season Hughes only has 5 years left and Demko 4. Boudreau is going to coach to win and Demko can steal games. The Canucks as currently constructed are a bubble team.
  15. In his introductory presser he mentioned that the Canucks are not a team with a lot of fast skaters which is his preference and that they need to play quicker. Pittsburgh had a lot of team speed but not all were fast skaters. Bonino wasn't fleet of foot but he was smart and played with fast wingers in Pittsburgh. He also mentioned that they were capped out and that any moves would have to be cap in for cap out. I could see him doing something similar to the Wild. Still try and compete but without giving up draft picks or prospects and in parallel building up the prospect pool. Adjust the roster through hockey trades if they can't move players for picks. I don't necessarily see Miller traded - it will depend on his ask.
  16. Re-building doesn't mean going young throughout the lineup and selling off everyone. Ever since Guerin got to Minnesota he has been acquiring more draft picks but he hasn't gone in full tear down. He has even extended the contracts of several veterans like Foligno, Spurgeon, Brodin, Hartman and even signed Talbot in free agency to give them a better chance to win. Tearing things down is really not part of the plan because having a winning culture is just as important. Guys like Foligno, Hartman really represent what they want Wild hockey to be about. They also have several core players ready to compete today. Their roster will simply continue to get better as they replace lesser players with higher end players in an already winning environment. They want to be perennial contenders and setting the standard has already started although their roster is still a work in construction. They are still looking to compete during their rebuild. They simply aren't looking to move futures and prospects to improve their team and are looking at the longer term picture. They are more likely to make a hockey trade where the player likely to be available are Fiala and maybe Greenway. Adding Miller would help them and bridge the gap to Rossi but the return wouldn't be what Rutherford is looking for as the Wild won't be giving up futures or key players.
  17. They were top of the West at the TDL in Boudreau's 1st season at over .700, only Washington had a better point percentage. Fletcher went all in giving up multiple draft picks to add Hanzal. It completely messed up chemistry and they were bottom-6 for the rest of the season. They went into the playoffs without ever having found any traction and were eliminated in round 1. Boudreau was just reminiscing about the idiocy of that trade on his podcast with Russo. Fletcher always tried to compete and gave up multiple draft picks - the Wild had a very depleted prospect pool after the Fletcher years but nothing to show for it. This time they sound well decided to build the team the right way. Some of those wins this season were based off sheer will where they are trailing and manage to tie the game to send it to OT. They lead the league in goals with the extra attacker. That's their work ethic and a never quit attitude but not an indication that they have a roster able to win playoffs rounds and go all the way. They have only 13 wins in regulation in 30 games and there's no 3v3 or shootouts in the post-season. The Wild really aren't true contenders yet despite what their record show.
  18. Trotz identified their depleted D-corps as the main reason of their struggles this season. Talked of how everything starts with the defence where they are the ones to break the puck out so when the D-corps is hit there's no real way to compensate. He also praised Dobson. Dobson was the reason Lamoriello gave for moving Toews so hard to imagine he would want to move him when Trotz identifies defence as their weakness and sounds pleased with Dobson's progress. Trotz also hinted at healthy scratching Palmieri, who makes 5M, when he comes off IR because they have others up front playing well.
  19. The Wild have already started their rebuild. No reason to start over again. They aren’t looking to go full tear down and have some players they fully intend to keep long term. As prospects continue to develop they will push out veterans and their team will continue to improve that way. Guerin talks of taking the time needed to build the right way.
  20. That’s why they are in a rebuild for the next coming 3 seasons. Their window will truly open up after that. Guerin decided on those buyouts while factoring in the time it will take to develop guys like Rossi, Boldy etc. He explains that they are their future and wants them down in Iowa for them to develop into difference makers. He doesn’t believe in rushing prospects and insists they have a plan.
