Doing Minni a Brock solid [Proposal]
mll replied to hammertime's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Guerin would be fired on the spot. The mandate is to build a perennial elite contender. The Wild are in a rebuild and aren’t going to bank everything on a one off. They want to rebuild the right way. Guerin again talked about it this week. Hartman has been great between Kaprizov and Zuccarello. That lineup doesn’t even make sense. Kaprizov only got going because he panicked that Evason would split him up from Zuccarello. These two have insane chemistry. EriksonEk is a checker. He’s always been at his best in that role. Was tried at C1 and was ineffective. His strength is playing shut down. Guerin also complained about players wanting to play in Minnesota for family reasons over hockey reasons. Doesn’t think ties to Minnesota should mean anything. -

It drops to 10% next season and 6% the season after that. Escrow was set in the CBA approved ahead of the bubble. The league tried to revise those numbers and the NHLPA categorically refused. It will simply take longer to pay out the escrow balance. The cap can only increase by 1M till the escrow balance is paid out. -
Wasn’t Boudreau’s choice to bring him in. Fenton fired Boudreau’s trusted right hand man that had followed him from Anaheim and replaced him with Evason. Fenton was previously GM of Nashville’s AHL team where Evason was head coach. All through his tenure in Minnesota Fenton tried to fire Boudreau to replace him with Evason but ownership refused to sign off. Boudreau knew it. It’s pretty admirable that the two were able to work well together and Evason sounded genuinely sorry that Boudreau lost his job. Guerin had no prior relationship with Evason and it’s because he didn’t do like Boudreau that he got the interim tag removed. Guerin grew frustrated that Boudreau kept on prioritizing veterans over younger players even when the kids were outplaying the vets. Vancouver doesn’t really have that veteran problematic.

Not likely. Players talk about how they have a great vibe going and how the room is now united. Wilson confirmed that players came to him to say they didn't want him back. He created divide in the room and it was difficult having to deal with him. He didn't follow team rules and pretty much did whatever he wanted which set up also a poor example for their younger players. Doesn't sound like they knew how to keep him in check although they had veterans like Burns, Couture etc.

Hockey Canada and the Edmonton Oilers were the ones running the tournament.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks | Dec. 29, 2021

Cam Fowler only played the 1st period. He's their top D and leads their team in ice time - was a pretty big loss for them. They dressed 7 Ds so still had 6 left. -

Montreal lost 4-5 in OT @ Tampa. Tampa tied the game with 20 seconds left. Their 4 goal scorers: - Vejdemo - 1st game of the season and 1st goal - Harvey-Pinard - 1st NHL game of his career + 1st goal - Kale Clague - 1st NHL goal ever - Savard - 1st NHL goal of the season They have 6 regulars on IR - Anderson, Armia, Dvorak, Edmundson, Perreault and Toffoli and 7 in Covid protocol including Jake Allen, Chiarot, Hoffman, Petry, Lehkonen This goal was also disallowed. -
Players in the AHL already went through waivers to be assigned there. Movements between the AHL and the taxi squad aren't subject to waivers because being on the taxi squad is akin to being in the minors. It's a demotion from the NHL roster to the taxi squad that is subject to waivers, like it is when a player is assigned to the minors. Teams can't use the taxi squad as a way to manage their cap, unlike last season. Without waivers teams would probably be trying to send their extras down to the taxi squad to bank cap space (if not in LTIR). The purpose of the taxi squad is really to palliate a covid situation where teams unexpectedly need extra players. Not every AHL team is just around the corner and there are road games. Testing results might also not come in in time to make recall arrangements by game time. There's no minimum this season - last season teams had to have at least 4 players on the taxi squad. If teams are missing players due to injuries /non-Covid related sickness and don't have enough cap space to recall a player, they still need to play a game short-handed.
-
The purpose of the taxi squad is to have players readily available in case a team has players entering Covid protocol - they want to minimise the risk of having games postponed or teams being forced to play short-handed due to players testing positive. Waivers apply to be assigned to the taxi squad, just like they did last season. From the protocol: NHL Clubs are permitted to assign a maximum of six (6) Players to their Taxi Squad. All such assignments will be subject to Waiver requirements as applicable. No individual Player may spend more than twenty (20) cumulative days on the “Taxi Squad” during the temporary formation period.

CBJ are in a rebuild. They are trying to get more picks and prospects. Can't imagine they'd be interested in Miller.

[Proposal] Wild - Canucks Miller moved
mll replied to Odjick the Warrior's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Pittsburgh were in a win now window - it has always been about winning with Crosby/Malkin. The Wild aren't in that situation. Their roster is still quite flawed despite their record. Guerin went ahead with those buyouts because he probably didn't see them truly contending before then. His mandate is to build a perennial elite contender. It's him that convinced ownership that they have to re-build the right way. Don't see him deviating from his plan and up to 15M in buyout cost is going to limit them anyway the next 3 seasons. He says those buyouts were decided 6 to 8 months before they were executed and that there's a plan. It wasn't a late minute decision. -

They need to clear 8M in cap space just to account for the increase in the buyouts for Parise/Suter. Rask is only 4M and he will also need to be replaced on the roster. Guerin doesn't believe in rushing prospects - there's no guarantee that either will make the team next season when they are still waiver free. Neither have had a game this year either despite injuries. Moving Dumba creates a hole in their D-corps and Addison still has a year of being waiver free.
