[Report] Canucks fire Travis Green, name Bruce Boudreau as head coach

Don't think that's been the case here - he misunderstood the situation and did his mea culpa for it. Miller even gave Drance a 1-on-1 interview - in fact several players have. -
[Rumour] Coyotes gauging market on Jakob Chychrun

That's not my read on NJD or Hamilton who seems to have fit in well - not as strong of a pairing as with Slavin, as expected, but himself still solid. They want to start coming out of their rebuild but they've also made it clear that their core is Hughes/Hischier/Blackwood. OEL is simply too old to fit that core and could regress just when their window truly opens up. Could see them interested in Chychrun though. OEL is 36 when his contract ends and also has a full NMC through the length of his contract per CapFriendly - don't see him going anywhere. -

NJD's core is even younger than Vancouver's. Can't imagine they would have interest in OEL when they are building around Jack Hughes who is only 20. Sharangovich fits their core. Their head of analytics also did quite a bit of work on ageing curves and has been critical of deals past a certain age. Can't see him approve and NJD takes input from everyone - not listening to the analytics department was part of the reason Shero got fired. -

That quote was taken out of context. Miller and Drance talked and Drance then apologised because he misunderstood the context of the quote. It was actually a relaxed moment where the team was having fun and were trying out a new drill. It wasn't a quote made out of frustration. -
Their dead cap could stay pretty much the same as this season's but allocated differently. Their cap space will have to come primarily from roster movements. Luongo (3.0) + buyouts (550K) + overage (650K) = 4.2M vs Buyouts (2.4M) + Halak (1.25M) + ? (Halak 250K + Podkolzin + Höglander) = min 3.65M with 550K to match last seasons' 4.2M.
-
The 650K are from last season on this season's books - ie there's some cap that has already been blocked but this season's carry over is going to be higher than that. It's likely going to be above 1.5M but stay below 2M. Podkolzin (850K) and Höglander (200K) probably won't reach their full targets. Halak alone is 1.25M in bonus overages and could get an additional 250K if his save percentage is above 0.905.

They already have a fair bit of cap tied up front. Lee 7M, Nelson 6M, Pageau/Palmieri/Nelson at 5M and Barzal is 7M on his bridge. Could see them more trying to make a hockey trade to change the make-up up front then creating a hole on D. They've also been rumoured to be looking for a puck moving D to replace Leddy per Staples.
-
They are so far back with only 21 points. Don't see them giving up their best D prospect for hope over building a team that can compete for the longer term.
-
Why would they even do that? NYI seem far away from making the post-season so they look more on their way to be sellers this TDL. In the off-season Miller will only have 1 year left to UFA and if they continue to struggle why would he consider extending with them. NYI's is struggling in part because their D-corps is too weak. Hard to see them bringing back Chara and Greene. If they move Dobson, they would be left with only 3 regular NHL Ds for next season - Pulock, Pelech and Mayfield who is also 1 year to UFA.

Tavares' departure coincided with NYI bringing in Trotz as coach. They completely changed playing styles going from an aggressive offensive team with poor defensive play to a more responsible structure under Trotz. Their progress came in part from being more reliable in their own zone - it gave bigger roles to bottom of the lineup players whose focus was on preventing goals vs trying to score to make up for their defensive deficiencies previously. Adding Trotz and changing systems has compensated for the Tavares departure. Can't know how Trotz with Tavares would have turned out but would still guess that they would have been better with him. Vancouver wouldn't be changing systems. Kane is a winger and wasn't driving a line by himself - he was playing primarily with Couture and otherwise Hertl as his Cs. Miller is the driver of his line - it's not Pearson or Boeser. 3 lines a threat to score vs 2 lines. It would shift responsibilities to other lines while also not creating the same matchup issues for opponents. By spending less time on the attack it also puts more focus back on defence as opponents are no longer forced to defend as much. Rutherford had the HBK line in Pittsburgh and was never quite able to recreate their impact once players left. Boudreau says he is excited to have Miller, Pettersson, Horvat as top-3 Cs where he sees it as an advantage over other teams. Miller is not that easily replaceable, as C and line driver, and the impact could go beyond just his own contribution, but affect the ones of the other lines and the defence as well. It changes the structure of the lines. Don't see them rushing in a decision about Miller if they think they can get him on a reasonable contract. They don't have any prospects pushing for a spot to replace what Miller brings. Hughes will have only 5 years left after this season and Demko 4. It's not like their window is way down the road.

Conditional picks upon re-signing are no longer allowed - was implemented the summer of the bubble as part of the CBA MOU.
-
Hamonic went on LTIR - they have over 2.8M in cap space for recalls per CapFriendly. The league was also going to make a recall exception for Carolina where they wouldn't have to play a game short-handed because it was Covid related - the game ended up being postponed. Still Vancouver would have likely also been able to argue that they are in the same situation as Carolina had Hamonic not gone on LTIR.
-
They are in a full tear down rebuild - everyone is available. Boeser is not going to interest them. He's even older than Chychrun and has even less years to UFA. They are looking for futures.

On their 31 Thoughts podcast. Marek talks of how Arizona is stripping everything down to the frame. Friedman believes there's quite a lot of interest but the ask is extremely hefty. Arizona is apparently really motivated to see who is serious and who isn't. Friedman lists Edmonton and wonders about Philadelphia, Boston, NYI, LAK and even Montreal. Thinks Ottawa could do it too. Wonders about Vancouver although he doesn't think it's as easy for them as other teams. -

Could see them trying to sign some PTOs for Abbotsford. With them in Henderson not sure they'll risk bringing someone up - they might prefer to have everyone just charter back together and go with no extra for a game.
