[PGT] Columbus Blue Jackets at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 14, 2021

Weber was far better than Subban in his own zone. Nashville understood that they would be weaker defensively with Subban over Weber but figured their offence would go up to more than make up for it. Not only did their offence go up but their defensive numbers improved. By spending so much more time on the attack they had to spend less time defending - ie less opportunities for their opponents to try and score. Boudreau is following that same approach which is what Button was saying Green should be doing. Boudreau himself says his philosophy is why spend time in your own zone. He wants to defend as high as possible - already at the opponent's blue line, if they can't then in neutral zone and only finally in his own zone. -

He also said that it wasn't working and that he should instead let their offensive players free because that's the strength of the roster. He criticised Green's strategy. -

Green and Boudreau don't have the same strategy. Boudreau wants to be on the attack all the time and defend as high as possible. Green was more conservative and was trying to play better defensively but it hurt their offence because he didn't allow them to be as aggressive and they couldn't sustain much o-zone pressure. Boudreau is playing to their strength while Green was trying to hide their weaknesses. -

Boudreau is actually doing what Button said Green should be doing. Don't try and protect the defence (it's a lost cause) but instead go on the attack because that's the strength of the roster and they have an elite goalie in Demko who can save the day. -

I also think it makes more sense to spread the age group so it's like a conveyor belt - older players get replaced by younger player. Helps to manage the cap and the window remains open. That's not what Arizona is doing though. Armstrong wants to tear everything down and accumulate draft picks as he explained to LeBrun. Given his plans, I doubt he'd have any kind of interest in Boeser. -

LeBrun talked to Armstrong who told him they are going for a scorched earth rebuild. He made it clear that they aren't interested in a re-load and have decided to go all in in the tear down route. They don't want to just make the playoffs but become a great team and he strongly believes that it has to be done through the draft. He talks of why it was so important to add to their amateur scouting department. They have a long road ahead of them and right now the focus is about drafting and development. Given their plans, just can't see them being interested in Boeser. -

Why would they care about replacing Kessel when Armstrong pretty much admits to LeBrun that they are deliberately tanking. They want to draft high and often. -

We don't have the same assessment of the situation. A D1 is one of the hardest piece to find. If Arizona is willing to give him up a 23 year old D1 it's probably because they don't think they'll be competitive any time soon. Boeser is older and 2 years to UFA with a 7.5M qualifying offer which he can just sign and then move on. Why spend that kind of cash when they seem to be having cash issues and why take a player that close to UFA. I just don't see why that would appeal to Arizona - they aren't going to be competing any time soon. -

I was going to post that too. It's a new development - Friedman even writes "but it now sounds". Wonder if they now realise that they are much further away and need multiple drafts to rebuild their team. He's only 23 (2016 draft), so you'd think they'll want draft picks or maybe high prospects much younger than him, if they now believe he will be too old to be part of their core. -

Must be the same video. Brackett was for Hughes too. -

Brackett wanted Hughes too - it was visible in the behind the scenes clip of the 2018 draft. Benning asks: Zadina or Hughes? Weisbrod: Hughes? and Brackett says: Hughes. The segment was published by the Canucks with subtitles. -

Except Drance has always said that Hughes is too brilliant and too smart to not bounce back. -
NJD is also trying to build a team - they have identified their core already and McLeod fits the group. McLeod might not produce much offence but they too need bottom-6 Cs. He's still young and developing and has been very solid on face-offs where they tend to struggle. Don't see why they would part with him. His game will normally continue to grow. He's already a lineup regular. NJD targeted Bahl in the Hall trade with Fitzgerald explaining that they had scouted him extensively and will nicely fit their core. Bahl is in his 2nd pro season and only 21 - needs some development time. Rathbone is also not on the NHL roster and was sent to the AHL so he could grow his game. I am sure that NJD are going to look at some prospects and decide they won't make the show but I don't see them removing players they believe can be part of the team they are trying to build. Moving McLeod creates a hole in their lineup. Youth for youth seems more when players need a change of scenery similar to the Juolevi or Gaudette trades.

It's minimum 10 days in quarantine if results remain positive over the next 2 days. -
They fit NJDs' core too. McLeod was 12th overall and fits their rebuild. Rathbone and McDonough are further away and not as highly ranked. It delays NJD taking a step forward vs simply keeping McLeod and Bahl. Doubt the 2nd entices them all that much. NJD are trying to get out of their rebuild - that trade sets them back. Targeting young players on rebuilding teams doesn't feel particularly logical. They went into a rebuild to acquire those young players. If they decide to move on at some point it's because they feel they are not likely to work out.

1 year deal at 1M that can simply be buried. vs 7M for another 3 seasons after this one. Wouldn't have a minor role either. Burns, Couture, Hertl, Karlsson couldn't keep him in check or accountable in SJS. Winning teams have a togetherness where they are playing for each other. Michael Jordan popularised the quote that individuals win games but teams win championships. Don't see Boudreau being interested given the issues he faced in Minnesota. Would also be surprised if Rutherford is interested. Guerin was mentored by Rutherford and felt he had to change the culture in Minnesota where they didn't have the togetherness that winning teams have.

They probably wouldn't travel to SJS. -

Media by far prefers the team winning. There's significantly more interest in the team when things go well. -

That was a joking moment. The photographer that took that picture explained the context of the picture. https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/behind-that-viral-photo-of-dustin-byuglien-flipping-off-evander-kane-223223052.html Kane was injured for the Islanders game. Hagan said he was riding an exercise bike as the Jets began filing through the dressing room hallway to the ice. He got off the bike and stood by rookie goalie Michael Hutchinson to fist-bump the players they hit the ice. Last in line? Byfuglien. Kane reached out. Buff “basically pretends that Kane wasn’t there,” said Hagan. He keeps walking, Kane gives him a playful shove and Byfuglien then gives him the finger. “He then nearly crushed me against a wall,” said Hagan of Byfuglien. “His jersey was about an inch from my lens.” Hagan said the entire sequence was “all in good spirits” and that there was nothing “malicious” behind Byfuglien’s actions. “Kane was supporting the guys headed to the ice. He had a good laugh. Hutchinson had a good laugh. And it was just Buff being Buff. He’s the type that jokes around with the players and the fans.”
