Not allowed per the CBA. Technically Myers would have to be traded in full to Arizona - can't trade parts of a contract away without sending the player over too. Only a year later could he be traded back in a retained salary transaction. They can trade back for him at full cap hit earlier but not with retention.

[Proposal] Strength on LHD (RHD compliments)
mll replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
All of media constantly insist that the only player deemed completed untouchable in Arizona is Chychrun. As Armstrong admitted they are tanking. They want to get as many draft picks and as quickly as possible to build that thing up quickly. Their most important adds have been in the amateur scouting department - notably added Tampa's number 2. Don't see them giving up draft picks or being all that interested in Boeser. He's 2 years to UFA with a 7.5M qualifying offer - ie why spend as much when they are tanking and he might not even stick around for their rebuild. Kessel is a TDL trade asset. He only has 1M in salary - so about 250K left to be paid at the TDL. Last season using a 3rd team to retain 25% of the cap hit cost only a 5th round pick - would be 1.7M at 75% retained. Arizona should be able to get a decent pick towards their rebuild. -
[PGT] Carolina Hurricanes at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 12, 2021

He has a big role on the ice and in the room in Vancouver. He already sounds like a favourite of Boudreau if you listen to his podcast with Russo. He might not be as much on the forefront on another team. He broke out in Vancouver and has been through the bubble and all the struggles. If things track in the right direction not sure he would want to leave after all they will have gone through together to reach that point. Gives a larger window to be on a team emerging as a contender than one who is already at their peak and might soon need to retool. -

In Minnesota after his hire in the summer he was asked about the PP with some players reluctant to get off at times under Yeo. He made it clear he wanted 2 equal units and called it selfish to stay on the ice for more than one minute on a powerplay. -

Ltir doesn't create cap space. It actually limits it. Vancouver is losing cap space because they have Ferland and don't have access to the full 81.5M for their active roster. -

When he talked about the restaurant Boudreau said they stopped as soon as he made the hush gesture. Unless there was another incidence. -
[Proposal] Miller to New Jersey for Severson
mll replied to tan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Don't see why NJD would do this. If they trade Severson would think they'd want a player that better fits the age group of the core they are building around - Hischier/Hughes/Blackwood. NJD are still coming out of their rebuild and trying to give the ice time to their young players. Don't think Miller will be someone Rutherford trades either. Boudreau on Russo's podcast is already speaking so highly about him. Didn't know he was that good and told Russo that he's not going anywhere - would think that Rutherford would consult him. -

There are also the performance bonuses that will get carried over into next season because Vancouver is in LTIR and can't bank cap space. There's 650K on the books for this season but it will at least double next season. 1.25M if Halak starts 10 games + 250K if his save percentage is above .905%. Podkolzin (850K) and Höglander (200K) will likely reach some of their targets. The cap can't go up by more than 1M as long as the escrow balance isn't paid off - Bettman thinks it will be settled at the end of 2023/24. -

Not quite his words. He meant freebie because they iced the puck with no one on them and then couldn't clear - was the Boeser goal. -

Boudreau explained that he is using Horvat as their shutdown line. He has seen a lot of Dickinson back in Minnesota where he was solid defensively as winger. He has explained in the past that he likes to have 2 interchangeable units and explains that he tries to go with the fresher unit (ie the one that didn't draw the penalty) or the unit that is going. There was only 1 powerplay that game and Pettersson drew the penalty so maybe why he went for the other unit to start. In Minnesota his units were often set by the top-6 lines and pairings (they ran 2 Ds). He didn't have to mix lines once the PP is over as every line was kept intact through the PP. I don't know if that's the reason here but Horvat-Pearson / Miller-Boeser are lines and on one unit and Podkolzin-Petttersson-Garland are a line and on another unit. -

The Wild are in a re-tool/rebuild so trading picks and prospects is highly unlikely when themselves are trying to acquire more picks and prospects for players they feel won't be part of their future. They even traded Kunin who was picked 15th overall in 2016 - ie one year after Boeser so they could add picks. There's a reason they were willing to buyout Parise/Suter and saddle themselves with 13M to 15M in dead cap for the next 3 seasons. Not sure Guerin expected them to feature so well in the standings but it's not like he can get rid of those buyout cap hits. He didn't even bother to look for a trade partner before buying them out. They are going to need prospects like Boldy when they are going to operate 13M to 15M below the salary cap for the next 3 seasons. Guerin btw also says he couldn't care less where players are from. He actually complained about players wanting to come to Minnesota for personal reasons over hockey reasons. Fans favourites have been from all over the world. Also don't see Rutherford trading top roster players for futures. The Canucks have a core that is ready to compete now. Boudreau insists that he came to Vancouver to win.

There's not much benefit for SJS if they have to take Pearson back. A buyout is 3.66M next season and 2.66M the season after. Adding Pearson and retaining 50% is 6.75M for the next 2 seasons when the buyout is significantly lower. Buying him out gives them more cap flexibility in the short term than having to take a contract back.

Pittsburgh has the best PK in the league at 92.4% - Blueger has a role for that. On pt 3 put a weaker defensive player than Blueger vs Miller and he likely scores even more. Moving him creates a significant hole in their lineup. Teams can't just remove a matchup/shutdown C and think goals against aren't going to go up. Games are won on goal differential - limiting goals against has its importance in building a coherent and competitive team.
-
Pearson is playing with Miller-Boeser under Boudreau.
-
Hamonic can't play Blueger's role for Pittsburgh and can't play Marino's either. Miller is valuable but Pittsburgh has Crosby and will get Malkin back. What he brings is not as important as what Blueger and Marino bring for their team. Miller is more of a luxury while Marino is essential at moving the puck from the back end and so is Blueger with his defensive role that allows others to focus on offence. It's how the pieces all fit together that makes a team strong not just adding good players.
-
Marino is their 2nd most used D after Letang and their top PK D. Blueger has averaged 16:30 and is also their top PKer. The mandate in Pittsburgh is to maximise the years of Crosby/Malkin. Marino and Blueger are more useful to Pittsburgh than the pieces going the other way + Malkin is going to return at some point.

Nashville is in a rebuild - a competitive rebuild as Poile calls it. Don't see them interested in Myers when they already have Ekholm/Josi as veterans and want their younger Ds to take on larger roles.
