  1. Hockey team. Guerin was shocked by the culture in Minnesota when he took over. He felt they lacked the togetherness that winning teams have and set on to change their culture. Rutherford likely has the same concept that to win it's about being more than just a bunch of individuals playing hockey together. They have to come together and be like a family that is going to battle and sacrifice for each other.
  2. Ron Francis is an established GM above Botterill. That's not the structure in Buffalo where Kevyn Adams has very little experience. Adams is in place because the Pegulas trust him but Karmanos is associate GM not assistant GM as well as GM of Rochester. Karmanos even brought in Sam Ventura from Pittsburgh.
  3. Several of his teammates don't want him back. Doesn't respect the team rules, shows up late at practice etc. That's no way to build a team that will battle for each other.
  4. Friedman says they had a fallout but wasn't sure where things are at now.
  5. Ferland doesn't help Vancouver. He limits their cap space because they can't bank what they aren't using. It's not an advantage to have an LTIR contract on the books. They already lost 290K because they couldn't maximise the relief to start the season. And every day they are forfeiting the cap space that they aren't using as it can't be banked when in LTIR. They have 600K in cap space per CapFriendly. That daily space is lost while if they didn't have Ferland, their cap space would be 290K higher (ie the relief they've lost) and they would have been able to bank the daily unused 890K for future use.
  6. Holtby 4.3M cap hit vs 2M for (Halak + Holtby's buyout). Buying Holtby out gave them an additional 2.3M in cap space for this season. Next season they then have 1.9M for Holtby + 1.25M or 1.5M for Halak's bonuses. Benning created short term cap space for this season but the Luongo penalty coming off the books will cover part of those deferrals next season.
  7. Doubt he's pouting. More likely feeling like he let his team down by missing his penalty shot. His confidence is down and probably feels very responsible for the poor start of the team. Boudreau believes there's a lot of untapped potential in Pettersson and that his confidence is simply low. They've spoken already several times and he believes they are both on the same page with everything. Doubt Rutherford would make a trade without talking to his good friend Boudreau. Buffalo is trying to change their culture. Cozens wants to be in Buffalo. The Sabres have so much trust to repair with their fanbase. Trading Cozens just doesn't make sense for them with what they are trying to do. They've made very strong promises that they are going to change the way they do business and their culture because what they have was broken.
  8. Rutherford fired Karmanos in Pittsburgh. Karmanos is now associate GM in Buffalo.
  9. They can also by-pass the qualifying offer by taking him to team elected arbitration without qualifying him. It gives them more time to try and agree on a deal without having the risk of him simply signing his q.o. They'd need to explain the situation to his side to not damage the relationship. If they can't get a deal done they would need to go through the arbitration process. Boeser can elect a 1 or 2 year offer. The award cannot be less than 85% of his last salary - ie 6.375M.
  10. This also happened that game with 1:26 left to play. Buffalo ended up losing 2-1.
  11. That's only for new contracts signed after the CBA MOU was approved. Boeser is grandfathered and doesn't fall under that new rule - his qualifying offer will be 7.5M.
  12. Karmanos is associate GM of the Sabres and GM of Rochester - was named just this April. Would be surprised if they allow him to speak to Vancouver. He was also fired by Rutherford in Pittsburgh.
  13. So Sharks end up with a 6.75M cap hit for the next 2 seasons + a 3rd at 3.5M. They look better off to just buy him out.
  14. He was pretty much a regular for Boudreau in Minnesota - played 77 out of 90 possible games. He also just revealed on Russo's podcast that it wasn't his decision to scratch Hunt the last game he coached for the Wild.
  15. Kane at 50% retained is already 3.5M + Pearson at 3.25M is more than the buyout.
  16. The segment with Boudreau starts at around the 9min mark and goes on for over 50 minutes.
  17. Trenin vs Chara part 2. Trenin might have been bloodied but he scored the tying goal and Nashville went on to win 4-3.
