Rank the Targets (Discussion/Proposals)
mll replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
They are using the same rules as for Vegas. Hamilton if he is not re-signed before then will be a UFA. There's no guarantee that he doesn't walk and tests free agency. Markstrom is unlikely to take a 1 year deal. He wants to be the starter - would think he would actually prefer Demko being traded rather than have him breathing down his neck. -

Doesn't mean that Carolina will move one of their best Ds on a bargain of a contract. They'll have no trouble protecting Pesce and Slavin. Hamilton is also a UFA for expansion draft. Gardiner hasn't worked out in Carolina and are probably already trying to trade him. -

NJD are looking for more Ds like him. Defence is their weakness. They seem to want to use draft picks to get players they want. Fitzgerald talked about that and gave the example of trading picks to get Palmieri/Johansson. Dumba is their trade chip to get a C1 - they have no room for more wingers and they have no Cs to play them with. With the Canucks being bottom-5 in the league defensively - he's also not a D they should target. Dumba's defensive gaffes can be covered in Minnesota - they would be exposed in Vancouver. -
Chayka terminates contract. Coyotes name Sullivan interim GM
mll replied to skategal's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Per Friedman - Chayka did not get fired. Arizona wanted to retain him but he got another opportunity elsewhere. -
In that context he means guys have to come to camp ready to go and can't be using camp to get into shape.

That's unlikely to happen either. NJD considers defence their weakness. NJD is also building around Hughes, Hischier and Blackwood. They talk of the importance of character when building their culture. They say quite a few teams have a lot of good players but don't excel because they don't always have the players with the right character. They say they want players with drive and who can self-motivate themselves. It doesn't sound like Virtanen would be a fit there.

Earlier this week Batchelor and Dayal seemed to imply that he didn't come ready to play. Dayal says you can't skate yourself into shape. MacEwen has looked good and has chemistry with Roussel-Gaudette. For them it looked like Virtanen could be on the outside and had to play catchup. Batchelor earlier this week said he wouldn't be surprised if Virtanen does not make the game 1 lineup with Dayal concurring the next day. Dayal was softer in his stance as he does believe that Green would like the speed/skillset but compared to others he was not sharp. He was arguing that you can't consider this like a September camp where players have more time to figure things out. Harman Dayal earlier this week: https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/sportsnets-starting-lineup/harman-dayal-no-playing-way-shape/ Green yesterday: "I'm not going to be able to wait for players to be ready to play... That's just the way it is." Batchelor later that day at the 3:20 mark thinks Green was pointing mostly at Virtanen with that quote: https://www.sportsnet.ca/650/reach-deep/brendan-batchelor-trust-strong-coaching-key-heading-playoffs/

Probably. Dan Rosen on NHL.com: [...] The NHL has gotten goal songs, goal horns, in-arena music compilations and motivational videos from each of the 24 teams participating. The League also received specially produced videos from fans that will replicate some of the chants that go on in teams' home arenas.

The Devils probably don't view Virtanen as equal to Severson. NJD is giving an increased role to their analytics department - Shero was let go in part because he wasn't integrating them in the decision process. Virtanen's numbers are rather poor per Dayal who is the Canucks' analytics writer for the Athletic.

8 skaters - Fs or Ds but not goalies. https://www.nhl.com/news/seattle-kraken-2021-nhl-expansion-draft-rules-same-as-vegas-golden-knights-followed/c-302586918 Current NHL teams can protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goalie, under the following conditions.

NYI is in cap trouble. Dobson has looked very good in camp earning a lot of praise from coach Trotz. Very doubtful they'd want to move an ELC player when they need to clear cap space. Virtanen has arbitration rights and teams can't walk away if the award is under a certain amount. Teams could be forced to clear cap space late in the off-season. It's not ideal in a flat cap world. Virtanen's defensive numbers are not particularly good according to Dayal and Drance. Trotz is very much into advanced stats. If their analysis is accurate it seems rather unlikely that NYI would have interest.

Players will be quarantined to their hotel rooms the first 4 days in the hub per Russo. They will only be allowed out of their hotels room for meals, practices and games. Per protocol of phase 4 players are not allowed to go in each other's rooms for the length of their stay in the bubble. Each team will have an own hospitality room where players can hang out.
