Why not just clear Loui’s contract by attaching a 1st like the Leafs did?
mll replied to EP40.'s topic in Canucks Talk
Doubt it. They won't have any trouble reaching the floor. Adding Eriksson just adds unnecessary spending and increases Melnyk's losses. Owners are set to lose a lot of money next season with no fans in the stands. Melnyk was also on record saying he does not want to spend more than the strict minimum until 2021-22. He doesn't need Eriksson to spend to the minimum and will have him another year when they are looking to compete. In a more recent interview he said he wanted to compete this coming season. Ferraro today was saying no team is going to take Eriksson with a 1st round pick. Teams simply don't have the cap space to take on such a contract. He also has that extra year when the cap isn't expected to move. -
[Signing] Wild sign Kirill Kaprizov
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Kaprisov is a legit Calder candidate for next season. He would have normally signed a max ELC - 925K base + 2.85M in performance bonus. By signing this year his performance bonus is limited to 925K because of the variability rule - 850K in schedule A and only 75K in schedule B. If he wins the Calder he gets 75K vs 2M had his contract started next season only (or had the league not changed the rules for this season). -
He was the Canucks' best puck battler this season according to Sportlogiq's tracking technology. Only Canuck to make the top-16 in the division. They had a bracket up over the break for fans to guess on and took the 16 best of each division but at least 1 per team. Wild had 4 representatives with Koivu edging out Eastern conference Bergeron for the title.

[Signing] NYI sign Sorokin to ELC & 1 year 2M extension
mll replied to mll's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
CBJ's beat writer Aaron Portzline talked to a few goaltending coaches to try and understand what to expect from Merzlikins as he adjust to the league coming from the Swiss NLA. They highlighted the difference between Europe and North America in shooting philosophy. In Europe it's considered limit selfish to take a shot that has only a very limited chance to become a goal. In North America there is more the tendency to shoot at every opportunity - the get shots on net and good things will happen adage. In Europe the preference is to create your luck rather than hope for good things to happen. Merzlikins allowed several goals where he was just not expecting the shot. It might require the same adjustment and could explain also in part why Sorokin faced less shots. -

If he really wants to stay around Boston they could also just wait till he reaches free agency.

Ferland was skating with the team as part of phase 2. He's been back for at least a week and has likely been tested several times.

By league policy teams cannot disclose any details. Players insist on confidentiality and their privacy be respected. Every injury / illness is going to be classified as "unfit to play" but is not necessarily covid related. Benning had a zoom call with media after practice. As for Pastrnak - it might be due to quarantine requirements.

Only for new contracts and doesn't apply to Boeser.

[Report] Wild name Dean Evason as head coach
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Exactly how Fenton planned it... Evason head coach Zucker traded Fiala the game breaker He brought Evason over from Milwaukee when he got named GM. He apparently tried several times to fire Boudreau but owner Leipold was having none of it. He tried to trade Zucker a couple of times. He described Fiala as electric and a game breaker - everyone scoffed at the description and mocked the trade including Boudreau. Now they are eating crow. Fenton's scouting description has been spot on to end the season. -
[Signing] Wild sign Kirill Kaprizov
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
As the tweet says Kaprisov Countdown = 0. They've been waiting so long to get him in the fold. With next season starting so late he could have extended another year in the KHL and joined mid-season only. They want him on the opening night roster for next season and not have to wait again. They traded Zucker to create that spot for him. Can't play but allows him to practice and be around the team and get to know his new teammates. -
Wild are back at practice. Everyone accounted for other than Pateryn who is out with an upper body injury. He won't travel to the bubble of phase 4. Same lines as when the season was suspended (per McLellan) Greenway Staal Fiala Parise ErikssonEk Kunin Foligno Galchenyuk Zuccarello Donato Koivu Hartman Suter Spurgeon Brodin Dumba Soucy Hunt Rask as extra. Others being Iowa/junior players.

He was part of phase 2. Drance confirmed it. Also heard Dhaliwal saying that his son is in Portland when talking of him opting out.

Seems like Buffalo could find a better deal. They lose 3.875M in cap space and add some 8.5M with Eriksson/Stecher who aren't difference makers. That's a 4.5M difference or so that they could use to add a better player even if they keep Miller. They also already have Okposo. Bergevin is allowed to spend to the cap. Don't see him wanting to add a declining veteran. They also have players to extend in a year and need the added cap space. Alzner has apparently been very good with their prospects in Laval. He's a cheaper cap hit to bury and his buyout cap hit is also lower. Don't see the expansion requirements as sufficient of an issue. A Rask buyout has been mentioned by Russo for a while now - only a 1.3M cap hit which is manageable. They have no use for Eriksson and also need the cap space with key players needing contracts in a year. It feels rather unlikely that Vancouver will be able to come up with more cap space in an Eriksson trade unless they add significant assets. Even then I am not sure any team would have interest because of that extra year.

Not defined. Will depend on the severity of the infraction. Players have to follow protocol (wearing masks, self-distancing etc) at all times. Breaking the bubble without valid justification would likely fall in the more severe category. From the protocol of phase 4: PENALTIES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE As indicated above, individuals leaving the Phase 4 Secure Zone without permission may be subject to consequences up to and including the removal from the Phase 4, or in other cases, strict quarantines of up to 10 - 14 days as well as enhanced testing and monitoring upon return. In addition, established violations of the rules set forth in this Protocol will result in For Clubs, significant penalties, potentially including fines and/or loss of draft choices. For third party vendors, potential contract termination. For NHL staff, potential dismissal from the Phase 4 Secure Zone.

[Signing] Montreal signs Alexander Romanov to ELC
mll replied to qwijibo's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Romanov will not be allowed to play. The league initially did not want to allow new ELC signings for this season. They consider rosters set and find unfair that teams would be allowed to add them although it's a CBA negotiated rule. Makar, Boeser, Hughes and many others were allowed to sign once their season was over and play immediately. Last season Gavrikov signed once his KHL season was over and stepped right into the playoffs for CBJ. There was a real risk that several players would stay an additional year in the KHL because of that rule change and next season delayed. It's a one-off for this season only. Podkolzin for example will be allowed to sign once his KHL season is over and play. -
Multiple Montreal Canadiens players test positive

Teams can be fined and even lose draft picks if protocol is not followed. The player can be excluded from the bubble. -

Basu: "The National Hockey League declined comment, citing its policy regarding COVID-19 disclosure. The Canadiens also declined to comment." Training camp starts tomorrow and media can be present - they'll notice if there's anyone unexpectedly missing on the ice.
