Multiple Montreal Canadiens players test positive
mll replied to Dungass's topic in General Hockey Discussion
There's no bubble until phase 4. Ever since the season was suspended every player were in phase 1 of the NHL's return to play protocol. Players were asked to self-isolate until they could open up training facilities for phase 2. Many players didn't follow the recommended protocol. From phase 2 protocol: As such, Players are strongly recommended to continue to exercise “distancing” behavior, practicing the same social/physical distancing measures as observed during Phase 1 of the League’s “pause” in the 2019/20 Season. Specifically: Players and Club personnel shall continue to stay at home as much as possible and practicable and must avoid unnecessary interactions with non-family members. Players shall not physically spend social time together in close contact. As noted above, Players participating in Phase 2 are not permitted to work out or skate at any public facility or other location, except as may be permitted by the Club, and may not organize any Player skates or group skates outside of the small group sessions organized by the Club. -
He would be in the same situation as Boeser. Gaudette this year and Hughes next year are in that same situation too. Canucks are not at risk of losing them to an offer sheet and they can't file for arbitration. That normally gives the team a bit more leverage as all the player can really do is sit out.

Yes. He told his KHL team that he was going to the NHL and was confirmed by their president. The team thanked both him and Kaprisov and wished them luck. The league then changed the rules on new ELC signing where they were not going to allow them to sign for this season. So he was then considering staying an additional year in the KHL because of that change instead of sitting out for that long. He can now sign in that 53-hour window and join NYI for phase 3 and 4 but won't be allowed to play.

He could be part of the black aces but will not be allowed to play in a game. He will count towards the 31 players they are allowed to bring in the bubble. Canucks might not want to do it though. It burns a year of his ELC and gets him a year earlier to his 2nd contract. There's no signing bonus or salary payment - it's just to burn a year. He won't have arbitration rights or won't be able to sign an offer sheet once his ELC is up though. They initially did not want them to sign unlike past years were Makar, Boeser, McAvoy etc all signed and got into games immediately. It's a one-off for this season only. That rule was troublesome for KHL players in particular as they have the option to play an additional year at home. The KHL is starting on time and they can elect to stay there an additional year and delay coming over. NYI is counting on Sorokin next season. If he plays in the KHL they will lose a year of development and have to find another goalie to second Varlamov. Montreal is counting on Weber to mentor Romanov - losing a year of development with Weber getting older is not ideal. Guerin moved Zucker to create a top-6 spot for Kaprisov.

There's a 53-hour window that opens tomorrow where teams are allowed to get new ELC players under contract for this season. There won't be a signing bonus and no salary payment. It burns a year of their ELC and gets them in the fold. They will be allowed to participate in phase 3 and 4 and be part of the bubble but won't be allowed to get into games. It's a one-off for this season. Next season new ELC signings will be allowed to play like they have in the past - Makar, Boeser, Hughes etc. The Canucks have to also want to sign him during that window. They might not want to burn a year of his ELC as he can't play this season. It brings him to his 2nd contract a year earlier.

Colorado is not giving up Girard. Colorado has scoring and don't really need Boeser. Girard is one of the very best skating Ds. He was 2nd to only Josi last season in skating the puck out of the D-zone with possession. Sakic was only willing to move Duchene if they could get a hand on Girard. He was the most important asset of the trade per Sakic. They had no way of knowing that the Ottawa pick would end up being that high. Ottawa was expected to compete by trading for Duchene.

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Some alternative explanations here: https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/this-seasons-best-free-agent-might-end-up-being-vancouvers-judd-brackett https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ed-willes-bracketts-power-play-for-autonomy-costs-canucks-star-scout-his-job Incidentally the new scout Troy Ward was coach of the Abbotsford Heat when Weisbrod was overseeing them as AGM of the Flames. For whatever reason the relationship was no longer functioning for both sides. The Canucks seem confident they will do just fine without him. The Wild are thrilled to have hired him. Guerin said that it didn't happen over night and that they did their homework. There were rumours of tensions earlier this year so teams were probably aware that Brackett could be available. The Wild are highly unlikely to hire anyone in a key position without doing a very thorough review of character and credentials given what happened with Fenton. He wasn't fired for his moves as GM. He didn't fit their culture where they didn't like the way he collaborated (or rather didn't) with others. Brackett talks of how the draft is a collaborative effort. -
Domi also has a service dog that can detect his blood sugar levels and warn him. When the team is on the road the Montreal training staff are on the same hotel floor as him in case there is an emergency. He tests his blood up to 15 times per day. Kakko also has type I diabetes and celiac disease. Kunin is type I diabetic and is determined to play - he has been participating in phase 2.

This is the wording from the CBA MOU. They don't cover a player changing his mind. They only protect him from being disciplined or penalised by his team by electing out. Any Player, however, may individually choose not to participate in Phases 3 and 4 without discipline or penalty, in which event he shall notify his Club in writing (with a copy to NHL CR and the NHLPA pursuant to Exhibit 3 of the CBA) of his decision by no earlier than the effective date of this agreement and no later than 5:00 p.m.

Training camp is at most 30 skaters + an unlimited number of goalies. Teams can only bring 31 players in the bubble. Would think that Domi is on Montreal's training camp roster as part of the 30 skaters. Domi during the break said he wanted to play. He falls under this clause though where he could be forced out:

His agent excluded the idea of playing in Europe. His life is in North America. Drance thinks the Canucks will do all their possible to trade him even at 50% retained or they will buy him out.

Another Boeser Deal(Discussion)

in Montreal. He earned a 5 year 4.6M contract in Montreal with a limited NTC. Was a top-4 D for Washington.

Wouldn't know if he went back to Switzerland for the pandemic but he lives in Portland in the off-season.

Player salaries are paid over the regular season and not the post-season. They are in the same situation as players on teams who have missed the playoffs. There's a bonus pool in the post-season. It's been doubled this season to 32M to be distributed to the play-off teams according to a key decided by the NHLPA. Players opting out won't get a share of that bonus pool.

The Wild are looking for a C1 not another winger. Guerin calls their D-corps elite. He's not looking to break them up unless he can get the C1 they desperately need. Ehlers also looks to be a better fit than Boeser for Minnesota. They don't have someone to set Boeser up and want to play with more pace. They are full on the wings too. Russo: "... but as much as Guerin would love not to trade Brodin or Dumba, if either player could get the Wild closer to a No. 1 center or bring back a No. 2 center and other assets, he'd seriously consider it." Friedman on Guerin: "I don't get the sense he's inclined to do anything with either (Dumba or Brodin), unless it involves an elite centre, or maybe a No. 2 centre, providing that includes something extra like a couple of first-rounders or something along those lines." Boudreau lost his job because they didn't like his style of play. The Wild played at a slower pace and were risk averse under Boudreau. Evason wants them to be an attacking team playing at a sustained pace. Canucks have been the worse team at creating offence off the rush this season according to Sportlogiq's tracking technology - 30 teams use them. By mid-January Ehlers exited the d-zone at the highest rate than any player in the league and ranked 2nd in zone entries with possession by ice time according to that technology. He's elite trough the neutral zone and fits what Evason would be looking for.
