That was scary. Perlini has a deep cut along his nose. -
[REPORT] - Wild threaten to trade more players

I like the deal. Not just because of the return but also because it's a much needed rebuilding move, while also opening up a top-6 spot for Kaprisov. -
[REPORT] - Wild threaten to trade more players

They would have been paid regardless of where they signed - they were coveted free agents. They wanted to return home to be closer to family. Both their fathers passed away a couple of years after they returned home. They talked about how they could never regret that decision because their fathers would have never had the opportunity to come to as many games had they signed elsewhere. -

Dreger on insider trading just said that Guerin's ask for Dumba or Brodin is a C1. If it's a C2 there would need to be an add. -
[REPORT] - Wild threaten to trade more players

He again made it very clear today that he's not looking to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. He gave several interviews before this presser where he talked of how it's such a good group of guys but that if he has the opportunity to improve the team he will make a move. At one point in today's presser he was asked whether he talked to the team about continuing to play hard and not give up on the season. That's when he gave that answer. It's about compete. It was the same thing in Vancouver during those early years under Benning. The Sedins, WD wanted to make sure that guys continued to play hard despite likely not making the playoffs. -
[REPORT] - Wild threaten to trade more players

The Wild don't have playmaking Cs - Boeser's production would drop. It's somewhat wasting Dumba's trade value to bring in a scoring winger when they have no one to set him up. In a few years once they find playmaking Cs but otherwise it doesn't make much sense with how their roster is constructed. They bring in a top goal scorer and can't benefit fully from his ability. Boeser is a luxury while playmaking Cs are a desperate need. GMs around the league are telling Russo that a Dumba trade is unlikely. Guerin is not going to get the return that will motivate him enough to trade Dumba. -

One of only 3 teams that made the playoffs 6 years in a row before last season. But as owner Leipold says good but not good enough. They built around the wrong core under Fletcher and are starting over. -

Their window is closed. Their future is going to be around guys like Kaprisov, Fiala, Boldy and whoever they draft now. That's why it was important to get another 1st to start that rebuild. They have no C1 or C2 coming any time soon. How do you want them to win a Cup. They can only hope that their young players continue to progress - they will only win once they are the ones driving the boat and not their slowing down veterans. In that interview Guerin says it was about the return that motivated the trade. Having a 2nd 1st in this deep draft. -

Wild's owner is not interested in just making the playoffs. He wants to win a Cup. Guerin knows very well that this team is not good enough to win Cup. They don't even have playmaking Cs. The Wild have made the playoffs 6 times in a row without going further than the 2nd round. Owner Leipold was fed up with that and fired Fletcher making the comment that the team is good but not good enough. Fenton was tasked to shake up the core because they realised that the core they earmarked was not going to bring them a Cup - that's why Niederreiter, Coyle, Granlund and now Zucker are all gone. Guerin's role is to build a legit Cup contending team - not just a team that makes the playoffs. The roster isn't there yet but their young players have to continue to progress to show that they can be part of that Cup contending team. That's why compete matters. Making the playoffs has to be the goal but if they miss and competed hard so be it - the roster is not good enough to win it all. -

That narrative just doesn't align with what players say about Guerin. They have become an extremely tight team and players talk of how he is very honest with them. It's really all the opposite of what you write - all year media has been reporting the closeness and how Guerin has really unified the team after some rough months under Fenton. It was an innocent quote about compete and not just giving up. -

That would be irresponsible. They are recapture contracts - like the one of Luongo. In case of a trade they would face significant penalties in case of an early retirement with no possibility to influence the decision. -

In that same interview he said he has no intention of making a trade just for the sake of making a trade. He was simply asked if he spoke to the team to make sure they don't just give up on their season. He expects them to continue to play hard. Fwiw Wild owner Leipold doesn't want to make the playoffs for the sake of making the playoffs. He wants to win a Cup and Guerin has carte blanche to build a legit contending team. -

Saturday against Nashville. He was icing his knee between periods and after the game - Tippett initially talked of a bruise above his knee. -
Not yet. They think they can still get in but ownership is not interested in just making the playoffs and Guerin has carte blanche to make all the moves he feels are necessary to build a legit Cup contending team. Not sure Zucker would have brought back that high of a return in the off-season. It was a foregone conclusion that Zucker's time in Minnesota was not going to last past this season. Delaying the inevitable was somewhat unfair to him and his family - it probably weighed on him and he hasn't been playing all that well recently. After visiting Kaprisov in early December Guerin told media that he would have to make room on the wings for Kaprisov. Fiala is turning into an untouchable player. Parise is not going anywhere and Zuccarello is unmovable with his NMC/too long contract. By elimination it left Zucker for a spot in the top-6. Guerin sees Galchenyuk as a winger but he's a UFA and with their crowded wings unlikely to be extended. Rutherford tried to acquire Zucker last summer but Kessel wouldn't waive his NMC for Minnesota. Addison was just ranked by Wheeler as Penguins' top prospect. A 1st was always going to happen - several teams interested in Zucker. Calgary is believed to have tried again but they are apparently on his no-trade list. The Wild will miss his speed but there was just no room on the wings going forward. They have enough unmovable veterans and need spots for their next young players. Zucker won't carry a line but should do well alongside Crosby or Malkin. The Wild have no playmaking Cs so pure goal scorers are going to have trouble putting big numbers on the Wild until they fix their top-6 C issue.

Russo said last week that Guerin doesn't plan on moving Foligno - believes he might even be in the discussion to be their next captain. Koivu is unlikely to be back. Owner Leipold was fed up of "being good but not good enough" - his expression. The Wild would make the playoffs but not do much once in. He tasked Fenton to shake up their core - Niederreiter/Coyle have been mostly underwhelming in the playoffs in Minnesota. The team was caught in no man's land and had to do something. Foligno is making an impact every day - tremendous in the room and on the ice in his role. He's a leader for them.
-
Their best and most consistent line this season has been the Bonino line - their 3rd line. Nashville can't seem to battle through adversity - Hynes talks of mental fortitude. They've won some games but still look off - improving though. The only player that is a real threat is Josi and he plays over 27 minutes per game under Hynes. He's 1 ppg and leads their team in scoring with 16 points more than the next player.
-
Watson is expected to draw back in for Nashville after being healthy scratched 3 games - he's going to have to bring physicality if he wants to stay in the lineup. Leads their team in hits and is not afraid to fight.

Looks like Arizona will be getting Kuemper and OEL back shortly. Kuemper had a 0.929 sv% and 2.17 gaa and was 15-8-2 when he got injured mid-December. -
2022 Olympics - NHL players a possibility?

Not big enough of a market. Completely different scale for China. Teams like Boston, Toronto have been marketing themselves there for a while - the Leafs have more viewers in China than in Canada. -

He looks to have been injured on this play but finished the game and even scored a goal.
