  1. Ken Holland says he has only picked 2x in the top-10 in Detroit. He says if someone calls and makes an incredible offer they might accept to move back a bit but otherwise they are picking at 8th. He's not giving up the pick. He talks of how important drafting is to accelerate the process. It's from his conference of yesterday. It's on the Oilers youtube channel.
  2. Marleau could remain a Leaf. It's not a given that Toronto matches a Marner offer sheet.
  3. Don't think mutual termination is allowed if he plans to stay in the NHL. He would have earned an average of 9M for a cap hit of 6M. It would be too easy to agree at signing date to part ways before the contract is up. It's just another way to artificially reduce the cap hit.
  4. Most of it will. Only 1.075M can be buried in the minors so anything above will count against the cap.
  5. The Wild have too many LWs - that's why Zucker is available. They don't want one in return. Fenton confirmed that he is looking for a scoring right shot - a 30 goal scorer like Zucker and that's not Virtanen. They also have too many Fs so they wouldn't want 2 in return. Quite a few teams are apparently interested in Miller - highest bidder. Gardiner is looking for a 50M contract minimum per Dreger - that would be some 7M or more over 7 years. Ferland got his goals playing in the top-6 in Carolina. Ferland is not a penalty killer. He had 1min39 total on the PK all season - that's an average of 1 second per game. He apparently wants a similar contract to Wilson but his play dropped after another back/neck injury. Not sure he'll get that much but he's probably looking for more than 4 years.
  6. Soderberg had 49 pts last season. No reason to demote him to C4. Green doesn't like Ds on their off-side. I don't know about Bednar but there's no spot on the right side either with Timmins believed to be ready. This was their announced lineup for game 7 - they went with 7Ds and 11Fs. It's the 2nd line that they want to improve. Timmins would replace Barrie at RD. Landeskog MacKinnon Rantanen Wilson Jost Kerfoot Nieto Soderberg Compher Bourque Brassard Girard Makar Zadorov Barrie Cole Johnson Nemeth
  7. Lamoriello talked of how good Dobson has been. He is ready to give him every opportunity to make the team next season.
  8. They already have Soderberg as C3. Zadorov is a LD like Hutton. They also have Cole on LD signed at 4.25M for another 2 years as well as Girard.
  9. New GM and Fenton comes from Nashville where it's all about the puck moving ability of the Ds. He talks about how their team is going to be so much better because Dumba helps them move the puck out.
  10. Sakic wants a hockey trade but I don't think Holland is interested in making that kind of move right now. He admits not knowing his roster very well. He talks of how he only has 3 top-6 Fs and sees one of them on the wing. I just don't see him making that kind of move when he doesn't know the team and who is coming up through the system. The coach is also new. Barrie might prefer to sign with a contender than a team that is still a big question mark as Holland cleans things up. It doesn't even really make sense for Colorado to trade him. They have cap space and he fits really well with their team. Johnson is slowing down and Barrie is only 27. Timmins might not even be a player. Can they really that easily replace him. They are picking 4th this draft and there are several Cs available.
  11. Unless they move a LD they have no use for Hutton. Barrie is available because their right side is getting crowded with Timmins hopefully able to play next season. Zadorov Johnson Girard Makar Cole Timmins They are looking for a top-6 F in return.
  12. There are plenty of teams calling and many believe that he will be moved at the draft in Vancouver. Zucker would certainly prefer for things to work out in Minnesota. His wife and kids will not follow him because his wife shares custody of her 1st daughter. That's some pretty good motivation to do well if he is ultimately not traded. It sounds like Fenton's outlook has slightly changed from earlier this year. At the TDL they were talking about how they were going to be a playoff team and compete now. His most recent interview last week seems to be more prudent - he talks of how their young players need to take the next step in their development.
  13. Holland wants to build a contender for the long term. They are not 1 player away. In Detroit he was also forced to hand out unreasonable contracts because they had no one coming. Can't see him putting himself in that situation. Sakic in May said he was going to talk to Barrie about an extension - for him to be now available suggest that they don't agree on the numbers. Holland needs players that want to be in Edmonton and not end up overpaying them to retain them. He also needs more players coming up through the system. If they want Barrie they can always try next year in free agency rather than give up an asset.
  14. Fenton says that Zucker understands it's a business - he spoke to both him and his agent. He also says that it's incorrect to presume that he absolutely wants to move him. The Wild have too many left wingers. They only have 1 right shot in their top-9. Fenton confirmed he is looking for a scoring right-shot either by trade or free agency. Zucker is really their only trade chip. The other Fs were just added and are still young - Fiala, Donato, Greenway, Kunin are still developing and part of their future. Parise has a NMC and a recapture contract. Staal and Koivu are slowing down. Rask has no trade value.
  15. Trading for futures could work for Minnesota if they can get what they want in free agency. Officially free agency discussions only opens on Sunday though. Fenton says he's looking for a scoring right shot (re why they tried for Kessel) either by trade or free agency. They are apparently interested in Pavelski. Their other target is Lee - who is a left shot LW and wouldn't solve their problems but he is a proven scorer. For the Canucks Barrie is a one year rental. The trade has to happen after pick 9. Apparently a lot of interest in Zucker. Fenton also says he doesn't see the need to move up - he feels that at 12 he can get the same kind of player that is available at 4 or 5. So moving up 2 spots doesn't hold much value for him.
  16. AVS already have Soderberg in that role. They are missing a C2. Sakic talks of how they are missing scoring past their top-line. He hopes some of their young players can take the next step but the 2nd line is where they have work to do. They also need a backup goalie.
  17. Because Minnesota is not at all interested in moving Dumba. Fenton and Leopold talk of how he is such a difference maker for their team and is only going to get better. Minnesota has too many Fs for next season and might not even have a bottom pairing after their top-4 Ds. They are willing to move Zucker because they have an excess of LW and are missing right wingers. They also only have 1 right shot in their top-9.
  18. Nashville is not interested in futures or prospects who are still struggling with consistency. They already have their own prospects coming. Poile believes that Fiala could be better than Granlund but he is not yet there and that's why he traded him for the more proven Granlund. Fiala was drafted in 2014. Goldobin is not their type of player and Virtanen is redundant. Tanev is not their kind of D. In Nashville they defend by keeping the puck in the offensive zone - they demand Ds who are able to cycle the puck and generate offence. That's not Tanev. He's also a UFA in 1 year. They don't need Sutter when they already have Bonino, Sissons and Jarnkrok. They have an excess of defensive players and need more scoring after their 1st line. If Subban gets moved it's for an equally impactful player that can play top-6 and not a quantity deal.
  19. Sakic says his primary focus is to add scoring - they didn't have enough behind their top line.
  20. Colorado is looking for a top-6 F to complement their top line. They don't want more bottom-6 F.
  21. Will Barrie want to extend in Edmonton and do they have the cap space. Holland talks of how they only have 3 top-6 Fs - RNH, Draisaitl and McDavid. He says either RNH or Draisaitl will play C2 and the other will be on wing. They are apparently looking to move a D to create room for Ds coming up through their system.
  22. Sakic talks of how the Avalanche are still rebuilding. They want the team to take the next step but are not quite in full win now mode. They have too many players that still need to grow - their defence is going to be Timmins, Makar and Girard. Timmins hasn't even played a NHL game yet and Makar just signed.
  23. They are willing to move Barrie because it's getting crowded on the right side with Makar, Johnson and Timmins. Timmins is stil a question mark so they could keep Barrie another year but they are willing to move him if he brings back a top-6 F which they are missing.
  24. LeBrun does say that Colorado are willing to listen on Barrie. They are looking for a top-6 F. Sakic a month ago said he was going to talk to Barrie about an extension - maybe he didn't like the numbers. They do have Makar and Johnson on the right side and they hope for Timmins to play this coming season.
