Detroit has cap space and Yzerman preaches patience. They've never had trouble dealing with their LTIR contracts when they were caught at the cap in the past. There's a way to artificially increase the cap by using LTIR. Datsyuk was a retirement contract.

[Rumour] Jesse Puljujarvi requests trade
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Holland sees him in their top-6 - he talks of him as a core player. Draisaitl or RNH - one of them will play wing and the other will be C2. For now Tippett sees Draisaitl on McDavid's wing and RNH as C2. -

He will move Puljujarvi but it might be for a player in the East which he is more familiar with. -
[Rumour] Jesse Puljujarvi requests trade

Canucks are probably not the only team interested. Holland comes from the East and admitted that he doesn't know his roster very well - he just hasn't seen them play all that much. He probably doesn't know available Vancouver players any better. This trade will be one of the 1st moves he makes as a GM. Would he really trade a still young high drafted player for someone he hasn't really watched all that much. -
[Rumour] Canucks Shopping Tanev

He probably has an idea of what type of contract it would take and whether there is some legit interest - agents/GMs certainly discuss interest without naming the player. Barry suggested as such by saying that Vancouver would be in the mix for Myers and Gardiner but there's no guarantee before free agency opens up. -

[Buyout] Ducks buy out Corey Perry

The Ducks wanted the roster spot to play their prospects - they didn't want a vet coming back. They are rebuilding. They want to get younger/faster and play their prospects. -
[Rumour] Canucks Shopping Tanev

Likely getting a D back by trade if it happens at the draft. The UFA interview period starts on the 23rd - the draft will be over by then. Teams don't usually allow other teams to talk to their upcoming UFAs before that date. -

[Rumour] Alexander Edler to hit the free agency market
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They didn't think Patrick was ready to play C2 and see him in a less demanding role at C3. They were targeting a point producing C2 to create a legit scoring line with JvR and Voracek. Their 1st line being Giroux-Couturier-Konecny. Sutter and Gaudette don't fit what they were looking for. Tanev's injury history probably scares teams. Canucks probably also don't want to part with Tanev given the uncertainty around the Ds. There's been talk that they see him playing with Hughes. -
They only have to move contracts because they have no cap space. The guys they are willing to move have trade value. There's no reason for them to give up their better players.

[Rumour] Alexander Edler to hit the free agency market

Flyers were looking for a C2 and proven top-4 RD. They already filed those needs. There's not much reason for Gostisbehere to be available anymore. Provorov Niskanen Sanheim Braun Gostisbehere Ph.Myers -
Fletcher talked of how Gostisbehere is going to fit great in Vigneault's system. He was probably rumoured on the block to get that C2 and proven top-4 RD but they got them by trade and just signed Hayes. He's likely no longer available.

Not for Minnesota. They have one of the best top-4 Ds and have no intent of breaking it up. They have no replacement coming in the short term. They also don't have playmaking Cs so Boeser would not be producing at the same rate on their team. This trade just weakens them defensively but also offensively. Dumba in particular helps their offence.

[Rumour] Canucks inquired about Sabres defenceman
mll replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Shero: “You’ve won the lottery. Who goes out and sells their lottery ticket after they’ve won it?” They need a top-end playmaking C. They want to retain Taylor Hall and a lot will depend what they do in the off-season with him a free agent in one year. They already have Blackwood as their future goalie. Tanev is a 1-year rental and not a point producing D which they are looking for. The 10th overall is not going to be ready before a few years dixit Benning. The 2nd is even further away. -
Posted before the trade was announced. They now have enough cap space to sign Meier. DeBoer talks of how he is such an important part of their team and brings so much more than goal scoring. They are not big name hunting - they already have them on their roster. The UFAs they would bring in would be on league minimum contracts to fill out the bottom of their roster.

Escrow, where to find what they actually got back
mll replied to VancouverIteinSanDiego's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Francois Gagnon of RDS Sports explained some time ago why the NHL wants to stay in those markets. It's about sponsorship revenue. They are based on the penetration rate on the global US market. Phoenix is one of the largest markets in the US and it keeps on growing. It's more lucrative for the NHL to stay in those markets (FLA, CAR, ARI) despite the empty seats, because of the sponsorship and other parallel revenues they get by covering key markets in the US. -

Flyers are ready to contend now while the Canucks are still rebuilding. There's still a lot of uncertainty and work to be done on the roster. Not sure he would be interested in extending here vs a team that has the pieces already in place. They had a bad season but Vigneault/Fletcher believe they can be contenders now.
